I did it! I saw a glimpse of the new website before it died again! I am not lying guys, I swear! Now if only I can download the damn thing then I can go to bed and prepare myself for explaining why firefox download was more important than meeting the project deadline.
I have been running FF3 beta ever since it came out and been loving it with every new extension update, but the one major annoying thing which really ticks me off is that it doesn't open the last tabs and windows when ff is restarted.
Yes that option is checked in the drop down menu in options. No, I don't even get the "Are you sure you want to close x tabs" dialogue when I close the the browser. Yes, I have reinstalled countless times. Yes, I reported this bug the first time I saw it.
I would love to hear if anyone has a solution for this problem.
There are definitely some sick-sick people on slashdot too (no offense guys, I'm not talking about all of you, just some of you). That's one of the reasons I browse most the comments with a minimum threshold of +3 only. Hi there. Welcome to the internet. You will need a written permission from your parents before you can proceed to actually surfing the intarbutt. We look forward to your participation in this great medium. However, you won't need any such permission if you simply wait for 6 more years and hit 18 before coming back here.
Have a nice day.
M: Hey there! I am a Mac! How are you today!:)
P: I'm a PC.
M: How are you PC! Why are you looking all stuffy and bored. Look at my shiny toys and wonderful application! You need to lighten up a little heh. ^_^

