What about a Movie DVD that has a computer game on it that can be played in a computer? Or a DVD that's for your DVD Player that is a game.. Like space ace and alike?
They can be both, and now adays, they usually are?
Like the ones that have stupid little games in the menu.. that's not part of the movie, and I would cosider it software.
At my last to jobs I -NEEDED- to run Outlook. They used Exchange for email, they did NOT have imap or weboutlook turned on. We used shared calendars and you HAD to use them for scheduling meetings. Good luck using any good email program with exchange when it doesn't have imap turned on.
"Will we loose our "vanity" machine addresses (something.ne.mediaone.net)?"
I used to work for MediaOne.. They ALWAYS hated giving out these vanity hostnames, not sure why. They've been trying to phase them out forever but keep getting complaints, that's why they're still available. My guess would be that they would dump them.
Why is this an airport killer? The airport base station is easy to configure, easy to use, and the new one even has a trusted lan connection that you can set other permissions to. There's windows/linux software to configure it.
Why would I run this linux thing over the OS that's already on the Airport, an OS that's specifically designed for this operation.
Okay then.. what about Beta and VHS then.. They exsisted at the same time. If I buy a Beta tape, and then consumer beta bites the dust, should I be given the same movie in VHS by the company that sold me the beta tape?
Yes, but the point that the poster was trying to make was that when his CD no longer works in the current player (it being UMG-Player for WinXP) He should be entitled to the same song in the new format. How is that any different from me having an 8-Track and my 8-Track player breaking for whatever reason.. since I can't just go down to radio shack anymore and buy an 8-Track player. So my software (8-Track) is no longer compatible with any of todays players (cassette, CD, whatever).. Should I have my entire 8-Track collection be replaced with cassettes becuase the 8-Track is not obsolite?
the IR for data transfer and the IR for controlling your TV are in different parts of the spectrum, that's why you Visor and most Palms for that matter don't do a good job at controlling your TV. You can get an IR transmitter for a Visor that fits into the springboard slot that's in the correct part of the spectrum.
Why does this sound like a bad idea? And if it's not, could somebody please explain why it's not? Creating all these black holes and stuff seems dangerous.
Actually.. to be fair.. OSX.1 is the full version and comes with OS9 (for classic).. You don't need to prove that you have a previous version.. or need one.
this is a good point.. and when you look at the few alternitives, both now and in the past.. MacOS, OS/2, Be, even boxed version of linux that come with support.. They're all around the same price.. So how is that overcharging..
Also, as far as Windows being pre-installed.. Who let it be pre-installed? The person selling the computer. They didn't have to have an OEM deal with MS, but they decided to.. You don't like it, buy a computer from somebody that doesn't have an OEM deal with MS.
You can add hard drive space to a ReplayTV too.. and they have nice, super-easy-to-use windows software for it, and you can hook the drive up to a windows box and get the videos off of it.. None of this extract-stream stuff like a TiVo..
Of course, having used both, and owning a TiVo, I must say that I find the TiVo user interface a thousand times better then a ReplayTV..
"If you were to carry around your passport you'd probably be fine (and could always jaunt off to Canada on a moments notice)"
I know going over the border into Canada thru VT or NH you don't even need a passport, a drivers license or birth certificate will work just fine. I've done it many times myself.
There's nothing wrong with standing on a street corner with a megaphone saying that my ex-employer laid me off and I think they suck for doing so.. Or that I think my ex-manager had a fat ass, or was an asshole because he yelled at me all the time and I didn't like it.
Usually people don't have that kind of time to waste standing on a street corner, but they have some time to make a web page that says that
Now, if somebody is up there saying that their boss was on crack at work, and it wasn't true, that's another story..
I somewhat agree with this.. But there are a few of us (including myself) that like CRT better. The only flatpanel displays that look as good as a CRT to me are extreamly expensive. All the ones that are of lower cost have that wacky ghosting effect, not as bad as the old dual scan LCD displays, but it's there when playing higher framerate games.. And even with those huge flat panel plasma TVs, I sill like a good Sony Wega TV better.
I belive it only applies to blank audio CDs, not data CDs.. There is an ever-so-slight difference.. As most of those component CD-Copy machines you get for your home stereo will only work with blank audio CDs and not with normal blank data CDs..
When is a common idea common? There are so many things that are patented, various types of paper bags, slightly different bottle caps.. Different type of tires that are almost exactly the same as other types of tires.. It's very easy to claim that something is a common idea once it's been invented and patented.
It just seems silly that all the geeks are bitching about common ideas on patents now when common stuff has been patented since the beginning of patents.

What happens then? You didn't get a big package from the record company with a copy of all the stuff you had on 8-track on a cassette tape did you?
So lets have a story promoting not only the MPAA and the advancement of DVDs, but link to the sale of it on Amazon!
You could have at least linked to 800.com or something.. GO SLASHDOT!

twice.. but with my passport. But I was with my dad, and he just had his birth cert. (no picture ID). Had no problems at all..
