The Big Bang -is- The Big Crunch
How about this... the universe is collapsing on itself. As we speak. But it's also expanding. It just depends on your frame of reference.
To explain this in the easiest way I can, I'm going to have to move from the multidimensional to the more easily understood dimensions. Save you have a sphere.
http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/2081/asphereft7.j pg
That sphere has a top, and a bottom. Assume that at the top of that sphere, water is formed. This water will want to flow down that sphere to the very bottom of that sphere. In the case of our simple world - due to gravity, and gravity wants those water droplets to flow ever-faster toward that bottom, etc... ignore this bit about gravity except for the ever-faster.. they accelerate.
Now let's say you slice this sphere into strips going from the top, to the bottom. Like fancy orange peels.
http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/928/aslicedsphe rejxd8.jpg
Now if you uncurl all those strips, and align them all together at the top, you get a sort of radial spokes system of peels. The more strips you made, the cleaner the result, but what it comes down to is this. The top point of the sphere is still a point. But the bottom point of the sphere is now no longer a point - it is part of a large circular shape in a disc.
http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/6959/anunfolded spherexj8.jpg
So if we had the same water droplets going from the top of the sphere to the bottom of the sphere, in this new disc-shape projection, then from the frame of reference of the top point - the center of the disc - the drops of water would appear to be continually diverging and accelerating outward. The Big Bang.
But here's the kicker. If you uncurl the strips and align them all together at the bottom and repeat the same thing - then a bunch of scattered around water droplets would appear to be accelerating towards it, and converging. The Big Crunch.
Just a thought - probably not original, but I don't remember reading anything on the subject.. it's not one I'm too interested in :) Graphics whipped up in 3dsmax (yeah, sorry - no Blender experience!) -

It appears for me.

Re:Not yet
Besides audio differences, one just needs to look at the crossover/amps to see that certain bands have little to no signal on the MP3
There's a big difference between a spectrum analyzer and an ear. For starters, your ear absorbs all frequencies simultaneously, while a spectrum analyzer samples each one while filtering out the others, then displays the level of that frequency or band. This is much the same way a television only draws one pixel at a time, but it appears to be a complete image. It does this very fast, so it appears to be happening all at once, but it's not. In fact, the very reason a spectrum analyzer filters out all but one band (at a time) is because, when taken together, the individual frequencies are indistinguishable. All you have is the sum.
For example, look at the sine wave in this diagram. It appears to be a perfect sine wave, but as you probably know, it is actually a group of pixels approximating a sine wave. For all you know, there could be variations in that sine wave smaller than the pixel size on the bitmap. That apparent sine wave could also be the outline of a much higher frequency wave like this. There's just no way to know, except for what you can see, and what you assume the author's intent was. Audio is no different. This is not the same as a perfect sine wave, but the variance may be so small as to be imperceptible to your ear. When your eardrum is busy moving from its resting state to the point of maximum deflection, its inertia is such that it cannot respond to tiny variations, much the same way you can't feel each tiny piece of rock when you drive over concrete. So why keep them? You can't hear them, and they just take up more room in digital storage. Obviously some variations will be large enough that your ear can distinguish them, but good psycho-acoustic modeling accounts for the abilities of the most sensitive ear and keeps the variations that are perceptible. Low-bitrate encoding goes further for the sake of compression and quality is indeed lost. But using the maximum bitrate -- if the modeling was accurate, and they're all pretty accurate -- you will not be able to tell the difference. -

But what if your blogger souce is a RMTer?
Tis a pitty really that people are citing Ahmed as a reliable source when he is actually a partner in lewt DOT com (link broken deliberatly), one of the biggest spam happy RMT sites out there. Around 2003-2004 I subscribed to a Vancouver-area ISP named MDI Internet, and near the end of my term with them they implemented software called Adzila, which worked as described in the article. Here's an example of an ad it inserted on Google search results:

I was always so suspicious of him.
It's not your fault. The important thing is that you came through in the end, Harry
But I still feel like I should have taken him more seriously. Trusted him more. I always... I don't know.
Out of habit, Rimulus quickly looked at both sides to see that there was no one else there to see to hear, even though it was impossible for anyone to be there without him noticing.
Look, Severus knew what he needed to do in the end. If he hadn't wanted to help us he wouldn't have, and we would never have found the horcrux in Sirius's house. And you saw how Severus went down. Someone who doesn't care wouldn't have faced up to Him like that and been willing to die that way.
You're right.
Harry paused for a moment for another thought.
It hurts anyway, though, he sobbed.
That's perfectly fine.
It's weird but I feel guilty that I never listened to him or I never took him seriously in a good way.
Harry, listen to me.
Harry turned to pay his full attention to Rimulus. Trying to keep his focus on the tall man's taut face took a lot of effort, and he didn't feel any better yet.
Severus knew you couldn't trust him. That doesn't make you a bad person, Harry. He understood you better than we give him credit for, that's why he was able to make that decision. -

