Re:$500
But can you Game and Watch?
-
Re:'entry'
game & watch wasn't a wrist watch, they were two or three fold lcd games.
linky! -
Re:Honestly...One nifty thing about the split screen is that it gives the DS a similar aspect to the old Nintendo dual-screen arcade games, like the original Punch-out!! and Playchoice 10. I wonder if that's where they got the idea?
Actaully the ds reminds me of these a lot. I remember owning one of these - they were fun.
I'm glad they are coming back, 2000 style. Perhaps I can have my children have the same kind of fun I used to.

A cool idea
I think nintendo should make a cartridge with emulations of a couple of those old multi screen game 'n' watch games they had. If you don't know what I'm talking about, here's an example. You can see others on Gameandwatch.com, just click on "multiscreen" on the menu.
Hell, if they don't do it, I might just have to waste my time programming it myself once somebody gets together a free dev-kit for the DS. -

Re:looks rather old
I'm seeing a direct parallel to those old handheld computer game "consoles" from about 10 to 15 years ago.
I assume you mean the Nintendo Game and Watch.
Will I be able to play that King Kong game thing?
You mean Donkey Kong? Yes. -
Re:Back to the beginning
Yeah, the Game and Watch. Its truely uncanny
:)
piccy -
Wrong name
It should called 'Game and Watch'
clicky for piccy -
Re:Yes, I must have one...
With 2 screens, they can finally do that faithful Donkey Kong Game & Watch conversion that we've all been wating for.

The DS looks rather like an old Game & Watch.
This isn't the first time Nintendo has used the over-under screen combination for a portable game. In fact, the first time this layout was used was in 1982 in one of the old Game & Watch games. Amusingly, a version of Zelda was even released in this configuration.
Also worth mentioning is the fact that a multi-screen G&W was also the first Nintendo system to debut the d-pad, the little cross-shaped directional control that replaces an un-thumbable joystick. More than 20 years later it has been copied by everybody and is still used on every console you can buy at SuperTarget.

Re:GAME & WATCH LIVES!!!
Yes it really does. Just look at this.

Game & Watch
Judging by the layout it looks like Nitendo got inspiration from its old 'Game & Watch' game systems. For Nintendo the concept of a dual screen game system is certainly nothing new, though this time you aren't limited to one game. I see it as a fusion of Gambeboy and 'Game and Watch'.

Deja vu?
Wathch out.. the early eighties are back, at least as far as casedesign is considered...
Mind you, there isn't too many ways to pack dual screens into a handheld unit in - and the clamshell will help protect the screens, unlike on my GBA.
As for wether it'll flaot or sink... it depends on many factors, not least price and avilability of games that require two screens.

I found one at home, and it's still working to this day, keeps me from being bored. -
Karma whoring...
There are some pics at Game & Watch. Screens are in vertical as well as horizontal alignment.

Sounds familiar
Can you say Game and Watch? Hopefully the graphics will be a little better.

Game & WatchThe designer says:
That was where the basic flip-top design came from. It's something that's never been done with game machines before, so I liked the idea right off.Anybody remember the Game & Watch?

As a former watch collector / gadget freakFor ages I was a big fan of Swatch Access, but here in Perth, Australia I never got to actually use the features. My current favourite watch that I own is a Casio WristCam -- the original black and white version. If I didn't already have this version I'd probably buy the new colour one. So instead the watch that's temping me is Casio's GPS watch, having dropped in price from A$1395 to A$899. If I had a job I'd have bought it a week ago when I first noticed the price had come down.
Funny thing is, I don't wear a watch anymore, not since I got my first mobile phone. Most of my friends are the same. (Actually, come to think of it, if you're after something funky and you don't need it on your wrist, the re-released Nintendo MiniClassics -- Game & Watch -- clip on a belt loop nicely. Try www.gameandwatch.com for some info.)
