Re:That is just plain silly
But, its like towing your car with a horse.
Not really-
With todays advanced micro electronics it's possible to create a matrix of keys each one programmed to output the morse equivalent of an alpha-numeric character. This way the sender only has to press one key one time to send a character... In fact the system could be set up so that the receiving computer automatically decodes the morse and displays it on the screen as plain text.
See, morse is for Everybody!
PS I wouldn't bother patenting that though. -
rechargable onesI saw a recharger at a retail store today and was thinking to myself how much waste it would reduce by using rechargeable ones
Ahh... if only there was such a thing as rechargeable ones. Remember, "A one that is not cold is scarcely a one at all."

It's like going back in time!
The SCO litigation obviously has enough bite to warrant a significant SCO stock response
We'll start by going back to 1999, when some people still thought that stock bubbles were necessarily a reflection of reality.
a reassessment by IT consulting firms
Now we're traveling back to the early 1990s, when some people still thought of Gartner as an independent research group and not the corporate equivalent of those magazine advertisements that masquerade as articles.
and some hesitation by the corporate world
And finally we're back to the 19th century, when only the evil Communists would suggest that our corporate benefactors might not be beacons of the bold leadership necessary to steer modern society.
This time travel trip has been brought to you by tabdelgawagad... tabeldawg... fhqwhgads?
the big Linux players (IBM, Red Hat, the Kernel developers and maintainers) seem to have decided that ignoring or belittling the SCO threat is the best approach.
The best approach is to wait until SCO decides what it's claiming and takes the claims to court, then defeat them there. Suing SCO for their current copyright violations in distributing Linux kernels without a GPL-compatible license strikes me as the second best approach, but maybe I'm just petty.
Well, it's not working!
It's not? My Linux installation still seems to be working just fine; in fact Mozilla in particular is performing extra-well, accessing a new entertainment section on Slashdot: the SCO soap opera. -

Re:Plotting against Microsoft
Does it even have scripting for stuff like HSR's endless easter eggs? SVG is probably more suitable to the likes of Homesar.
-
Plotting against Microsoft
If this SVG patch became fully useable for displaying animation, and then you could convince a really popular animation site (say, HSR) to switch to SVG and recommend a switch to Mozilla for native support... well, then, open source could rule the world.

Re:ah... famicon
Before anyone in my neighborhood got their Nintendos I had a 2600. We blew on those cartridges, too. Also, they had these two little spring loaded prongs that had some mechinical significance to the insertion of the cartridge. Anyway, I was convinced that if you pushed those prongs in a couple of times it did something to clean the cirucuits on the inside of the cartrige.
River Raid needed to be prong-cleaned every time I wanted to play it. Adventure always worked. That's a damn shame since I remember having a dream where that freakin' duck chased me to my grandma's house and bit my ear. I woke up and had an earache and wanted to sleep with my parents. -

Simple Solution
More artists are going to have to offer their creative works themselves. I decided to put all of my former band's work as well as stuff I'm working on now up for free (the site is 8x7.org if anyone cares), and I have actually started getting interest from other bands I know that want to contribute their music for free. The truth is that the chances that you are going to see any real profit off of a recording is slim to none, so why not just let people listen to it for free? Most musicians make money off of live gigs and merchandising, so why not cut out the middleman (the recording industry) entirely?
The same thing goes for other content. Look at Homestar Runner. They offer the content for free, and make money off of the merchandise - its a great formula. Just this week they introduced a set of figurines, and in the first day brought in over $15,000! -
Not can do, but should do?
Here comes the barrage of "proving they can do it without considering if they should do it" posts. Well, here's a good reason why I'd want to clone mammoths: They'd make great pets. Kind of like Porno for Pyros would. Except that their prohibitive size would mean you'd probably have to hire a poopsmith just to clean up after the fucker!

Re:yes, but it's spelled M-o-z-i-l-l-a
Mozilla; yes of course.
1. Popup blocking.
2. Block images by server (waiting for block Flash by server ...)
3. Tabbed browsing.
4. Bookmark groups of tabs.
With Firebird, there's a nice extension for blocking Flash, though not by server. Flash click to view is an extension that replaces Flash objects with a button that you click to view them. So it effectively allows you to block annoying Flash ads, but still watch Strongbad. -
The Best Thing About Tron...
Is that instead of just deleting old programs, you can throw frisbees at them and they'll disappear. For once, you'll be able to have as much fun deleting files as Strong Bad[homestarrunner.com].