You know, if you actually read my post you would have noticed I didn't use that example to justify rapes in the "human" world. I just mentioned that fact since the parent also threw the term around as if it was the most despicable thing in the entire world irrespective of the context. But hey, don't let that stop you from going for my throat.
But then the article digresses into the pits of moral relativism with talk about the Israel-Palistine conflict, or the abortion issue. These are issues of right and wrong. There isn't a real middle ground. Either something is right, or it isn't. There is no "plusses and minuses". How about we talk about the pro's and cons of rape, too? Well, lets do that. What? The mere thought makes you squirm because you are already convinced that your own position on all of those issues is THE correct one? Even on issues as debatable as abortion and as controversial as the Israel-Palestine conflict? I guess you won't like it I mention things like the systematic rape which occurs when a male lion takes over the leadership of a group of lions by killing the old leader. Oh, and he kills the babies first before forcing the females to mate with him to ensure his offsprings will be the one in a dominant position in the next generation. So I guess we can also debate infanticide and murder while we are at it. Thats all nature btw, nothing to do with the sick twisted minds of humans. Am I saying it justifies rape as we know it, No. But you were sort of daring people to mention the "pro points" for rape, so there you go. Have fun thinking about it.
I am sorry if I am being rude but what kind of bullshit is that? Are you seriously comparing things like the results of racial discrimination to how the users of a fucking consumer product feel? What kind of fucked up analogy is that? Is someone holding a gun to your head that you _have_ to use any particular product no matter what? Can't you throw any one of them in the trash bin till its actually doing what you want a product like that to do, or at least doing it better than the rest in the market?
I remember one episode of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex where there was some trouble with a bunch of geisha robots and that bald leader guy Aramaki was trying to convince a military guy to not to raid the place or something. At one point they leave the meeting room to talk in private, Aramaki stretches out a wire from some electronic collar he is wearing and the other guy attaches that to a similar one around his neck, and both of them start communicating without speaking a single word. Seems like the exact sort of thing TFA is talking about.
PS: Yeah anime ruined my life too (and Kusanagi is hawt!)
And people wonder why piracy is not dying? Most of us have tried pirated softwares/movies/mp3s in some form or other when we were in school/college and we all know that it works. We grew up, feel a bit more responsible and make enough money now to actually buy the stuff, and then this type of shit happens. I have hated the whole Steam concept from the start. If I am spending money on a game, its mine after the transaction. I want to be able to play the single player missions even if I have no internet connection. I don't want some company to be able to just make the game unplayable because someone up in management came up with a "Great Idea".
Frankly, I don't understand why people even pay for these games fully knowing the cons of the setup and then bitch about it when it doesn't work like they were hoping for. I would rather buy the old games which don't require some bullshit setup like this. Life is just too short and there are other things to do in life than playing the latest game which may or may not work depending upon the menstrual cycle of the company's server and the alignment of the stars.
Its a pointless strategy. Sue the students because they were downloading pirated stuff, sue the kids and their grandmothers for allowing file sharing on their systems, sue the torrent sites for listing the pirated materials, sue sites like vcdquality for providing a release database, and since all that has worked out so wonderfully, now they are going to sue usenet for sharing copyrighted content. There was a time when I used to care about which new tactic they are going to apply next and who is the next on their hitlist, but after all these years watching the "warezed" content simply grow, I couldn't care less now.
I don't exactly blame them for doing this(apart from bitching about it when they go after some grandma who hasn't even touched the computer in question), they also know they are fighting a losing battle. They can only delay the inevitable by the scare tactics but the outcome of all this was already decided when people started sharing copyrighted material on the net while actually believing that they were not doing anything wrong.
While that might be true, dropping out of the course just because you didn't like how the professor looked is a erm stupid reason to say the least. If you were not able to understand his/her poor English, ask him to repeat himself when you missed what he said. His job is to teach you, not to make you guess what he is trying to say. While you are at it, read up on some material which is going to be taught in the class beforehand, that will make you actually understand the lesson instead of second guessing the lecture and furiously scribbling everything coming out of the professor's mouth onto your notebook.
Don't get me wrong, a good teacher can do wonders for you in a course which seems tough, but NO ONE gets all good teachers in all the courses he/she takes. When you are having a problem following your professor, it just means you will have to put in a bit more extra effort into it yourself. You may also try to get him to explain the difficult part after the class if you can, trust me that helps a lot. I had a physics professor in my third semester at the college who seemed to be talking in tongues sometimes and most of the students just made fun of him. But once I started reading the material before attending the class, it became much easier to understand the lectures. He was very helpful whenever I approached him after the class and helped cleared any doubts whenever he could. Just remember to put in some effort instead of blaming the professor and giving up on that course.
I have to disagree with you about just reading through the parts which seem easy enough for you. Like the GP said, you HAVE to work on the problems to get a good understanding of the concepts. Unless you are talking about the most basic of stuff, you are very likely to miss something important when you skip the problems and just read through the theory part. Most of the time the theory will seem very simple once you start following the logic, but once you start doing problems you will encounter all sorts of problem in putting that theoretical knowledge to practice.
Usually any problem set in a decent book has more than a handful of "problem types" where there is a specific trick required to pply the theory to get the solution. If you just look at the problem and think that "Oh I will apply the theorem and it will turn into some-format and then.." you are in for a surprise when you get to work on the problems in tests/quizzes/exams. I really can not stress the point enough, do the problems yourself. You don't have to do all of them but make sure to do as many different types as possible. The most obvious advantage of working on problems is that you are less likely to forget the theory and its applications in this case as opposed to if you merely read through the chapter and moved ahead.
Booker writes "So IBM announces a 25 gig hard drive... does the world need this yet? Unless this is in a RAID, would you really want to trust 25 gigs on a single drive? What would you use this for? 400+ hours of MP3s comes to mind... "
I started to laugh but the thought that someday my kids will be laughing at the tech-development stories of today gives me some perspective.:)
Good job with posting a URL on SLASHDOT and saying its working. I think you just pissed off a cyborg from future. GL
Oh well, at least you didn't reach the mighty heights attained by our editors who posted the url of that poor company utube (on the story at front page) which was complaining about its site utube.com getting hammered with the traffic intended for YouTube. Er..wait..

P: Hi.
I am pretty sure we will need one full crate of lager before most of us can make out wtf you two guys are talking about.

Sheesh!
Well, you can always install Quicktime Alternative and stay away from all that bullshit.
1. Good guys want to kill Cheney. That seems quite plausible. There, fixed it. So, when is the movie release?

Incredibly insightful post. I totally agree with the last part (DNA > *)

Not to mention the fact that pirates can't make awesome seals, what with a hook for a hand and all.
