And there is nothing clever nor ironic about that movie. It's the cinema equivilant of Godwin's Law. And that is lost in that that is the sort of behavior that is celebrated throughout the movie.

Fact: DVD is near the end of its life for a high quality movie format.

End of its life? Since when did distribution formats have a shelf life? Not to mention that DVD has been on the market for just over a decade. DVD only surpassed VHS in in sales in 1993. Closer to two decades of existence for VHS.

And look at CDs. 20+ years on the market and still hasn't been replaced. Why haven't you moved on over to SACD or DVD-Audio? They both offer higher quality and storage capacity for music.

I think the CD market is a prime example of what will happen to the DVD market. CDs and CD players have only recently begun to see serious competition in digital music players like the iPod and distribution systems like iTunes. Why?
Because they offer higher convenience at a quality level that people can live with. Something BD and HD-DVD don't.

We all know "tomboy" women and "effemite" men. Or people who skew in those general directions to different degrees. All told, if you took the whole and looked at it, you would probably find that you have a decent spread over all different archtypes for both genders.

I think (at least some of) this is within allowance by the GPL. Basically he is saying, if you are a single user, you can use this free (as in beer) binary and I will provide you the source, however, you are not a single user or are planning on reselling, you may not use this free binary. The GPL says (in a nutshell) that you must provide the source to those you provide the binary to, it does not say you cannot restrict who you provide the binary to. That is the right the GPL actually grants. The freedom to modify and redistribute. He is explicitly denying distribution of the binary to commercial sources from his site. Of course, he is using the honor system to enforce his policy. Now if these home users distribute to corporations, that is within their right... However... Linking to the source at DansGuardian's site may not qualify for "providing the source", because technically that may no longer be the source used to compile the binary. The user would have to provide the source to the coporation. DansGuardian would in no way be responsible for it. If the user didn't provide it and DansGuardian packs up his site, the corporation has no call to demand the source from them (DansGuardian). Because DansGuardian didn't provide the binary and the binary was explicitly denied to them from the website, therefore DansGuardian has no obligation to provide the source to the company. And if DansGuardian notices that a lot of "users" are actually corporations, he can remove the binary and source from his site entirely and distribute on a case by case basis. This is within his right under the GPL. The GPL makes no provision on having to provide the binary to anyone, only that if you do, you must provide the source to recreate the work under the GPL.

Actually in terms of video games, that $10 is still $10 no matter when he spends it. The game is $50 now, it is $50 then. That is 0% inflation. Inflation is only relative to cost of goods. This is the first generation in a while where we have seen inflation in the costs of goods. Usually, the video game market deflates, making purchasing video games during the early part of the life cycle retarded since the price will go down eventually. But that is the definition of a luxury item: retarded purchase. And nothing can make money you didn't spend worth more. Holding on to $10 for a year, doesn't allow you to buy $12 worth of stuff later. No, you can buy $10 worth of stuff. Now if that stuff costs more now than before, then your purchasing power has just decreased. It would've been wiser to buy that stuff then, when $10 would've gotten you more. But if that stuff costs less now, then waiting was a wise move, because his $10 can be used to buy more. Inflation isn't an overall thing, you can calculate the aggregrate to note the trend, but it still comes down to relativity.
