While I can understand that the big issue here is that he is saying everyone will go to hell if they don't have his beliefs. There is another underlying issue which will effect his ability to teach, the fact that when a student confronted him in front of an authority figure, the teacher chose to lie instead of fess up. The consequences of this are that he can no longer be trusted by the students or the school. Upon giving the cds to the principal, the teacher refused further comment until he could meet with the union. Once again, poor example, lie until you are caught and when you are caught, run to someone else for help.
Sad state of affairs indeed. Luckily for him, the union will stick up for him, he won't lose his job and I doubt he will get any punishment, for the rest of us though? We have to wonder what our kids are being taught in school. Our kid says something, we ask the teacher and all they have to say is that it was taken out of context... how many times have we been presented with this by our children not only in teaching but also in punishment.
I guess you can reword anything to make another look bad.
Microsoft owns the "store" not the "mall". Publisher says they will sell a game in their store for $x, this game will bring people into the store so they charge a premium for it. MS says no, we don't want to sell the game for that price, publisher says okay, we'll just take it elsewhere, any traffic associated with our game will now go elsewhere. MS says okay, you win, sell it at that price.... people whine that the store owner is being a jerk because they are selling it at what the publisher says.
Here is another example, Office Depot makes a whole profit of $5 per laptop that they sell, most profit comes from accessories. Are they the jerks because their laptops are still pricier than say, Future Shop? Well I guess they could sell it at a loss, the maker still makes all the profit and they lose shelving space, sales person time trying to sell it and all other costs associated with selling something in their store.
Yeah, we don't need game companies building games that have been successful in the past. If that happens we might start getting a hundred different iterations of a popular game from the past... oh wait...
TO ALL THE KIDS
WHO SURVIVED the
1930's 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's !!
First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they were pregnant.
They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes.
Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-based paints.
We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking.
As infants & children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, booster seats, seat belts or air bags. Riding in the back of a pick up on a warm day was always a special treat.
We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle. We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this.
We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank koolade made with sugar, but we weren't overweight because .
WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!
We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.
No one was able to reach us all day.
And we were O.K.
We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down
the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.
We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVD's, no surround-sound, CD's or Ipods, no cell phones!, no personal comput ers , no Internet or chat rooms.......!
WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!
We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no
lawsuits from these accidents.
We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.
We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays,
made up games with sticks and tennis balls and, although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes.
We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them!
Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!
The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of.
They actually sided with the law!
These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever!
The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.
We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned
I have a similar issue when I paste code. Most of it comes through but about 10% of it becomes smiley faces and the like.... I have been working day and night trying to figure out why and when I do, heads will turn, heads!
Just wondering where you are getting this? They never said it would be $200, they merely said it will be priced comparable to past systems that they have released. There was a big hoopla on slashdot that said it would be $200 but last time I checked, slashdot does not dictate the prices of products. It's $250, comes with Wii Sports, I still think it's a pretty good deal compared to everything else in this generation.
Agreed, I graduated a couple months after I turned 17 but that was just because of my birthdate and getting extra credits. I don't use that as a benchmark to guage my intelligence, I use the various awards received throughout highschool to guage that. I hate it when people go on about how they graduated when they were 17... lets see, most people graduate in June this leaves 6 other months of the year for a person to have a birthday, leaving that at about 50%, of course some people's parents choose to wait a year if their birthday is in December.... leaving ~42% graduating at 17. What a bunch of bs.
so ummmm, why didn't you go to the best ranked non-private Wisconsin technical college? I mean, you're so smart so it shouldn't have been a problem, right?
Also, I like how your comments contradict themselves:
"We have one of the highest hiring rates in the region for the IT department and beat the spread of just about any 4 year college too"
"Most of the time the employer won't even ask where you went and if they do, they don't care"
So if the employer doesn't care, why does YOUR school have such a high hiring rate? Is it because you are there?
I hope you don't take me down with your programming prowess because of my disagreements. *cowers*
I don't really understand your argument, sure, I don't know what MC, dots, nef, raid mob, etc means but I know what WOW is. How can you compare terms in a game to an actual game name itself? You mention everyone knows Mario and Madden... How about you bring up terms from within console games... niche as well.
I don't get the big uproar over bundling a virus scanner. People bitch if a virus is released that shuts down windows computers ("blah blah blah, another reason not to run windows... all the viruses", "Mac is way better because it gets no viruses"), Microsoft puts in a virus scanner in the hope of this not happening and people bitch some more. They can't win.
It has been said many times that the wii isn't even trying to compete with the 360 and the ps3.
Pretty sure I don't speak for everyone but I'm just waiting for the price of the 360 to come down for xmas. I think the biggest shift I have seen with people is the kids asking for a 360 for xmas... I haven't heard any kids ask for a ps3 yet. Not that I talk to kids a lot (you know, dirty hands and what not), just friends' kids, my brother and his friends... Flash back 5 or 6 years and all you heard kids say was that they wanted a ps2. You could argue that they aren't the ones buying it and it's the adults but kids do still have a lot of say when their parents are looking for something for xmas. Then you look at all the pissed off people from other Sony fiascos it is quite easy for everyone and their dog to predict a ps3 loss.
I'm not predicting a loss, I can't even commit to trying to predict a loss. I personally can't read everyone's mind or look into the future to see how the release goes. Even after this year we can't predict a winner... maybe late 2007 early 2008.
A new laptop built by my company is shipped to a user. The battery overheats and the laptop catches on fire burning a persons lap and manly goodness. Now, should we initiate a recall? Take the number of laptops in the field, A, multiply by the probable rate of failure, B, multiply by the average out-of-court settlement, C. A times B times C equals X. If X is less than the cost of a recall, we don't do one.
I agree, every now and then I go into these little spending sprees. for example, I purchased an XBox with a couple games, I've played each of those games for about an hour and now they just sit there collecting dust. They weren't bad games, just that sometimes life gets in the way and you either don't play it again or you pick it up a couple months later. The price of a game is easier to take over time than it is in one pop.... not that $24 is a lot, just saying that if i'm going to play it for an hour then pick it up again a couple months later or never, they still get some money and I don't feel like I was raped.
That would be fine except for laptop keyboards where the number pad is on the letters...

I can't count how many times I have logged into windows with the numlock on and had my password rejected a couple times before I noticed that the numlock was on. It's a stupid system but I'm sure someone has an excuse for it.
I wonder if GW will bring this up in his next public address. "I have personally put 5 dinosaurs in Afghanistan to look for Osama, we should expect results any day now."
Are you referring to the many "unbiased" game reviews that you can pick up for any given game? It's not like their ratings are affected by ad revenues or anything. No no, they look at a game and give it a rating based on a scale of 7 to 10, 7 being it was a poor game but we need that half million dollar ad on page 50.
I just don't get it why everyone has to blame piracy. They aren't really losing money as most people who pirate games just won't buy them anyways. I'm not going to go out and spend $60 on yet another Spiderman game. I will however, download it and try it out, if it's good I will buy it, if not, I'm not wasting money. I wouldn't have bought the game to begin with. When Starcraft came out, I had a pirated copy, played it for a bit then bought it. Someone else had a pirated copy, didn't like it, didn't buy it. That same person wouldn't have bought it to begin with.
Same as movies, I'm not going to pay $50 (two people, popcorn, softdrinks...) to go see some crap movie, ie. Jersey Girl.
It's not that I started out this way of downloading everything under the sun to try it out first, they caused it by releasing crap game after crap game.
