What are you talking about? MS just extended the warranty on the 360 to 3 years.

"This war was largely waged through video rental shops."
And this one is not waged there, at all. When the studios moved away from the old model of releasing video tapes to rental stores first (at $70+ per tape) and then to the consumer market, and to the DVDs straight to consumers, the market shifted. This battle is going to be waged at Walmart and Best Buy. The video store is a moot point.

But 2 people have posted that they use Linux. The fact that you don't use Linux is meaningless.

Wouldn't the opposite of theft involve giving someone something? When a theft occurs, the thief has gained something and the thieved has lost something without their consent. The opposite should involve the thief losing something with his consent and the thieved gaining something.

To say copying data is the opposite just confuses the issue. Copying data is not related to theft, in any way. Thieves in Bizarro World do not copy data. They give things to people. And then Bizarro Superman busts them for it.

    1) You're a moron and therefore most things that come out of your mouth are bound to be moronic.
    2) You missed the idea that the customer isn't evaluating the fucking PS3 based on what hardware is inside the box but is instead evaluating it based on the games versus other games that are available.

Yes, you did say that. I wasn't disagreeing with that point. I'm sorry if it appeared I was. My point was that there is a larger risk for Sony with the route they've taken in regards to HD movies versus what MS has done. I think that considering the 1 year headstart MS has had and my belief that there is not a real big push for consumers to replace their DVDs yet (it'll come, just not too soon) and (sorry, this is running on) the fact that in the console business, snowball effects are very prevalent and difficult to combat, Sony should have cut Blu-Ray out.

"but it definitely has a better chance of giving Sony a boost than microsoft with their HD-DVD drive,"
Or it has a chance to cripple the PS3 as being overpriced. I believe that the majority of potential customers in the North American market are not clamoring for HD and that DVD is "good enough"; so, by including a Blu-Ray drive that is not driving sales but merely inflating the price, Sony is hurting the chances of the PS3.

"I agreed with your point implicitly -- and customers get to do nearly everything they'd expect to be able to do with the hardware in question."
My point was that the vast majority of potential customers for Sony aren't defining the value of the PS3 in terms of the hardware. They are defining the value of the PS3 based on the games. The current PS3 library does not add outshine the 360. Therefore, the 360 is a better deal - even if the PS3 has better hardware [however you want to define better]. The mp3 device was a good analogy. If you've got one mp3 player that can play mp3s and also do X, Y, Z [where X, Y, and Z are tertiary functions unrelated to playing mp3s] for $600 and another mp3 player that plays mp3s and does X for $400, the second one is the better value.

I think it's rather rude to call someone's analogy "stupid" as well. That type of statement isn't going to advance the discussion any and wasn't that the point of your post? To discuss the issue?

You completely missed his point. The fact is that if you define the value of the PS3 by the components inside then it is a great value. But no one defines value like that. The potential customer defines the value of the PS3 based on what they can do with it - not the cost of the components inside. It was not a stupid comparison, you just missed the point.

Why should I buy a PS3 when it costs more and offers no new gaming experience that I cannot get on a Wii or 360 at a higher price? If one of you Sony shills would answer that, I'll gladly consider a PS3. Without that question answered, I've got to fall back on the fact that Sony sued lik-sang.com in 12 different jurisdictions with predatory and bullshit lawsuits and they installed rootkits on the computers of their own customers.
