Ill Throw my 2 cents in
These are my favorite in no particular order:
Quantum Leap, Star Trek: Next Generation, Stargate SG-1, Battlestar Galactica (2004), Andromeda, and Tripping the Rift -
Re:Get it right..
No... Stars form however they damn well please
No, stars form however the rules of the universe allow them to.
P.S. Sorry, but it's one of my pet peeves when people anthropomorphize inanimate objects.
Well I guess that depends on which Andromeda galaxy we are talking about. -
What?
Kill off a highly profitable and well-known franchise that is a household name in *every* home in order to break off and attempt to bring something new and original to television? Impossible I say! Doomed to failure and mediocracy.

Discount
That's great. Not only do they stop to fourth season they also wrap two episodes and sell them as one. Two at price of one, really shows what's it's all about. Not following the previous debate concerning the end of series, why it was ended at fourth season? By Andromeda http://www.andromedatv.com/about/behind_billhamm0
1 .html they claimed that normal span of was five-sex years with the networks. Do we also get four seasons instead of five? -
DIYCome on, people... sure, time-traveling alien Nazis are worse than most holodeck episodes, but seriously - how many of you have submitted scripts (Trek or otherwise) to any of the production/publishing players?
Sure, they'll probably file it in the trash before they look at it, perhaps even sending you a polite rejection letter if you're lucky. Be sure to send a short synopsis of the plot and major waypoints of the storyline you intend along with the story, and be sure to mail a copy to yourself (which remains unopened until court) in case your idea gets robbed.
Before BigBiz started doing this stuff, the major Sci-Fi outfits (eg Astounding Science Fiction, Amazing Storeis and Thrilling Wonder Stories) were happy to receive submissions from readers. Many would be rejected, but a lucky few, including Isaac Asimov had several stories published and went on to forge careers from Sci-Fi because people enjoyed their work. Right now, the ratings for Enterprise are low, not because there's no demand for sci-fi or because the market's too saturated, but because Enterprise is still using alien time-traveling nazis. And once you've seen B5, or V, or read Foundation, or hell, even watched Andromeda, this level of surrealism just doesn't belong in the kind of thing which expects an hour of my life every week. If the show is to be popular, it needs to decide if its audience is
- a) Lowest common denominator
- b) Sci-Fi fans
Send them some ideas. They could really use them.

Re:Bummer
Actually, that is a show called Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda starring Kevin Sorbo and produced by Majel Roddenberry. But they had to remove the Trek part, but just substitute "Federation" every time someone says "Commonwealth" and you'll know what I mean.

Re:Why am I not surprised?
Another idea: breakdown of the Federation. It collapses sometime after Picard's retirement, and a starship crew makes the rounds restoring order to worlds and rebuilding alliances.
Wasn't that the plot of Andromeda. -
Re:Did you expect anything less...
Throw a birthday party for a foreign dignitary, of course.
:) Just use your imagination. I'm sure you can come up with some truly amazing possibilites for orbital use of tethered, tactical nukes. Actually, it's a quote from Andromeda. The whole quote is:
"Requested items: One Mark V ECM unit, 1000 km of fullerene cable, one low yield nuclear warhead. Stated purpose: birthday party for foreign dignitary."
--Argosy Special Operations Service requisition form, CY 9512
I think it sums up my general views of how foreign policy should be executed nicely. -
Re:Farscape rocks
Whatever, you spaceshipfucker.
Do you think the other ships call her "Meatfucker" behind her back?
Say what you will, I wouldn't mind a go with the ship in Andromeda. -
Technology that can help, even at this stage
If you're morally squeamish, stop reading this now.
As others have mentioned, she's certain to be in contact with somebody. You probably know who. Bugs have been around for a long time, in many forms. Yes it's illegal, and invades their privacy, but *insert profanity here* them. There're pinhole cameras, microphones, phone taps... the list goes on. I'd think the ideal would be to install a laptop in their attic with 802.11, to monitor your inputs. You can then easily access your recorded data, reset, reconfigure, without regaining access to the building. Yes, getting your stuff in there in the first place is difficult and dangerous... and illegal. Use a cheap laptop, vampire it into an electrical circuit, use WEP, don't leave anything personally identifiable with it. Depending on the structure, you might be able to simply tap the phone from the outside, which would simplify things.
If you are certain... REALLY certain, that someone actually has direct, specific information, that will lead you directly to your child, without possibility of failure, you might consider using older technology to force that person to give you that information. Violence should be considered only if you are certain both that it will succeed, and that you will get away with it. You're no good to your child if you're in prison. I have no sympathy for your victim, because he is endangering your child by aiding and abbetting your ex's crime, and remember, at any point, he can avoid all discomfort and most inconvenience by providing you with the information you request.
One word of warning. If you suspect your own sanity in any way, then don't trust your judgement on what someone knows or whether you can get away with extracting that information, OR even on whether you are in the right and your ex is in the wrong.
Obligatory relevant quote from a sci-fi show:
"The soul of the Nietzschean is this:
We are arrogant.
We are vain.
We are manipulative.
We are selfish.
And we love our children."
Drago Museveni, "Primary Reflections"

I'm coming out: I watch Andromeda
As a science fiction snob, I should never ever watch this show, let alone admit it, but the only episodic television show I watch is Andromeda. Even worse, it's pretty much just because Lexa Doig is so hot. (For those who don't know, she plays the avatar of a massively powerful warship, so she's not even playing someone real, and yet that's part of the appeal. Psychoanalyze me now!)
I'm going to science fiction hell for sure.
For non-episodic science fiction shorts, I try to check out Exposure . It's a mixed bag, but usually has something worth watching every show.

Voices from the GraveWe see an amazing number of "new" stories by dead people, these days: a sequel to the venerable A Canticle for Leibowitz ; an "uncensored" version of Stranger in a Strange Land . Even the late, overrated Gene Roddenbery seems to be just hitting his stride. It brings a whole new meaning to the term "ghost writing"!

Re:Andromeda = COOL
I also enjoy Andromeda very much.
It and Farscape are two of the best Sci-Fi on these days.
Oh, and The Invisible Man

AndromedaLike many, I'm getting very tired of the Trek franchise.
However, I find Andromeda to be a refreshing show. Although there are some TNG like storylines (it is a Roddenberry show after all), the universe and characters are quite interesting.
For instance, Andromeda has advanced technology like seat belts, and consoles that don't explode and kill people! The character's don't blindly love thier captain like in TNG, and the dialog is quite un-Trekish. Oh, there's no holodeck!
It's still in it's first season shakedown, still I'm hoping it will get better with time, although the other recent Roddenberry series, Earth: Final Conflict was basically unwatchable by the middle of it's second season.
Give Andromeda a shot.
