Re:a game that gives you pain?
Or like ActiveDeath technology?

This is blatantly false
The open-source community knows that the only way to ensure market share is taking the virus monopoly from Microsoft.

Microsoft Patents 'Phone-Home' Failure Reporting
Darn. I just set up Argus to monitor server failure and phone me when it happens. Are the evil monkeys coming for me now? -

Obviously...
The problem is that the court has not upgraded to MS Time.
In any case, good for the court on putting the ridiculousness of the situation in writing. I mean, if the litigators are going to disrespect the court by wasting its time with ridiculous motions, they may be obligated to follow along, but they can at least put their own disrespect for the litigants in evidence. -
Re:So sad
How do you get rid of nasty infections? Autoclave! Heat things up enough to smoke out all those nasty hoomins and things can get back to normal around here.
As for volcanos, it looks like the production of CO/CO2 in eruptions can have an effect on global warming. It turns out, however, that the ash/SO2 released into the atmosphere has a cooling effect. It also helps scatter sunlight, allowing for more robust tree growth which leads to more carbon being taken out of the atmosphere.
So, all we need to happen is for the Yellowstone (NetBSD) volcano to erupt (supposed to be violent enough to wipe out hoomanity) and fill the skys with enough ash and SO2 to bring on Fimbulwinter to slow down global warming. Or have a big rock smack into the Indian Ocean. -
Re:XP programming??
"XP starts with the assumption that requirements will change and the that all requirement are not known at the time when you start building the system."
All is well until this happens: Coders Baffled by Satisfied Client ;)
"that's when management calls me into a meeting to tell me the client revised the specs, and I get another two weeks to work on it. But, this time the client stuck with the original spec. I'm screwed."

RIAA gets this!
-
Re:Click bang !!Actually, the RIAA is already considering shooting babies:
An RIAA spokesperson that was also present said that they were taking serious looks at SCO's proposal for fighting piracy in the music industry. "I think this will be a great deterrent. It will force parents to talk to their kids about the evils of intellectual piracy. In a free economy, this kind of thing is a must."
-
Life imitates ArtFrom last week's BBSpot: Law and Order: RIAA
Lars Ulrich will star as a gritty New York detective and John Amos will play the chief RIAA lawyer. "Since most file sharing cases are civil and only consist of serving subpoenas, we had to take some liberties much like the RIAA," said creator Dick Wolf.

Re:self merging cars,...From BBSpot's 'Which OS Are You?' Quiz:
You're driving on the freeway during rush hour, and traffic is at a crawl. You're in the far-left lane, but you need to get to the far-right lane to get your exit. Do you:
I don't drive
Courteously signal your lane change, checking your blindspot, waiting for a good samaritan to permit passage
Creep into the neighboring lane, scaring cautious drivers into giving you a wide berth
Come to a complete stop, turn on your hazards, get out and place emergency flares in a diagonal line across all four lanes
Roll down your window and instruct drivers to get out of your way with your bullhorn

Re:auger?Yes...but what does auger mean in this context? We all know what augur means...we're geeks.
Well, it might have been an honest question. The only reason I know what it means is from reading Asterix...
:)I find it harder to believe people are still bothering to complain about spelling mistakes in story submissions... everyone knows they're added deliberately!
(p.s. it seems the new version of the SSG doesn't all spelling errors in EVERY story...crapness.)

What if...... the user is a complete idiot? Will the computer learn to compensate, or will the artificial intelligence take on the "logic" (or lack thereof) of the user rather than constantly fix what s/he screws up?
Will the artificial intelligence become bitter and spiteful like human technical support? Will the computer evetually yell at the user one day, and get fired, go on a leave of absence, or quit, just like real tech support does after being in the job too long?
In other words, will there be Post Technical Support Disorder built into the AI?

Re:will slashdot be gone tomorow?SCO Sues AMD
Posted by brian on Mon August 25, 11:32 PM from the have fun hitting reload page dept. EvilMark writes "SCO says that AMD is using encryption technology that is the property of SCO. CEO Darl McBride said they acquired the technology from Pixar and plan to use it for groping my cousin. When asked about the lawsuit Albert Einstein said SCO is "smoking crack." From [link]

Re:And guess who'll get caught
Actually I was talking about the reverse engineering and unauthorized access in regard to the DMCA. In case you haven't heard, the US Air Force is already being sued for reverse engineering. But you're right, it's not as appropriate an application of the DMCA as protecting us from recycled toner cartridges is. What was I thinking?

Re:Give them the M.S.S. award!I definitely preferred BBSpot's MS-DoJ Settlement article:
President Bush was pleased with the news. "America must move ahead with the task at hand. Our country faces a great danger and with the help of Windows XP we can have an army of flying soldiers to help with the war on terrorism," said Bush.

No its from bbspot!!
And it was intended as a joke...

Life imitates art
Check out the announcement for Hardster... Just one week ago this was considered humor, now it is being proposed as a real idea. Coincidence? I think not.

Re:Unnecessary commentary?
It's not the editors' fault, it's just that final sentences like the above are inserted automatically by the Slashdot story generator.
