  1. what kind of game? on Ask Slashdot: Best Adventure Game To Start With? · · Score: 1

Well, it all depends on what kind of game you really want to play, IMHO diablo doesn't fall into the 'adventure' category but more in the reign of RPG (which is something completely different).. You want adventure games? then play the old sierra/lucasarts games (or visit sites like Scummvm.org where you can find a lot more info on these kind of point and click adventures).. You want 'diablo' kind of games (which IMHO also means World of Warcraft), there are so many mmo's out there.. and honestly? nobody can tell you what's the best 'adventure' game to start with, because it all depends on YOUR preference of gaming..

Ofcourse I'd rather have them opensource the internal VB7 which never was published and later replaced with VB.NET (vb7 is said to have had real OO and better WINAPI support (for stuff like window hooking etc))..

Personally I still like VB6 way more than VB.NET because I still don't see the real advantage of .NET other than YET ANOTHER FRAMEWORK... And let's not forget, a lot of developers still haven't got a clue that with .NET it's sooo easy to just rip their original sources using a program like Reflector (there are ways around it, but that would nullify the use of .NET)..

And with a second/third/whatever monitor I don't need to 'tab' between groups of specifically positioned and sized windows, (which I always tend to 'miss'tab anyway due to my haste) Hee, but if virtual desktops works better for you than extra monitors, good for you, saves you a ton of money and electricity, me, I'd rather spend the extra money..

You have to factor in the current age of the CELL and price, you cannot get a current PC for ultrafast calculations for the same price as you can get a PS3.. If you purely want to run linux as an 'office' OS then you should stick with a regular PC, but if you want to use it as a 'supercomputer' for scientific stuff you should use the PS3..

Since you are obviously knowledgeable with all three systems, when you work with them, what major thing is missing from Ogre3D? What major thing do you think Unreal Engine 3 and CryEngine include that cannot easily be done with Ogre3D? Feel free to be subjective, if you need to be.

Good tools, no matter how sophisticated and feature rich an engine is, without good tools it's completely useless.. The Unreal Engine 3 has already been 'battle'tested on a lot of different platforms, CryEngine is getting there, and both engines are complete game-engines, and both have great tools to make your workflow faster and easier, I looooove the ingame realtime (seeing it directly on the PC,xbox360,PS3) sandbox editor of the cryengine.. That's the problem with Ogre3D it's not a complete game-engine, it still requires a lot of extra components, which you have to connect yourself, and then you have to create tools yourself to get the content in there.. So in short, you still have to create a complete game-engine yourself, which ofcourse is nice but with all the battletested options it's better to use that time on better gameplay/content than having to spend all that time on writing the basics..

What game do you find compelling that uses 3D on mobile, and that its design depends on 3D and could not be done with 2D?

Have you actually seen the latest games for the latest smartphones/tablets? Yes I'm a 2D fan myself, I really like 2D platform games and adventure games and don't think 3D adds anything to it, but when I have to create a new game the customers expect 3D these days, so it's very nice if you have an engine that works on all platforms and you don't have to change your workflow constantly.
