Celebrity Deathmatch
I was wondering....can we have a celebrity deathmatch between Linus Tovalds and Theo de Raad?
And who would win?
I do have a couple of promotional logos in mind though....

Cafepress.com
Cafepress.com offers to create a music CD (or data CD) for ya, similar to the way MP3.com did, 'cept you can do more customizing of the cover and disc. You can't download full songs, but you can stream samples of tracks.
Anybody find anything else out there to replace MP3.com, yet?

Re:Good
"the problem is that the spammers will probably move out of the country."
Or use more effective email marketing than spam. -
Re:Threat...
The most interesting thing about spam is that it's not very effective. Legitimate, opt-in email marketing opens you up to much better responses. At our company New Media Worx, we help people send email to opt-in lists they make themselves (i.e. not rented lists), which usually result in 10-50% click-through rates, as opposed to spam, which tends to get 0.2% for a really successful campaign.
If you want to know more about sending legitimate email marketing, check out my book, Email Marketing without the Spam.

My side of the story.Why Albion pissed me off so much Charles Booher Charles Booher 2 40 2003-11-23T05:39:00Z 2003-11-23T05:39:00Z 2 336 1920 16 3 2357 9.3821
Why Albion pissed me off so much.
My name is Charles Booher.
I downloaded Xupiter. Xupiter claimed that it is a Microsoft Product (a crime I have also committed with some of my software projects), but Albion Medical and VigRX made my life a living hell while I was trying to put together
http://www.cafeshops.com/usnoastronomy
and
http://www.cafeshops.com/genomicbiology
I am unemployed software engineer who was trying to extend and enhance the really wonderful science that the US Federal government supports at such web sites as http://aa.usno.navy.mil/ and http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/
I have always been afraid of doctors, hospitals, and the like and I had to endure two more cancer years in 1993 and 1996. I was treated at Stanford University Hospital and El Camino Hospital and I cannot say enough good things about the doctors and people who work at these places.
I have always had a fear of people wearing medical clothing. This fear goes back to my earliest childhood. Since getting cancer the first time in 1987 this fear has turned into a problem.
Imagine if you are a woman who has had a double mastectomy who is receiving intolerable amount of ads for fraudulent pills that enlarge breasts.
My computer was taken over by Albion Medical, VigRX, and xupiter for about three months. I needed my old email to support software that I used to offer as free downloads to people who wanted it. I was constantly bombarded with pictures of doctors and people wearing medical clothing and if I am not prepared for it.
Albion medical was popping up continuing spasm on my computer screen that showed pictures of doctors. Even when I see doctors on TV or in a movie theater I sometimes need to leave the room.
Albion Medical and VigRX sell nothing but fraudulent products, and Doug MacKay is a pathological liar.
I admit that I may have committed a criminal act. I am 100% certain that the US court system will fairly hear my case. If I am guilty of a crime then I will make restitution and do whatever I can to restore and make restitution for the damages I have done to the US government.

Re:Yawn,
I'm huge OpenBSD as anyone, works great on server and router, but for the desktop? Really? It's a great OS, but I say just use NetBSD or FreeBSD for your desktop.

Maybe this will spark interest in NetBSD
I see NetBSD as a great clustering platform. It's small, it's low in resources, and it's truly open source. The only thing is things like OpenMosix aren't there for NetBSD. Maybe someone will start developing a patch that does that kind of stuff.

Warlunching!
Finally, a motherboard that I can fit in a lunch box. Add in a micro drive, a mini-pci wireless card, and a usb gps and I'll finally have the warlunching rig I've always wanted. Heck, I'll even have room left over for a sandwich (which will no doubt be kept toasty warm).

What's the "offensive" part?
Je parle francais, but I wasn't able (ok, I wasn't willing) to get past the Flash opening at the link listed in the Register article:
Also in the Nanterre dock was Auchon, the giant department store chain, which sold the offending (and to non-French ears, offensive) CD. It escaped punishment for its offence of failing to inform the Alain Souchon fan that the CD was copy protected.
What's the part that's "offending to non-French ears"? Since the Register is a .UK outfit, it can't be simple Bush-bashing. Or is it the annoying Flash itself that's offensive? -

In keeping with the unique branding style . . .. . . introduced by the PR whizzes behind Total Information Awareness name and logo, this new effort will be called either "SkyNet" or "Die Carbon Units," and feature a logo of a Borg drone ramming chips into the head of a howling toddler.