Re:discussed it with my kidsAlthough it is possible, and certainly was with the Automobile and the Airplane, someone else might have come up with the idea sooner or later. Who would have known, that no matter how lofty the original purposes and goals were, the internet would evolve into a place where we could all find spirit-uplifting images like this one?
And on those days when you just can't get some odd software you are working on to actually work as intended, you can turn to another hand-picked image like this one also, to give you a little bright spot to enjoy.

Re:Provably?not that anyone would have taken their eyes off Elvira
The perfect girl for your average computer nerd. Not at all standoffish. She's unusual, but so down-to-earth.
Who wouldn't feel right at home with her? A little off the wall for her to be hawking some complicated computer software, I have no idea what is was supposed to do from the advertisement. Must have been something from the old days before Netscape, when computers were supposed to do "office" and "business" stuff.
To see how far we have come, the decendants of Netscape are used everyday, all day in every office and business out there. Nevermind that the new-found purpose is to look on the internet for nice-looking girls like Elvira.
To prove my point, here are a few links to Elvira images for your enjoyment:- Here's one. Appears to be an autographed picture of Elvira, no doubt sent to some lonely nerd.
- This one appears to be another advertisement featuring Elvira.
- In this shot, an impersonator does Elvira, right down to the creepy eye-plastic-surgery, which by the way would be a good conversation starter topic for anyone lucky enough to get a date with Elvira.
- Here we have Elvira on/in a game. Perhaps some of you have wasted your money on this one.
- Supposedly this is a picture of Elvira's car, apparently a T-Bird, with some spooky changes.
- Out selling vacuum cleaners, and you ring this doorbell, get greeted by Elvira and friends.
OK, now we take "safesearch" off, and see what we get:- This one was taken in 2003, you can tell it's really Elvira, because of the little dagger on her belt, with the red and green gemstones. (Elvira has been in show business for a while now, and she is not as young as she used to be, but who cares)
- Here is a photo of Elvira with her pet snake. Lots of wannabe Elvira's felt they had to have a snake too, mostly a bad idea, only Elvira herself knows how to handle the little varmits.
- OK, here's the best for last, showing lots of Elvira's legs, and her car. As you can see, that's a real car, based on a T-Bird, and those are real legs too.
- Here's a screenshot of some Elvira software. I have no idea what it does, and am returning to the image above, much more interesting.

Re:Grep against Google
Instant Search merely interacts with the indexing service. If you turn Windows Search off (which is trivial) then indexing stops and the Instant Search reverts to doing a file-by-file search a la Win98/95, which is exactly what Google's Desktop Search doesn't do.
You're right to say that the Instant Search box cannot be removed, but Google are saying that the indexing that is being done interferes with their own indexing, which in fact it does not as Windows Search indexing only occurs on idle CPU cycles, so Google's will be given a higher priority. They're also saying you can't deactivate it, which you can - GDS modifies the Services when it sets itself to start on boot, so it's once again trivial to include in that a method of deactivating Windows Search. As I mentioned in another post, they tacitly admit that GDS works fine by providing Sidebar plugins and other miscellaneous extras that are designed specifically for Vista.
Google's arguments here are disingenuous at best and deliberately misleading at worst - I have a feeling they're trying to get Windows Search removed merely to cripple Windows searching and create a niche which doesn't currently exist for them in Vista. -
Re:Sabotage is an old concept.
Except once again you haven't read a single thing on the thread and have jumped straight to the only conclusion we could have expected from you - 'MS am bad, lol'.
1) Windows Search does not break Google Desktop Search. In fact, if they are run side by side Google's search will have a higher system priority. Google even tacitly admit it works fine here.
2) Of course Google don't care about Linux tools - they don't make a version of GDS for Linux.
3) Windows Search is very easily disabled, far more easily than anything I've had to do in Linux - screenshot here. It's even possible to do it automatically during an installation as long as admin rights are granted, so why this is beyond Google, employers of supposedly the brightest minds in IT, I don't know.
As usual, though, ignore the facts and get those dollar signs in there as soon as you can!
