Apple's original, flim-flam video explaining why Intel CPUs sucked arse. And the (deleted) web page at Apple explaining, in more details, why Intel CPUs sucked arse.

If you look at the photo in the link, the guy has a section called Bittorrent movies in the right-hand side. Clearly that is intent to distribute!

Lessig in Wired: "Why Your Broadband Sucks"Interesting article (or audio). Excerpt:
You'll be pleased to know that communism was defeated in Pennsylvania last year. Governor Ed Rendell signed into law a bill prohibiting the Reds in local government from offering free Wi-Fi throughout their municipalities. The action came after Philadelphia, where more than 50 percent of neighborhoods don't have access to broadband, embarked on a $10 million wireless Internet project. City leaders had stepped in where the free market had failed. Of course, it's a slippery slope from free Internet access to Karl Marx. So Rendell, the telecom industry's latest toady, even while exempting the City of Brotherly Love, acted to spare Pennsylvania from this grave threat to its economic freedom.

Re:Can you click?
Personally, I'm rooting for big advancements in non-invasive brain interaction systems.
What's wrong with invasive systems?
Many of us are living longer, so the chances of all of us spending part of our lives partially or completely disabled continues to climb.
You may be surprised, but the advances that give us longer lives also take aging and related illnesses away from us. -

Re:Why use a tiny keyboard on the 17"?
While the point about not sitting centrally is definitely valid, take a look at this picture of the 15" machine and compare it to the standard Apple keyboard. The inverted T is half-height, the function keys are half height (and not all 15 are there), there is no numeric pad, no pageup/down/home/end/help/del block, the return is single height not double, the control alt, space and apple keys are smaller than usual, there is an extra key to the left of the spacebar and the gaps betwen all the blocks that I'm used to on my desktop mac keyboard (which, incidentally measures 17" across) have gone.
I can see why they have had to compromise like this on the 12" machine, but the 17" could have been far closer to the desktop layout, if not identical. Learning the new layout is certainly possible, and after a bit of use I'm sure it would feel 'just right', but why do I need to relearn when the extra space is there? -

The Wired cover is available here:

It's posted, just not linked up.
Per Asa Dotzler's blog -
Curious Images...I saw this article from Wired yesterday and looked at the image that was provided. They said it was given to them by Elonka Dunin. The thing is, if you look very closesly at the letters in an image window under magnification, there are intermittent red pixels occurring on certain letters on what should be a black and white only image. Could this be another code?

PISA test, not just math
That's the PISA : program for internation student assessment, and they cover much more than just math. Reading is (IMHO) more important.
Here's the full report in PDF. -
Something I was curious about..
I've seen this book in stores and I'm curious, why is the cover of a german shepard? Instead of, oh I dunno, maybe, a big cat?

Re:Another interesting article on that site
This player was around when in-dash mp3 was first becoming mainstream, and was linux based, and hard drive based, but had a pretty heafty price tag. I opted for the mp3 cd player because it was cheaper, and because I go 4x4ing, I want something that'll survive the shock. When they make a player that's got better shock resistance, then I'll be impressed.

Re:Not really a patentMy shops have always said Sue-Doh, as in I'm a fake super-user. I'm not sure what the etymology is, but I think that Sudo has become one of those words that the pronunciation of will vary depending onn where you heard it first, like "Data". Pseudophed rine is given a phonetic spelling "soo doe e FED rin" and sounds like this There have been other discussion of this subject too: http://www.kottke.org/remainder/04/02/5050.html
Short of a posting here on the official sudo site by Todd or Chris (both of whom I bet could care less) I'm gonna keep saying "Sue-Doh" out of homage to Homer Simpson. Perhaps MSFT's patent is based on the pronunciation?

Customers freaking out...
Well, if someone parked outside my building, pointed a six foot dish at my office, and told me my wireless data needed encrypting, I'd probably freak out too.
