Re:Still think Wikileaks knows what they're doing?
America continually changing their story on how he died and dumping the body at sea as fast as possible before anybody could see it won't help how history sees this.
At the moment though, he's right. The American mentality is hard for the rest of the world to understand but "killing the bad guy" had people out on the streets firing guns in the air this week. Even Scott Adams blogged about how good it made him feel.
Sad really, but all too true (as the GP pointed out).

Re:Bullying.
Depriving you of a song because you can't afford it, is not the same as letting you suffer because you can't afford the treatment.
But if the medicine wouldn't exist without these companies, is it more evil to let the company go bankrupt, and stop it making new medicine?
And as someone who as worked with these companies, I assure you there are plenty of folks who don't give a rats arse about curing people.
I'm sure there are, but I'm also sure that the other type exists.
And are you sure that this new medicine is really is effective...
Some of it isn't, and the trials the companies run are often not ideal, and sometimes truly despicable. But some of the new medicine is effective
I think it would be better to make a system where either the testing of medicine is done by the government (to remove the possibility of bad studies, or over-interpretation), or where the entire drug discovery and testing is done by the government (to remove the drug representatives and their damaging effect on doctors prescription practice), but that system needs to be built first, and until that is done, the old system is all we have to find new drugs. -

Re:Apple proved you can gold plate unix
Easy. Many computer savvy people find the apple interface clumsy and difficult to use. The people who are using Linux are frequently computer savvy people and have thus chosen function over form. There will be no 'one true interface' until you give us all frontal lobotomies (which is how I feel trying to find things on OS X). Of course part of the problem with Linux is the people designing the interface are users, developers, engineers, not graphic artists, and so you get the Dilbert interface design.

Re:Best comic engineer? None of the above!
The correct answer is Wally, from Dilbert. He saved the Apollo 13 mission and invented the cursor. Easily, the answer to your question of
Which Comic Character Is The Greatest Engineer?
Wow! I always thought it was Dilbert, not Wally. But that changes things. You gotta admit, though, that Dilbert is pretty good. Maybe 2nd best, now that the facts are out.

Re:This is really good news...You're replying to a sig? What a fucking loser. I'm also pretty sure you're replying with someone elses sig.
Also, you don't know a fucking thing about me and you failed to really get what the sig is saying. I would gladly pay taxes if I felt that it wasn't going to be used to wage pointless wars (this coming from a military vet) and if I got anything out of the socialist programs they institute. Instead, we get American style welfare, where the successful pay and get nothing and those who don't pay shit get everything. You may now return to your mother's basement you fucking liberal binarian twit. I have never actually read any Rand, but considering how it makes fucking idiots like you froth at the mouth I might start quoting her everywhere, even when it's not relevant. Oh, and since we're being retarded here...Guaranteed! This comment 100% Intelligence free!
FTFY.

Every business function (but IT) are professional liars.
"We can set up the new site under budget."
-
Re:why are putting up with this shit?
That should say screwing with customers.
Every business function (but IT) are professional liars. The world is sucking it up advertising and marketing as how society should be. The "cheaters" are winning. We're the grudgers but we're acting like suckers!
Our society is being selected for bullshit over honesty. Why are we letting this happen?

Re:Save 30%?
It's indeed just a thought experiment. To understand it and put it in perspective you have to read some of his older blog posts, like about taxation: http://dilbert.com/blog/entry/taxation/
and he has a few about cheapatopia: http://dilbert.com/blog/entry/cheapatopia__internet/
which could be compared with some kind of commune. He also has some posts about solving US deficit, healthcare, ..Most of them are similar - you give up part of your privacy/individual choices and there are benefits for the whole group. When looking at a macro-economic scale there are advantages for the whole community.
Large healthcare costs for older people can be reduced if people are monitored (and get better food, sport, ..) when they're young. There can be huge reductions on basic living expenses if some things are done on a global scale instead of individual. Food can be cheaper if bought in bulk - so let the commune order and cook instead of everyone individually. There are many more examples like this in his posts..
But everything is indeed very one-sided, utopian. Capitalism and greed are never far away and his ideas can easily be misused.

Re:Resistance is futile
Interesting topic - just read Dilberts blog about this:
http://dilbert.com/blog/entry/seeing_the_past/and while having no privacy at all is a weird concept, it'd indeed make for some cool apps like he says.
Problem with this (and yoru homeowners example) is that it's never black or white. Most people don't really fit in a category, and the question is always where do you draw the line ? How does one decide your neighbour is a lunatic (if he really was then he would be in a mental institution) or just behaves a bit weird sometimes or is just not social ?
