Re:It's near performance already
Firstly, it's disappointing to see the parent post modded 5, when most of that was discussed in my previous post. Of course, I'm not pointing a finger at you DarkBlackFox.
How about momentum and gravity going down a hill?
This falls under regenerative breaking, and was discussed in my previous post.
If I'm not mistaken, internal combustion engines are far more practical for automobiles than electric motors (given efficiencies, torque/speed curves, etc, although I'm not entirely sure how hydrogen engines compare to gasoline on this front)
Electric motors provide maximum torque at 0rpm, this is ideal for automobiles. Furthermore, they require no gearboxes (not a plus for us manual transmisson lovers, but it's a big benefit for automatic transmission users).
but it's interesting to see electric energy applied towards generating fuel for combustion, rather than electromechanical motion.
The use of hydrogen for combustion is missing the big point of hydrogen fuel. You can pass it through a fuel cell creating only water as a byproduct, whereas using it in combustion still creates NOx. Furthermore, it is also more efficient to use a fuel cell, as explained here:
In stark comparison, fuel cells running on pure hydrogen are dramatically more efficient. By harnessing the fuel's energy via a chemical reaction rather than combustion, a fuel cell can convert 40-65% of hydrogen's energy into electricity. While a hydrogen-burning IC engine pollutes less than one running on gasoline, its energy efficiency is still less than half that of a fuel cell.
My question then becomes, how much hydrogen can be produced using the amount of power stored in batteries in current hybrid/electric cars?
Not very much. Inefficiencies would make this a ludicrous method to power a vehicle. Furthermore, hydrogen is best used in a fuel cell, not in combustion. Fuel cells are used to run electric motors, and hence, it's advantageous to not use batteries to electrolyse hydrogen only to use that hydrogen in the production of electricity again. -

Spaced Out Tourists
Last one into space is a rotten egg!
No thanks. I think I'll wait until there is an actual destination before going into space. Let me know when you find the dimensional rift that leads to Utopia and I'll sign up then. I would love to see Utopia! Oh my. I bet it's got lots of systems in it that can play Doom 3 in Ultra mode. :-)
I'm now positive that Lance Bass is finally going to go to space. Mentally the guy is already there! He was going to pay $20mil to go to space, and now all the dregs of society can do it for merely $100k. Oh poor Lance! Well at least he can go now. -
Major road block: missing grammar proofing tools
That's right, many of you hate to use the G-word, but the fact is there are no (viable) grammar checker in open source world. Although there are several attempts to make one, they look more like APIs for users to build grammar checkers instead of the actual proofing tools, and the lack of inclusion by open source office suite deal a major blow for the adoption of the alternative office suites.
There are always the macho outbursts of 'we don't need stinking grammar checkers!' But the truth is, when spell checkers first came out, this was exactly the kind of attitude people had, and such attitude doesn't help for many of you who need a resume to secure jobs. Having a robotic proofing tool means errors won't be overlooked, which people tend to do from time to time. There may be other obstacles to overcome before wide spread adoption of open source office suites, but when it comes to important features, lacking grammar checker is one of the biggest issues. -

Exactly what math?
Exactly what math do you want to do?
Go see:
SPEC FPU results
Look at the details, you'll see that different processors have different strengths depending on the tasks. To see what tasks they are you can look at:
SPEC FPU
Another thing the Intel compiler does work well for AMD too. But you may have to force it to recognize it as AMD to turn on even more optimizations. Apparently you get a boost as a nonIntel CPU, but if you disable the "intel-only" detection you can get even more of a boost. -
Re:Turing test
Works perfectly!
Top 3 is our 3 favorite local shops, Joey's, Caz's and Stoyle's. Not in our preferred order of course (Stoyle's is best), but Google can't be expected to know that (yet).
Now I just need a "Download location to in-car navigation system" button. -

Works well
I've already tried this in my home town of Winnipeg to find Tim Hortons and bank teller locations... map functions works great.
There are still some bugs though. Searched for sex shop, got a link to Childrens Wish Foundation of Canada (seriously) -
Re:Local, eh?
Next time you're in town, try the Banquise, the best poutine around.
:) -
Re:Local, eh?
You can find poutine in almost any place that sells food in Quebec.
You'd think so, but not quite. I actually had a hard time finding poutine in downtown Montreal when I was last there -- had to check a half dozen restaurants before I found it. It's easier to find it in Vancouver BC, just a few blocks from my house and oh so tasty. =)
(this new local.google.ca rocks) -
Re:Turing testI Tried That.
The results?
A local medical clinic, A restaurant 3 hours away, a chip shop 3 hours away, A dermatologist in annother city, a shopping mall in annother city, a brewery, a local BnB, 2 more restaurants 3 hours away, and a lawyer.
Oh, by the way, the local chip shop is across the street from my office.

