Terrible link on that. The author just quotes passages where Pelosi makes sensible and civilized statements, and then he calls her a liar, and in the ultimate act of hypocrisy, while criticizing her for using the word "un-american", compares her and Obama to Hitler. The only thing you can take away from that is that the author really hates Pelosi and Obama, and has a tenuous grip on reality.

This is also a terrible link. Reid complained that town hall meetings accomplish little because the shouting and nutty antics by under medicated right-wingers get in the way of any true dialog. So he then decides to have a different type of meeting. The article seems to imply he is a hypocrite because of that.

As for him using the word "evil monger", I suppose he did, and that is an incredibly stupid thing to say. I would say that the people shouting "socialism", showing up with firearms, (and the suburban white girl who showed up at a Barney Frank meeting and thought it was a good idea to describe a gay jew as a Nazi), are misinformed, and robbing the debate of all dignity.

The first link you provided is full of lies and opinions (for instance, Pelosi DID WITNESS swastikas and Hitler references in the town hall meetins, she didn't make it up) and it's just so full of bullshit right-wing propaganda it cannot be in any way considered to be worthy of "insightful" moderation. Also, a nice interpretation of polling numbers, saying "76% of Democrats favor the proposal and 76% of Republicans are opposed." Not caring to mention that only 20% of Americans self-identify as republicans (can't bother to back up with a link since I am just as trustworthy as the link you provided, and I'm being serious).

In every other country with a single payer system, you just go to a doctor and get treatment. In most countries you don't even have to fill out any paperwork. And they pay about half of what we do, and have the same life expectancy.

If Canada's health care is so great why are Canadian members of government coming to the US for surgery?

And there isn't rationing in the US right now? The difference is that Belinda Stronach would have gotten the surgery in Canada in a medically useful time-frame (perhaps not as soon as she wanted though), but a US citizen without either health insurance or money to pay out-of-pocket wouldn't be able to get the surgery. Unless of course they were on Medicare or Medicaid, but I suppose you would be against the very existence of such programs. Unless there was some specific treatment that wasn't available in Canada, but was available in the US (unlikely but possible) the same could be said for Robert Bourassa.

Oh and by the way, both of them could have done the same thing by going to the UK instead of the US. The UK has private for-profit healthcare providers, as well as a government-run system. Most probably, the main reason why they didn't go to the UK has to do with the difference in travel costs, not the difference between the level of medical care in the US and UK.

It was provided to you because hospitals are required by law in the US to stablize and treat emergency cases until hospitalization is no longer medically required, regardless of the of the patient to pay. If that wasn't a legal requirement, many hospitals wouldn't have let you on their property, as few modern hospitals are non-profit.

Though the US version seems ripe for abuse, it still seems more sensible than the UK version, and I don't think the US version is totally unreasonable. Take the recent holocaust museum shooting... a white man murders a black guard in an attack on a symbol of Judaism. Clearly it was a hate crime - not against blacks, even though that's the only person he murdered - but against Jews. But he didn't just think about hating Jews, he took forcible action to terrorize them, so I can at least see the rationale in some extra punishment for that, on top of murdering a guy.

Speaking of the murder of the guard, cop killers get harsher sentences too, likely including death, since cops represent a symbolic group with extra risks - in other words, a hate crimes. I wonder if all those against special protections for minority groups are also against harsher penalties for killing cops, assassinating heads of state, etc?

First of all, in the USA, there is no requirement to "register your flight" with the FAA at all. You don't have to call up the police and request permission or register your planned trip to drive your car from your home to the shopping mall, or go on a pleasure drive, do you?

If you're a private pilot and have your own plane, you can pretty much, for the most part, just simply hop in it, and take off to go fly whenever you please. You do not need to seek permission from the government to go fly.

Now there are some limitations and exceptions. Large airports, and even smaller ones with great volumes of air traffic do have control towers, which exist solely for the purpose of imposing order and safety on the sequencing of arriving and departing aircraft. The Tower is a traffic cop who controls permission to enter a runway for takeoff and also for permission to land on a runway at that particular airport. There is also "Ground Control" who is in charge of controlling aircraft movements on the taxiways. These exist to help prevent collisions from happening.

In larger cities' airports, there may also be "Approach" and "Departure" air traffic controls to help sequence the air traffic flowing into and out of the airport regional area.

Most small general aviation airports do not have, nor do they need these. At these airports, the pilot general self-announces his intentions over the radio just to let other pilots who are coming and going to that airport know who he is, where he is, and what he's doing. There's not even any real legal requirement to do that. You can keep your radio off and talk to no one. You just get in your plane and fly. And that is perfectly legal.

And furthermore, the FAA regulations actually state that it's up to the pilot to determine for himself whether or not there are any severe weather conditions or hazards before he begins his flight. As a pilot, it's totally up to you to plan and prepare for your own flight.

Now Steve Fossett was a very skilled and knowledgeable pilot. He knew exactly what kinds of treacherous winds existed in that mountainous terrain environment. He was well trained and skilled for handling them too... except sometimes in mountain flying, the winds can abruptly get so crazy without warning that they can catch even the most seasoned veteran mountain-flying pilot off guard and swat his airplane down into the ground like a giant flyswatter on a mosquito. Mountain flying has a hugely great element of danger to it. It is horribly unforgiving, even if you're an expert at it. Even one of the most famously skilled and respected mountain pilots, Sparky Imeson, who wrote the "Mountain Flying Bible", died himself in a mountain-flying crash earlier this year.

I was wrong about the correlation being negative, but I was not wrong about the correlation. But one thing pointed out in your video, that solar activity has not corresponded to temperature in just the last few years, is totally meaningless. Long-term trends are the only ones that matter. Not everyone opposes nuclear power because of some nebulous fear. Ask the Navajo about the impact of uranium mining on the Navajo Reservation. Or some First Nations in Canada. Or the Aboriginals in Austrailia. Ask France about the nuclear spills there.

Since Satya Harvey is listed as the "SF Astrology Examiner" I think it is likely that she is serious. She also posted a follow up.

In her follow-up, she explains that she does not think that science is the only way that knowledge is revealed to people. She is entitled to her opinion, of course, but that does not mean that we have to agree with or respect it. The beauty of science is that it is something of an amorphous blob. If it turns out that astrology does reveal things about the universe that current science cannot observe, science will hungrily scoop it up and make it a part of itself.

They seem to actually CAUSE safty issues as I've seen a red-light camera that resulted in a rear-end collision when someone suddenly stopped on YELLOW because they were afraid of the camera. What they REALLY need to do is legthen the RED light before the next goes green... That way all vehicles have exited the intersection if they actually were "in the yellow".
