Power IS determined by Vrms. The reason you have to spec stuff for Vpeak is because of the voltages DO reach vpeak and arcing etc could occur if you only budgeted your spacings/insulators for vrms.
And since the initial spark arcing possibility is determined by voltage, but how big it can grow is determined by power, you would basically vaporize the lines unless some breaker went off.
The main advantage of AC though -was- the ease of transforming ac voltages. This is still largely true today. We know much more about how to transform DC but to do it on the scales required by a nationwide grid? i dont think so, at least not yet.
Of course, you do get some capacitive losses (but at 60hz? minimal). You also get 60hz noise in EVERY piece of electronics, which can be a pain for someone like me that looks inside them all day long.
If you look at the graph of energy absorbtion by water as a plot of frequency...
It pretty much goes up in a in hump-like linear shape from 0 to tens and 100's of ghz, but there is a slight spike at the 2.4ghz area. If i find the graph i will post it, but I originally saw it in a RF textbook from school.
I second the sugestion to read King Rat..wonderful book.
As is 'Shogun' by the same author since we are talking about japan. A very realistic portrait of japan at the time. Might help explain why the suicide rate is so high. Back then it was a totally normal and accepted thing to do to make up for wrongs, etc. Almost morally required to avoid shame.
It isnt that hard to comprehend that suicide today in japan wouldnt be that 'bad' compared to shame of some life failure.
If you do, dont bother with many of those 'whole mind body spirit' foo foo martial arts. I've seen many a karate blackbelt get thrashed in high school.
Teach them the one that seems to win the most real fights..jiu jitsu. Rolling on the ground and twist something the right way and threaten to break it and the fight is over.
Look at something like all the original ultimate fighting videos..the winner every damn time is jiu jitsu.
Yep. the Hudson Bay Company is now know as 'The Bay' here in canada and is a slightly more up-scale store like zellers or any of its ilk. Certainly a sad decline.
You should know westinghouse if for no other reason than they were the ones to employ tesla and bring his crazy idea (ac power) to fruition by building the first ac power plant at niagra falls.
That has to be one of the most signifigant accomplishments for any company, ever.
On a side note, another company it is kind of sad to see fading today in a way is 'The Bay' which you may not have in the USA. But they used to own most of what we today call canada, and now they are a crappy deparment store. Such is life:D
While your point about older laptops is well made..you REALLY cannot compare a toughbook to the other two you mentioned, certainly not to a dell..not as far as physical toughness goes.
Which one of them would you guess can be run over, dropped, put in very humid environements, and still keep working fine? I take my old CF-27 everywhere. From work to dirtbiking (used for mapping etc)..
MODS: Why flamebait? he didnt call anyone names or even get too upset, just explained about why his data is statistically signifigant. A little over sensitive today?:D
Not all wireless mice are equal. Take a look at the later logitech mice, from the MX-700 upwards including the G series.
There is no possible way to percieve lag since the updating is done synchronously with the USB refresh, just like it would in a wire.
If you use some bluetooth microsoft mouse or any cheaper wireless mouse, then yes, there will be VERY percievable lag. But like i said, try a mx700, mx1000, or G7. Unless your brain is helping you percieve lag because you know it is wireless...its just not there.
There is of course a price for the frequent updates. The batteries last on the order of days instead of weeks or months. This is why they make them rechargable like cordless telephones. They are also a bit heavier because of the batteries. But lag is no longer an issue with wireless gaming mice and hasnt been for years.
Keep in mind when mythbusters say BUSTED. I am not sure if i have EVER seen a show that was actually "busted". It just didnt wokr in their very specific implementation.
But, when they say plausible, it is almost always actually plausible.
Its still the same basic core as the original pentium pro oh so long ago. There have been some improvments (tacking on some SSE versions, new steppings and processes) but the basic core is the same. The pipeline length and stages are identical. Not much has really changed.

Irrelevant if you come here for the latest breaking news in tech, which I doubt 99% of the people do. They come here to discuss tech and hear from the funny, insightful, and informative among slashdots masses.
Here ill follow your troll moderation with maybe a flaimbait of my own.
I dont edit or review source and couldnt care less about the open source movement. If linux was developed by some corperation to become the product it is today i would still use it.
You just have to look at the fact that MS has done this with other technologies a million times (hyperbole before you jump on my back) and you will see why this knee jerk reaction is common.
I don't think it makes me a racist to consider people who purposely learn how to not speak English properly. I guess I just hit a nerve.
My roommate is black (with his white wife) and I have black co-workers and get along amazingly well with all of them, just like anyone else. Skin colour has nothing to do with how superior a person is, but purposefully dumbing yourself down really doesn't speak to me that an intelligent person is behind the message.
While skype IS multiplatform and i'm happy for it since i use it daily....their linux client is no where near the level of their windows client in some respects.
I have a feeling we wont see video on the linux client for a while.
Agreed, 100 times over.
Actually that is not the issue at all.

Its basically a P3(which is just a faster p-pro) with ss3 tacked on..isreal had WAY less to do with it than the normal intel labs I can tell you that.
