Re:game vs. art resolution
Maybe they were recreating one of the handheld 'game and watch' versions. To be honest, that's what I think of when soemone mentions Donkey Kong. My friends and I rarely had spare cash to spend at amusement arcades, but we could get the handheld games for christmas etc.

Re:Arcade game
Ah wait, I think this was it:

Yup, that's the one.
Seems it was '91 not '86 (Junior High and High school were a blur - the key word being high). -
Donkey Kong
Here is another classic dual screen handheld from Nintendo: Game & Watch. Would be cool if they ported this to the new DS.

Re:Game & Watch, please
The dual-screened Game & Watch version of Donkey Kong was the best!
Every time I open my DS I'm reminded of that game. It and Snoopy Tennis entertained me on long car rides... and when the batteries died you could push on the LCD screen for some cheap entertainment. -

Magic CIA button
Actually, what amuses me more are those shows where bringing up this clarification of pictures requires reqpeatedly hitting the enter key. Honestly, wouldn't the process at least be automatic? ^_^ I can just see the job listing:
Help Wanted - CIA Computer Operator - No prior experience operating computers necessary. Must be able to attain a high score of over 9,000 on Decathlon -
Time Traveler, Sega, 1991
Does anyone remember this game Time Traveler from Sega I never played it, but I recall it being a holographic video game.

Re:it's true
But I haven't seen an analog watch that can play Pacman yet.

Ugly
It's an ugly beast. That latest pic bears more than a passing resemblence to the original Game&Watch dual screen games.

Re:Remembering..
I feel like *such* a nerd... once I read this I wanted to see it right away. Anyway, for the rest of you, The Pac Man watch. I'm not even sure, I may have played with it sometime in the past.

game and watch folded too...
Heh, reminds me of some of the old dual screen game and watch...
...well, better that than Virtual Boy! -
The article in question
from the Bill France article:
The broken record would be about violence, and it would seem that the warnings have all been issued.
But, try these three points for starters:
- If a parent wanted their children to develop attitudes like Gary Ridgway, the confessed killer of at least 48 women, these games might provide a good training ground.
Okay, so the Green River killings started in July 1982, according to cnn. Instead of offering reasons as to how Gary Ridgway developed his mindset and the various warning signs related to a confessed serial killer, Bill France decides to warp this into a video game issue. Therefore, let's see what games may have inspired the rampage. Perhaps he was re-enacting a twisted version of his experience in Lasso? Or Naughty Boy?
If you need to speculate, look at the guy's history and work from there. The quickest article I could find is here. Interesting that the article states:
... by the time Ridgway and his second wife divorced in 1981, but coworkers remember Ridgway carried a Bible,...
You see that! And this was JUST BEFORE THE KILLINGS! Now go and speculate! -
Re:Vice City was the first GTA, not.
Yeah and, they were all predated by Digital Derby. Bunch of Johnny-come-latelies.

Re:Small claims court for cabinet owners?
Remember, Universal is a part of the IDSA as well, not just because of Blizzard, but Universal themselves made 31 Coin-Op Games in the 1980s. and we all know how lawsuit happy Universal is.
"Universal vs Nintendo & Coleco"
"Universal vs. Sony"
"Universal vs MP3.COM"
And the list goes on and on. -
Re:Well respected?Agreed. I watched people pump quarters into it but could never understand why... it was just as fun to stand there and watch someone else play.
Now the real landmark game IMO, was Mach III. With laserdisc backgrounds and computer generated targets, it was slightly more challenging than Battlezone, and much more visually stunning. I was a starving college student when it came out, but I pumped at least $20 a week into that machine just to get my daily adrenaline fix.
That and Centaur. Man, those were the days when pinball machines rocked.
