The common computer user doesn't complain about vista. The common/.er does for sure. Keep in mind there is still a large amount of computer users out there who don't know what a operating system is and would rather not know. You're right though...it might take a while. Windows 7 will also take a while.

By the time it's available everyone will have switch to a Linux based OS. Welcome to the community windows users. You'll find the dark side a lot more friendly than Microsoft makes it seem.
Squyres says the money will mean job cuts in the staff of about 300 scientists that operate the rovers and analyze the science findings. Those staff reductions likely will mean that they have to suspend science operations for one of the rovers, and Spirit is the likely candidate because it is currently riding out the Martian winter in a parked position.
What I want to know is how 300 scientists manage to take turns operating because one time me and my brother tried to share a video game and it didn't end well.
Electricity conduction through graphene is about 100 times greater than that of silicon and could offer many improvements to things like computer chips and biochemical sensors.
So, when do I get my 360 GHz sixteen core processor?
* Glib and GTK+ - version 2.10 or higher of both is known to work
* Pango - version 1.16 or higher is known to work
* libxml2 - version 2.6.30 or higher is known to work
* Ming - version 0.4.0.beta5 or higher is known to work
There is nothing in the GPL or any open source license I know of that says you get access to the hardware. The GPL says nothing about the hardware. If they weren't strictly following the GPL they can get sued. If they didn't provide a written offer to provide the source code they are in violation. I didn't read about any violations in the article. Keep in mind that just because the system uses GPL binaries doesn't mean they can't run proprietary stuff on the system. You can run proprietary code on your Linux box at home can't you?
I suggest taking a class. I took a Intro to Unix course at a community college a while back and two weeks were learning regular expressions. VI isn't used by many people new to unix, but has powerful regex search and replace features. Grep is a must if you are a power user. I've learned perl which bases a lot of features around regex. If you're interested in examples from my teachers website. for pearl: http://voyager.deanza.edu/~perry/cis331.html
"atmospheric turbulence can cause some of the quantum states to easily decohere, thus limiting their likely communication application to satellite-to-satellite transmissions."
Perhaps I just found a new use for my vacuum cleaner.
I never underestimate how creative scientists can be. I'm sure we will find some terrestrial uses.
This gives me an idea for an april fools joke. Now all I'll have to do is sneak over to my buddies house and browse the web and wait for the FBI to show up.
Intel has expensive really fast multi core processors. AMD 64-bit processing is better. Depending on the type of processing you're doing that could mean a lot. We all know what a debacle Intels integrated graphics were in the past. I'm not sure if they should be using that as a marketing point. Since AMD acquired ATI I would assume AMDs integrated graphics would be far superior.
NVIDIAs stock price hasn't been doing so good in the last couple months. Could this mean a return of integrated graphics? I'd bet my money on AMD who already owns ones of the big players.
You can use busybox on the same hardware with proprietary software without getting sued or having to pay royalties. It's the same as having proprietary software running on a Linux box even though Linux kernel is GPLed.
Follow a few simple rules. The main ones are don't link to busybox(or any other GPLed software) and you must offer the source of busybox to people you distribute that binary to.
Busybox is an executable. Your program may be an executable. Simply because they exist on the same filesystem doesn't make your software GPL'ed. It's a 'mere aggregation'. I've a programmer who viewed the GPL as a threat to the point he wouldn't write Linux software. After I explained a few things to him he started using it as a tool.
People who don't read the GPL before using it gives the GPL a bad name.
Keep in mind youtube uses flash. Flash is not open source. It is built for x86 only under linux. TiVo uses linux. I would assume that they would take advantage of open source linux browser like firefox if they decided to do that. They could use something like nspluginwrapper to run flash non-natively. I'm not sure tivo would want to support that. They'll probably just write their own stuff based off the API, patent a few things and make it proprietary.
If apples not going to put flash on their iPhone, I don't see tivo putting flash on their box.
When I first learned how to write a server I learned how to split off threads for each client. Trust me...If you have a degree in computer science you know how to do this. Many OS can schedule threads on each processor utilizing them all. The only people who are nervous are those guys with legacy software who didn't have the foresight to program their code using well known techniques.
You must pay for the cost of designing and support. If you can just sell chips without designing them sure it's cheap. The engineering man hours are expensive. Whats the incentive to designing a chip when you can't make money off of it. This kind of behavior will cripple technology as we know it. Sooner or later I foresee fabs moving back to the US for this reason. Not a bad thing for US jobs.
Please consider the draw backs of on-demand. Blu-ray will always be able to provide you with a higher bitrate and subsequently a high quality picture when compared to on-demand. After working with video compression technologies closely for many years, I've never been impressed with what cable, broadcast, or satellite companies consider "high-quality". Most people don't realize how bad their MP3s sound until you let them listen to the real thing. Most people don't realize how bad their picture quality is until you point out the compression artifacts.
I wouldn't buy a truck unless I was going to haul things. I wouldn't buy a sedan if I was going off-roading. Buy a computer for what you need it for. If all I'm going to use the laptop for is e-mail then it's worth it. I wouldn't try running vista on it. I have a dell with a turion. I dual boot linux and vista and I prefer Linux. Vista has a lot of requirements that are not necessary for just sending e-mail or typing a word document.
If he really is the culprit I give him props for being resourceful. Since all the switches are computerized nowadays I'd figure that a lot of todays phreaking is done with computers which really makes it more like hacking. I assume computers are a little easier to use with sight. The sad thing is that if this type of talent is used for good the possibilities are endless. What he did was wrong and should be punished if he infact did it.
It's simply very unlikely for all people within a nation to have something wrong with then, so I agree with you. I wouldn't give certain inmates in prison access to the internet. I'd call that protection, but I think I'm going off on a tangent. It would have to be decided on an individual basis weather a particular person couldn't handle that responsibility. I don't think that it could be good for an entire country to be banned from access to knowledge.

I've seen better graphics in games I've played over a decade ago.

It in fact depends on that library.

We like games just fine. We just prefer them to be GPL'ed. That way we can 'redistribute' them to our friends without feeling bad about breaking laws.
All kidding aside, I'd pay for a game that ran on Ubuntu even if it wasn't free. I think it might help generate a market trend away from windows.
I might have to go back to vista when starcraft 2 comes out. I'm buying it for nostalgic reasons. Maybe I'll try getting it to run under wine.
If you think our government is bad about privacy of our citizens you should see what they do about foreigners who post on /.

So if Canada, Europe, China, Venezuela and Brazil all jumped off a cliff you would too.

The only advantage On-demand has is convenience.
Our lines are shorter. ;-)