Re:/. inconsequentialties
She may well be a good candidate. But if a large segment of her core constituency can't think past "she's hot! I wonder what she's wearing under those pants?", then her campaign is doomed before it starts.
Umm, her campaign is inconsequential and doomed before it starts, and everyone knows it (including her, I'm sure, although she won't -- and shouldn't -- admit it), so this whole
/. interview is just an exercise in frivolity. That being the case, there's no reason at all not to ask silly questions, and there's no point whatsoever in asking her her about the real questions, because (a) her answers don't matter and (b) they're not entertaining. How do I know they're not entertaining? They're on her web site.Note that I'm not slamming Georgy, she seems like a bright, thoughtful, determined and articulate person, and I think she probably has a great future in politics if that's what she wants to do. However, her future in gubernatorial-level politics is just that: future. Voters are not going to pick her, not even in this race where only a tiny constituency is required to win. Why? She's too young. It's not even a question of whether or not she could do the job, but of whether or not voters believe a 26 year-old could do the job. Most people older than her won't think she can, and most people her age and younger don't vote.
Frankly, in our TV-driven political system, she's probably too cute to win as well. Our politicians have to look good, certainly, and Georgy does look good, but she's the wrong king of good looking. Give her, say, 15 years and she'll still be a beautiful woman, but she'll look "elegant" rather than "cute".
I think what she's doing is great, and I hope she succeeds at raising a little awareness for her issues, and at beginning the process of building a political career that might someday give her a shot at the governorship. But, her campaign *isn't* serious, and therefore there's no reason we shouldn't have a little fun with it.
Speaking of frivolity, did anyone notice the Georgy for Governor Classic Thong? Betcha Gary Coleman doesn't have his own official campaign thong!

My ideal computer desk
If all goes well, I'll have my ideal desk shortly, and for free, too!
It's a 1950's era Steelcase desk. Weighs a ton and has a desk surface area approximately that of a small aircraft carrier.
What makes it idea is that it has a swingaway typewriter platform on the left side. Pull out and push down and the scanner will disappear inside the desk, behind a door. That's where the scanner will live and if there's enough clearance when the scanner is stowed, the 10 GB external SCSI drive will be stashed there as well.
On the desktop, there will be more than enough room for the PowerMac 5400/200, modem, speakers, mouse, telephone, LaserWriter, Palm cradle, Hello Kitty USB hub, CD rack, plastic file folder holders, red stapler, mug full of pens, coaster for the can of Red Bull, slide rule, calculators, diverse reference books and manuals, diverse desk tools, Initech mouse pad, et al, etc.
Now, to find a used Aeron chair for sale in the Boston area for US$150 or so.

Re:Well, it figures
Oh come on.
Words printed on an apparel is only a matter of opinion, at best; a biography intended to obtain attention and money is often not quite true; and laws here (US) sometimes make sense, sometime don't.
You proof doesn't really stand. "Laogai" in Chinese means "correction with labor" (lao: work, gai: change, reform), and working is mandetory for inmates, but does that make it "slave labor" if working condition is not inhumane (note I am not saying the working condition is good, just not enough reliable evidence to say otherwise)? Or is it better for the prison to be more like a vacation resort, where prisoners ass-rape each other to kill time, like in the US of A?
-
Re:Well, it figures
Any proof for child or slave labor there?
You're kidding right?
Fans of Chinese slave labor can buy apparel here. If you're not a fan you might consider supporting legislation such as this. If you don't know enough about the topic to decide whether or not you're a fan, do some reading. My government has. Well, enough to have formed a policy on the matter. If you're all about self-reliance, just feed the term Laogai into Google.
Enjoy your Chinese laptop.
