On the subject of ingame ads...
The worst ingame ads I have ever seen were those in Counter Strike 1.6: http://www.csnation.net/viewnews.php/8645/ The few screenshots there speak for themselves. Also, unlike in other games where you can avoid ads simply by running custom content, in CS 1.6 ads are automaticially placed on any texture area large enough. If this wasn't bad enough, the ads also can have no decals placed on them (bulletholes and blood), which is a huge problem in a game like CS where seeing blood on a wall is often the only way to indicate that you have hit the enemy successfully. I just wanted to share an example of how NOT to do ingame ads. Hellgate's ads seem fine in comparison, since they are only in the "Town" areas, which are just subways where you would expect to see the ads, and they make them blend in well. Although it is still BS if they are going to make you pay a monthly fee and show you ads, it should be one or the other.

Re: Linux pc's don't sell
Yeah like when you get banned on Steam for running their software on wine/cedega to play counter strike...
Or when you run it on Windows with bad RAM. Or if you ran generic applications. Or when Steam started banning people due to a glitch on the servers.
The response to them was the same as the response to the wine/cedega issue.yeah I love Linux.. Not.
Linux had fewer issues, so I don't understand your complaint. -

Re:If they can still play it...
"Alright, we can't have everyone pick Terrorist again this time. At least some of you will have to go CT"
From page two of cs in the gulf states:
All the players prefer to play terrorist rather than counter-terrorist--extrapolate what conclusions you will from this. At the map change, the cafe fills with the bleep-bleep-bleep of forty Emiratis rapidly pressing the "1" button for Terrorist, and they'll keep at it for a round or two, finally giving in to the inevitability that some will have to play CT.
I personally witnessed this attitude mirrored on Counter-Strike servers in the US just after 9/11.

MORE pullouts! Slamdance may collapse entirely!
Slamdance originally announced 14 finalists. They are currently down to 8 participating finalists.
Super Columbine was ejected.
Braid has pulled out.
Flow has pulled out.
Toblo has pulled out.
Once Upon A Time has pulled out.
Everyday Shooter has pulled out.
With nearly half of the finalists already gone, just a few more pullouts could cause a complete collapse of Slamdance this year.

It doesn't stop at 2...
Everyday Shooter, Toblo and Once Upon a Time have also pulled out.
This leaves the number of finalists at 8. leaving only ~60% of the original... -

Re:Counter-Strike 1.5 Server setup Howto-not
Two months or so ago, Valve announced that they were shutting down WON. A 1.5 mod for Steam has been released, though, and you can play it just fine - it's old CS without the hitbox/scope/etc bullshit, but you do still have to run Steam to play it. It include the HLDS server. It's about the only way to play 1.5 now.

probably not

All the info you need to know this is probably fake. -
This is probably incorrect
As noted on http://www.csnation.net/, this is not confirmed by Valve or Vivendi.

Re:Sounds good.
Actually, valve didn't make Condition Zero. Well, they did, and they didn't, and then they did again-- this does a better job of explaining than I. The Condition Zero that's out now was co-produced by Valve and Turtle Rock Studios. Some of the missions were created by Ritual, with whom Valve had also worked. Before that, Gearbox and Rogue each had a go at making it. At this point, it's probably a little difficult to determine how much work Valve specifically has been doing for the project, as opposed to how much they've paid other studios to do, or are just taking from the mod itself. Plus, Valve isn't in the business of releasing new stuff, they're in the business of making money, so your last comment is a little bit awkward.

CS: Source media and info
Well, my site is still suffering from a slashdotting from a few days ago, but check out CS-Nation's CS: Source info section for an FAQ and of course plenty of CS: Source media.
Shameless enough? Heh. -
Not to mention...
CS Player Ola "elemeNt" Moum's sale (or buying out of his contract) from Schroet Kommando (SK) to NoA.

Re:Response from another casual gamerCounter-Strike is a very newbie-friendly game (except for the cheats). Be sure to check out CS-Nation's Counter-Strike Guide for full info on how to play. Sorry to pimp my own site, but CS-Nation is a very popular Counter-Strike news and information source.
However, don't let anyone tell you how to play. Feel like sniping? Do it! Wanna have fun with pistols! Do so! Make CS fun to play for yourself. Just follow the objectives and from there you can find any niche.

This is easy!
1) Set up a private Counter Strike Server somewhere on the school LAN.
2) Get a laptop (with an 802.11g card in it, of course) and backpack for each crewmember.
3) Every crew member joins the game on their laptop, sets the laptop to never suspend, throws it in their backpack, and uses headsets to communicate with their team members!
Other than the sound of an explosion every three minutes or so, and the occasional "Terrorists Win!" all your communications problems are solved!
