  1. Thanks for the association! on Microsoft's Strategy Memos · · Score: 1

I don't know about you but I would rather not be compared to a group of people reponsible for dozens of US soldiers' deaths.

Who needs Microsoft's FUD machine when we have overselves to make us look evil?

Going though some old bills my dad showed me the one where he paid many hundreds of dollars to update his PDP-11 to 128K.

  3. This is the Counterstrike of BF1942 on EA Announces Battlefield 2, Console Versions · · Score: 5, Informative

Desert Combat is a BF1942 mod built by a bunch of people that surpasses the gameplay of the original by miles. Since DC is so much better then vanilla BF1942 EA hired those people and now they are working on the new game. CS has the same type of history.

EA mentions the Middle Eastern thing because DC had the Americans fighting the Iraqis.

  4. Usually not the manufactures. on Technology Makes New Cars Too Expensive to Fix · · Score: 1
This also ties in with Ford (and other manufacturers?...) buying up junkyards to dry up the independent supply of repair parts.

Indepentent compainies are usually to blame for this one. What happens is that the manufacturer stops making the part then a few shops buy them all up. They can charge whatever they want since they are the one and only source.

  9. sigalert.com on Solutions for Avoiding Traffic? · · Score: 2, Informative

LA has a whole bunch of traffic sensors and these guys use them to build a realtime map of freeway speeds. They cover a few other cities and they also carry all the Caltrans accident reports for cities with no sensors.

The best part is that you can login with your WAP enabled phone and check your predefined routes and see which one is the fastest.

  10. I call bullshit on this. on RFID Coming 'Whether You Like It Or Not' · · Score: 1

If this guy was drunk it would be documented in the bloodwork done at the hospital.

Second, the defense would be smarter then to bring this kind of thing in a trail. The jury would go apeshit if the store proved it keep tabs on everybody's dirty secret.

  11. A little trivaa on Skywalker Ranch Wines · · Score: 2, Interesting

His vineyards have belonged to his family for generations. In order to finish Apcolypse Now he had to use the vineyards as collateral for his loans. If AN flopped the vineyards would have been the bank's and Coppola would have been screwed.

AN Redux was the movie Coppola wanted to make but he was too afraid he wouldn't make enough money with that version so the "orignal" version was released instead.

  21. race differences and anti-Israel vs. anti-Semitism on What You Can't Say · · Score: 1

Pointing out differences between the races in a phyisical sense gets to much flak. Rush may be an ass but if you go through the NFL white quarterbacks outnumber black ones.

Then there's Dusty Baker getting in trouble for suggesting black players are better suited to the heat.

Also, too many people think being anti-Israel is anti-Semitism. If you complain about Israel tactics in sending helicopters to flatten whole apartment buildings most people would accuse you of thinking maybe Autchwitz wasn't such a bad idea after all.
