Re:Meh.
This used to be a huge problem, then Apple switched to Intel and you can load Windows via Bootcamp for gaming. I had friends get the 512MB video card option on their MBP's just so they could play the latest games.
My opinion of Bootcamp

Re:You guys don't get it
That maybe the reason more women don't go into tech is cultural - not in the "women are more interested in nail polish than hard drives"-sort of way, but in the sense that they sick and tired of dealing with all the "oohh, titties!" comments that we men think is good natured humor, but gets old with women?
While this may mean fewer women in IT, it will certainly mean better women in IT. And before you jump on me for being sexist, what I mean by this is women who can deal with that kind of bigotry. Especially fun are the ones who fight fire with fire -- you make a comment about "ooh, titties", the woman says "Yeah, yours are getting kind of big..."
Ok, bad example, but I'm not even that smart of a guy when it comes to insults. I know for a fact there are women who just love to be in this kind of situation -- no competition from other women, and if the guys want to be assholes, they're also probably easily... distractable.
And one more thing -- if I'm ever guilty of this, I'd rather be told about it, to my face, so I can change, rather than see the woman walk off the job entirely.
But anyway, this whole thing is moot, because Slashdot is not a good representation of the IT industry -- especially because it's online. It's a lot harder to say "ooh, titties" when they're staring you in the face, unless you're this guy

BootCamp For Confused People?
Somehow I am reminded of a recent issue of AppleGeek Lite.

Re:I didn't see much Apple hype...
Penny Arcade's been PC users this whole time? I'm not surprised--they think and write like PC people. Dull little people, that is, drawing dull little comics.
Try Applegeeks. Real Apple comics for real Apple people. -
Re:Popular Web Comics
I'm surprised nobody's mentioned User Friendly. Also on my list are Queen of Wands (which finished its several-year run, and is now doing a rapid-fire rerun with commentary), Something Positive, Applegeeks (which just finished an uncharacteristic Batman parody and is now resuming its normal staples of inappropriate behavior and Ramadan jokes), and Mac Hall (unrelated, at least in name, to Apple Macs). For the grad students among us, may I recommend Piled Higher and Deeper; more so for those who are considering grad school.
Less traditionally, we also have Lore Brand Comics, which is pretty much standup in webcomic form. Alas, it hasn't been updated in months, but the archive is certainly worth looking through. Paradox Lost appears to be a comic book being written in webcomic form.
Other people mentioned them, but I have to say some of my favorites are Real Life and MegaTokyo.

Re:Final Cut?
Man, I feel your pain. I'm having to run FCP4 and DSP2 on a Blue & White G3 upped to a 550 MHz G4. I have a backlog of video to encode that I put off because I don't want to dedicate it for days at a time to encoding. To go to a 1 GHz G4 ZIF would cost $350.
Switching to a G5 now would require another patch to the installer and applications or upgrading to FCP5 since versions that would run refuse to on a non-AGP Mac.
At least DSP2 stopped crashing every time I added a new asset to the project, but I still wait to install 10.4.3 for fear of more Firewire problems.

Yet more webcomics: Real Life, PhD, Applegeeks
And so, here is my obligatory list of favorite webcomics that weren't mentioned: PhD, Real Life, Applegeeks.

Shouldn't they be bellowing "Oh Yeah!"????

Webcomics that are funny:
- Real life
- Phd (perhaps not as funny to non grad students)
- Applegeeks

Good practice
I think anyone that's ever tried a webcomic knows that consistency is the biggest challenge. It's hard to develop a routine and get strips up in a timely fashion with some degree of regularity. That's a critical factor in determining a strip's early success at drawing an audience. Internet users are lazy, and if you don't have any timeliness, they move on. People might counter with Mac Hall or Megatokyo, but those premiered during a slightly less dense webcomic atmosphere. Also, they drew audiences in with the art, which is the other key component. You can slack off on the updates if your art kicks ass and still maintain a decent audience. Hell, if you get both you become a rising megastar like Apple Geeks or Scary Go Round.

What do you mean, other than PA?
You seem to think everyone's favorite comic is PA.... which it's certainly not. I feel they've gotten lazier with their jokes (relying more on cliches and overdone punchlines) since they started making those pretty backgrounds. Sure they do funny strips sometimes, but only occasionally do I actually laugh at PA anymore.
IMO, the funniest strip today is Real Life, while artistically, I'd have to go for the likes of Mac Hall or Applegeeks. -
Crap.
I was reading AppleGeeks earlier, this was in one of their blogs. Was thinking I should've submitted it. Oh, well.

Someone else thought of that too.

Re:OK I may be rising to the bait but here goes...
No... people that weaned on Wind0ze would say of an iMac: "Neat monitor. Where's the tower?" or [whine]"I can't install the internet!"[/whine]. Speaking of people ignorant to *other* Operating systems, I think that this comic woud be most relevant and interesting.

Re:Uh...
Uh, no, he agreed that it was better for the movie that shooting webs was part of his genetic mutation. Why?
I heard he disagreed.Because it would have been fucking stupid. If all the sudden he's able to make super-industrial-strength web shooter complete with reloadable cartridges...in a far-fetched movie, that just pushes it to the realm of stupidity.
It was a plot point in the comics (I read them when I was much younger). His webbing dissolved after about an hour, I think, and he occasionally ran out.
As an aside, you really should look at this.
