While I'm not managing more than a couple of /22s, that's still a lot of subnets, as we're mainly doling out /29 and /28 blocks. I've had all of parent's issues (minus router memory, so far), and I'm still doing fine with a spreadsheet.

What's the trick? Visualisation. Look at the image:

• Each row is a single allocation.
• Unallocated subnets have a light yellow background.
• The leftmost column (dark gray boxes) tracks /28s, and the second column (light gray) tracks /27s.

So, if a box occupies a single row, the corresponding allocation is of that size (cf. 160/27, 192/27 and 224/28.) If it spans multiple rows, the allocation is subdivided. With a little practice, it's quite obvious if there's a free subnet, what size it is, how easy would it be to expand etc.

True, here's two examples.

Imagine Prada bags on the street started being better quality than the originals Better Stiching etc.

Now imagine this happened consistently, suddenly "Knockoff Prada" becomes a better brand than Prada.

This is the same with Pirate Music, Pirate Music is better than Music therefore Pirate Music is the new hot brand.

What got me thinking about this is my knock off Rolex, I like it because it's heavy and well made (Well the band is nice, the internals are cheap) I got it for $1 in China (Along with 5 for friends), to find a comparable watch here would be at least $120.

If they just took the Rolex Brand off their watches they could make a fortune based on quality and price (Design is probably stolen though how much watch design changes eludes me).

If the music industry's don't move faster Pirate Music like Fake Rolex will become a powerful brand. And personally "I love my Rulaxtm".

The computers freezing didn't cause any drop in the stocks.
The real problem was that everybody was selling, so prices were dropping, but the computers didn't show the drop. Once the backup system kicked in, the displays all instantly caught up to what had been going on, and what everyone saw was a big drop.

You are thinking of fresh water.

The density of seawater (e.g. with a salinity of 35) as a function of temperature increases with decreasing temperature (BTW, the article you linked to also mentions this ;-)).

This graph (referenced by an article about arctic sea ice) shows that for seawater with a salinity greater than 24.7 the water freezes before it can get to the density maximum.
(The fact that sea ice floats seems to be related to density change due to phase transformation (sorry, no good source for that one)).