:And the list goes on....
Moral of the story : It's still a search engine, never hurts to refine your search

quid pro quoWatch out for the creep of DMCA laws in your own country
You got that right! In return for joining Bush's coalition of the willing, Australia's reward was a free trade agreement with the US. But before that takes effect, Australia has to harmonize their copyright and IP laws with those of the US - including an Australian version of the DMCA and software patents.
Don't take my word for it - read about it here -

Try using Google!
There are a lot of open source editor does pretty much your program can do and more. In fact, W3C have been making Amaya for years! For Windows apps, you should watch out for FCKeditor and Nvu.
As you can see, the problem of pirating apps (in your case, Net Weasel) is that there are too many people trying to do the same thing. With some of them willing to do it for free, how can shareware authors compete? Small developers, being low on financial resource, have to find ways other than software sales to fund their works. It affects big developers too, except it would take longer. -

(semi-)automatic AK-47'sThe "assault weapon" ban only covers semi-automatic rifles, you still won't be able to buy an AK-47...
AK-47's can be 'civilianized' down to semi-automatic. (and, apparently, can also be easily re-converted back to full auto once you purchase them). Even if you don't go the criminal route of converting it to full auto, your grandmother (or grandchild) can still do massive ammounts of damage with a semi-automatic AK-47.
1 AK-47
1 twist-tie
1 metal file (optional)
gun assembly tools (dunno -- don't own one)
and lots of ammunition -

I am neither a cad designer, nor an aerospace engineer, and cannot help build the DaVinci project (almost entirely volunteer driven). Full text search engine?I like the Catfish namazu.org <-- google cache ( thats catfish in japanese ).
It has multiple 'filters' that allow you to index
.txt .doc and various other file formats. It also has some grep like command line utilities that allows you to 'grep' for text.Oh, and it has a perl front end for apache, and IIS. ( win32 installer available from here: www.namazu.org/windows
caveat: As with any full text search engine, the files should be reindexed on a regular basis, but this is worth it as the searches are very fast even with gigs of documents.
enjoy

Another stupid ask slashdot
AAnother stupid ask slashdot that easilly answered by a simple google search. Searching for free antivirus software windows brings up many choices, the first being AVG, one of the best antivirus around. How lazy do you have to be not to search google? People like this don't deserve to use the net.

Re:Not a negative choice"The Powerbooks haven't been defective." Wow, how completely and utterly WRONG. Links below.
What about the huge issue with motherboards on Powerbooks, the ones which would sizzle and die? How about the LCD problem a couple of months ago? I'm not dreaming these problems; I've got no problems with people who use Apple computers, but I *do* have a problem with such users who think that there have never been any problems with the hardware.
Read some examples here if you don't believe me. Google cache of Flaming 'Books too

Re:Where Sender ID fits into the picture
SPF (http://spf.pobox.com) is the current email authentication protocol that is dominating the world.
SPF is dominating nothing. It's a neat idea, but the way the SPF people are pushing it is purely ludicrous. The email experts of the world are not onside, I'm sorry to say. Reasons? SPF champions are making fools of themselves by saying that everyone should adopt SPF, and non-adopters are also the kinds of people who support spam and open relays. Totally wrong. The SPF people are also pushing a crazy solution to envelop path rewriting, that will never work due to overcomplexity. The SPF community has to understand that SPF is (1) not a solution to spam, (2) can offer limited protection of domain use but only if it is purely optional - not pushed on everyone. SPF just won't work with some domains. -

Why ReiserFS is worth using
Earlier this summer I posted this article on USENET describing why ReiserFS is an incredible file system. That was version 3, so I'm curious how version 4 improves on this. Stability is key and v3 has reached stability. We can expect v4 to take longer, so be ready for growing pains -- but I'm very optimistic about ReiserFS in general. I think Hans has the right idea about what a filesystem 'should' do!

Mr. Burns: Yes, but you have to give it back.
Homer: Mr. Burns, I think we can trust the president of Cuba

Mr. Burns: Can I have the Textbook back?
Castro (who puts it in his pocket): What Textbook?