For the Strong Bad-impairedI have to reply to my own post to protect my dignity.
Yes, everyone, I realize there are ways across the ocean. Chunnel, ferry, etc.
There's a chance you haven't seen this and therefore didn't get the reference.
;)(If you haven't seen it and you watch it and get hooked on it and spend lots of time clicking all over the entire site to find all the funny bits, it isn't my fault .

I suppose...
Broken Saint's animation is cool, but the story bores me I'm afraid to say. (I think I just get tired of reading and wish they included a voice audio).
I also wish they had a "play the whole story" button, it's a pain waiting for their lovely, but ultimately time wasting graphics as I navigate between episodes. And before you say anything yes, I am aware they provide zipped copies of the episodes for download and easy viewing (I think this is very nice of them).
In my book the best flash animation site has got to be this one. I just wish new episodes were made available a little more frequently.

Nostalgia
Dumb-ass pointless crap like this makes me long for the early days of the Internet, when sites like The Hampsterdance were still worth visiting.
(sigh)
Oh, well... at least we still have StrongBad.

If you had write access to \WINNT\System32 (where logon.scr resides) you were probably logged in with admin privileges already, so what's the point?

Re:Yeah.
The real question is, what happens if the Burninator attacks the travelator?
Oh, the humanity.... -
Re:Or...25 cents buys you 57 frames, which is equivalent to about two weeks of a comic in a newspaper, including the sunday edition. Or if you consider that the newspaper i used to get had four or five good comics, it's the equivalent of three or four newspapers worth of comic.
Of course there's still the question of whether or not it's a good comic. Based off of what i can see in the preview, well, i dislike flash in comics. If you're doing movies like HomestarRunner that's fine, but if i'm reading a comic i want the frames to hold still damn it! And i want to be able to jump back in in the middle if i'm not done with a sequence when i leave off.
The art style is okay i guess, but certainly nothing stellar. However the preview tells us jack shit about the story. Maybe we're supposed to be interested because it says "sex" and "for mature readers"?

Re:intro blurb
if you amalgamate the whole 'net I'm not totally convinced it's worth the $50 DSL fee....
Oh, nonsense.
What about Tape leg?!?!?
(Actually, Strong Bad is super dope and very much so worth my while. Dragon has become the next AYBABTU. Wether that is good or not is up to you.) -

Re:Hate Flash too - Re:As much as I hate to say it
Unfortunately there are too many programmers out there who feel the same way you do. You have to realize that good code/content is only one half of what makes an application/webpage good. The other half is presentation.
If you ask me, there are way too many coders out there who seriously underestimate UI. We need more designers in our field and a lot less l337 h4x0rz. You can see it in most of the websites out there. Either some liberal arts joker creates an uber-fancy Flash site that's impossible to navigate, or an engineer throws together a disgusting, utterly boring white-text-on-black-background POS.
Every once in a while, though, someone surprises me and gives me hope for the future of IT. -
Re:Here's a condensed history of Darwin...
... Like, when we finally got OS X working, we used it to write a paper, but it was, like, 2002, and everybody was like "BEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEP, I wanna listen to techno!", so we, like, reinvented the walkman and the jukebox in one fell swoop, then brought the music industry into the twenty-first century almost as an afterthought, but people still think we're dying! And it was a really good paper. Oh well, guess I'll just go fly my plane.

Come on, fhqwhgads.
Man, fhqwhgads, you're just making yourself look worse, you know? I mean, everybody's just gonna feel sorry for you. I mean, I do.

Re:What the Hell!?!
I honestly had to pause the last episode until I stopped laughing... the sad thing is I was telling a [fellow geeky] friend the next day about it, and he asks, "what's a Trogdor the Burninator?" I think he works too much.
WHOA! I was just Googling, and had no idea there was a TROGDOR GAME. -
What the Hell!?!
You can play as Sid the Dummy, but NOT as
TrogDor the Burninator
What gives? -
