Did you hit reply on the wrong post? I suppose that's just a blanket reply to the entire group but you just happen to hit that one.
Too many of you are trying to escape reality by fleeing into a game where you think everyone is on an even playing field.
In some, the playing field actually is even, or at least closer to even than others. And sometimes it even stays that way.
Get a crack pipe or some drugs, no different when it comes to trying to escape reality.
When you smoke crack it's gone. No matter how much you play a game, it's still there for the entire month at the same price. So from a budget standpoint it's actually a lot different. Although with features like TFA points out, I suppose budget has worked it's way back in as something that is no longer a constant.
A nation that no longer sees a difference between fantasy and reality...
I don't believe that's the case at all. It's knowing the difference between fantasy and reality and realizing which side you'd rather be on.
Console games all play on machines with roughly the same processing power.
And by roughly the same, you must be comparing the Xbox360 and the PS3. The Wii is obviously not on the same level as several games which have been ported to PS3/XB360 are completely missing from the Wii. Maybe that's just based on the target market, but I would guess some companies would tri-port if it were possible without too much re-work. Although some games like Force Unleashed managed to make it to all 3, I hear it looks like garbage on the Wii port.
Hmm, I must have been teleported to some alternate reality where IE actually has more features than Firefox. The way I see it, even the barebones FF install has more than standard IE. One glance at about:config would confirm that.
With Spore? I don't think it will. The game is not really a timeless classic that people are going to keep coming back to. I'd say 3 (or 5) installs are probably rarely going to be entirely used up. If the game was what we were told it was going to be 2 years ago then yea, maybe that number would be too small.
I really liked how I could beat a level of Starcraft, or Age of Empires, etc, and not worry about not being strong enough for the next level because I didn't beat the previous levels efficiently enough.
I doubt this is ever a real problem in Warcraft 3 / TFT. Not once did I ever feel the need to replay a level simply so my hero could get more powerful. Unless you intentionally avoid using them they get plenty powerful enough even through casual use. If you actually got stuck as a result of this then I would question what tactics (if any) you had outside of hero use.
You could turn the ads off if you wanted, but that would hurt the artist, so you wouldn't.
Well... I guess there's going to be at least one person who wouldn't turn them off. I don't think the ad revenue from your single machine is going to be enough.
Your examples are completely wrong. It's not about a tool that can't do the task. It's about a much more serious tool that performs far better.
A real example would be something like a Pistol and an RPG. Sure, the pistol (Vista) is perfectly capable of killing things. But the RPG (Server 2008) is far more capable. It's not that the tool is wrong in any sense, and you can obviously use the smaller tool and do far less with it.
I was expecting to see the 4870 as well. That was a bit of a shock. Unfortunately there are actually people who are not as knowledgeable who will think that more RAM on the video card immediately equates to better performance.
Whenever I tell someone I got a new video card the first question out of their mouth is usually "how much ram does it have?" as if that's all that matters. There is still a lot of people out there who don't bother thinking about all the other variables and just focus on that one statistic because it's one that is usually included in the title of the card.
Great, now I just need the announcement that God of War 3 will be ported to Xbox360. Seriously, are there any good exclusive titles left on the PS3? MGS4 I guess, but most of the top titles on the PS3 are availiable on Xbox360 as well.
Getting data onto and off the board will still be a challenge - you're limited by PCI Express transfers.
When has the PCI-E bus ever been the bottleneck? I don't think that any current graphics cards manage to completely saturate PCI-E. Maybe if it's being used for applications other than graphics.
Good point. My case would be valid if we were talking about a PC game install, but I wasn't thinking in terms of console requirements.
I suppose you could argue that the game could actually be installed if the user had the large Xbox360 hard drive (120gb). However I think that would be an excessive requirement for a single game.
I don't think there's any argument for goodbye being a waste either. What are you going to do, just sit there with the receiver on your ear and timeout instead of knowing when to hang up?
That's odd, I was running Crysis on a very similar setup (FX-62 and 8800 Ultra) on high settings with almost no problems. The game did lockup one time on me, in the no-gravity area. I went through it with the most recent nVidia beta drivers and Crysis patch so maybe some of the problems had been addressed. Overall I thought the game looked really good, but was disappointed by being cut short in terms of storyline.
Actually, this is "Comcastic" since they are doing it, however it's not the definition they would like assigned to the word based on their advertisements.
No. I just think Nintendo have done far more to make fun interesting games than Microsoft or Sony have.
And rightly so. Microsoft and Sony are not known for having great 1st party titles and Nintendo is. On the other hand, take a look at the 3rd party titles, and you'll find there actually are good games in that basket for MS and Sony (including some cross platform). So Nintendo provides you with the hardware AND the titles and MS/Sony are just looking to license others to develop on their hardware.
What I would be worried about is if Nintendo will be able to keep producing innovating and top tier titles, because it really doesn't seem like anyone else is. Granted, there were a flurry of titles partly due to the excitement over a new controller concept, but I think that is fading away now. How many times can Metroid, Zelda, and Smash Bros be rehashed?
I'm referring to how the low level local roads are built. In 2k or 3k, dragging a large residential zone made exactly that, residential only. Try making something standard like a 6 * 10 block of residential in SC4 and it starts filling in roads, at least on mine it does. If there is a way to turn that stupid option off I'd like to know.
I thought SimCity 3k was also about as good. Granted not many concepts there could be claimed as "original" since 2k had many of them. But it did take much of what was good about 2k while still progressing the concept. I think they dropped those huge skyscraper city in a box buildings, but by the time you had those the game was basically played out.
Then comes along SC4, which I never managed to get into at all. First of all you can't compete with your neighbors since, wow, my neighbors are also actually my other cities. That whole cityscape thing made no sense to me at all. They also (foolishly IMO) decided that the micromanagement of building all the little streets was too difficult so that became all automatic when you build a big enough chunk of zone. Any serious hardcore SimCity player had mastered so many forms of layout that they could rapidly zone and interconnect areas, and if you were really good you could map out the mass-transit on the first pass. That aspect of the game getting screwed up (automated) badly is what really turned me away from it.
[blockquote]I'm wary about EVE online going to DX10[/blockquote]
Hmm, guess you haven't been reading much about what CCP is up to. Not only are they going to continue to support their DX9 graphics engine but they are working on releasing a Mac OS-X port AND a Linux port. Proprietary is a complete non-issue if they make good on those statements.

You might be right about Vanilla Quake. I'd guess there are some mods that used hit areas prior to Q4.

A new laptop built by my company overheats and the video card dies.
The laptop battery then explodes, trapping and burning coworkers in several nearby cubicles.

Dual Layer Blu-Ray : 50GB
DVD-9 : 8.5GB
50GB / 8.5GB = 5.88 DVD-9's
And that's assuming that game actually is Dual Layer in the first place. More likely it's only single layer therefore...
Single Layer Blu-Ray : 25GB25GB / 8.5GB = 2.94 DVD-9's
So assuming everything being equivalent between the two, codecs and all, it would fit on 3 DVD-9's anyway.

ABIT Motherboard
Hitachi Hard drives
Although I'll admit I have had some issues with the newer ABIT stuff that has caused some doubt in that area. The old ABIT was 100% rock-solid for me.
