me want...
To say that I want this is an understatement
;-). However, 5400 RPM seems a bit slow, especially if the price tag is a heft $285.
I mean, with that much space, I would also like faster seeks times. Additionally, the 2MB cache seems awfully small. I guess we have to wait for the special edition like in the Western Digitals, where only the special edition drives have the 8MB caches. DesignTechnica has a bit of information on this drive (family). Go here while Toms Hardware is un-slashdotted :-).

I hope the specs are wrong
I really hope the specs page is wrong. The 8.3"x8.3"x3.1" and 9 pounds is obviously wrong. But I hope the max compression rate of 128Kbps is incorrect or is referring to it's recording capabilities. I don't listen to mp3s at 128K. I always use variable bit encoding and let lame figure out what the best bitrate to use based on the audio.

Price, price, price
Apple's 12" Powerbook costs $1,600 ($1,400 for students), while the new Sony Vaio is expected to cost around $2,000. Even with the cheaper price, the Apple laptop gives you 10GB more hard drive space, and a larger screen, and OS X as well. The only advantage I see is the weight difference, as the Sony weighs 32% less than the Apple. As long as you don't have trouble lifting 4.6 pounds, go for the Apple.

Another solution forIf you want to listen to internet radio on your stereo, then what you need is (AudioTron) from TurtleBeach.
Here a Tom's Hardware Guide to Music Across Your Home Network
. Here are some reviews of the AudioTron Phataudio, DesignTechnica, Cnet and WhiningdogDesignTechnica gives it a 9/10.
Congrats on you new home. -
Good article on WarChalking here
Designtechnica.com has a fantastic article on War Chalking/driving that talks about a lot of this topic in detail.

Re:Who "certifies" this?
Read the fucking article. I cite: pass the rigorous certification process developed by the DivXNetworks team of video engineers.
I hope this clarifies the situation for you a little bit. -
Press Release
You can read the more detailed press release here. I wonder if the Clie's are even selling well?

more info
I saw the JackRabbit at Philips hotel suite, and can provide a little more info:
They eventually want to put in a DVD+RW drive in the unit.
The unit is meant to not only hook up to your computer, but to your TV as well via SVideo or Composite Video.
Here's a pic. -
Review of same drive at Designtechnica
Here is our review for those interested. we reviewed the same exact drive and were pretty impressed with it.

New Variation On A Bad Idea
This is a nice "Zaurus with graffiti"-esque look, but the screen is still the little tiny one found on all palms.
Except one. The Sony Clie NR70/V has a bigger screen, because instead of hiding the graffiti pad under some buttons, it's part of the screen. so, if you dont want graffiti pad, you get rid of it, and you've got more screen space. And with that integrated keyboard, you'll never need graffiti in the first place. -
I would preffer a laptop replacement
One of the bigest disadvantages for handhelds is the damn keyboard. The speed to input data, code or math functions is just to slow and painful with a stylus. I suggest that instead of a handheld a laptop replacement (see on designtechnica.com) would be the perfect tool for a student. Is not as expensive, bulky or huge as a laptop but also allows you to input data. Eightythree by Tiqit Computers

Wrong strategy
Microsoft needs to make sure the Xbox is a success in the US before planting it over seas first. No American console has been successful in Japan. Microsoft/Seamus Blackely should have known better. The Japanese like American trends/fads. If the Xbox was popular in the US for a while, Japan surely would have wanted it. Microsoft should have just waited and focused on one thing at a time.

oh, and one other thing (clever troll)
What's the deal with all the pseudo-latin branding in the tech industry lately? We've got ArsTechnica, ArsDigita, and apparently now DesignTechnica.
Honestly, what's next? DigitalArs(e)?

More about the ReplayTV 4000
I just read over here a little bit about the ReplayTV 4000. I think it looks pretty cool, but you can only buy it online through the company's site! I think Sonic Blue is making some terrible mistakes lately. ReplayTV is destined to fail AGAIN at this rate.

Do you know about Quantum computing?
I have been trying to post articles on Slashdot for a month now, but they are insistant on publishing other articles. I just posted an article on Quantum Computing. I think you will all enjoy it quite a bit. For those of you who do not know what Quantum computing is, the article explains it quite well. Here is the link . You can post comments on the article below it. Please tell me what you think.
