IANAL, but I think trying to avoid a legal battle with Apple, also violates one of their patents.
And making fun of Apple is also a violation of some patent...

Re:5th Amendment
Given that, if al-Awlaki was supposed to have 5th amendment protections in Yemen, then so should every other person/alleged terrorist which we have knocked off on foreign soil through military and CIA action in the last ten years, but no one is trying to claim that -- why not?
No one? Just because they've been largely ignored by the media, doesn't mean there haven't been plenty of people opposing assassinations and drone attacks before this week.
The reason this is all about Al-Awlkai is that he was just the target of a political assassination, and because this is the first time a President has openly asserted the authority to have Americans killed on his say-so while also arguing that any and all evidence must be kept secret for reasons of 'national security'.

"You can always vote with your money. Really, if it's so important to you don't buy the product."
This argument is meaningless because most people are stupid/incompetent/anti-intellectual or clueless. Also most kids aren't going to wait or boycott something especially if it's something they are emotionally attached to. People are not rational, so markets in many instances don't work at all.
See the Modern warfare boycott here (notice a lot "boycotting" the game actually didn't)

Re:Gamestop been doing it for a long time
Every xbox game I've bought has come with a seal from the factory (with MS logo and stuff) along the edge of the clamshell. Unfortunately most people probably (a) don't know about it, (b) don't care, or (c) take their word that it's still new and they are only protecting themselves from theft.
I like your idea of a more permanent indication of the seal being removed, but GS/EB would probably just put a big sticker over it saying 'new game, really, but don't forget to buy our new game insurance for only $4.99!'. -

Re:awesome..
It's set to English - United States
It's not actually "picking" Korean for me. It's not the language it's changing for me. It's that when I do a google news archive search, it's completely limiting my search results to Korean language papers. It just makes absolutely no sense at all. Regular news searches seem to return fine (logged in the search for frogs gives me 1748 results while logged out it's 1742, though it tells me it's still not doing identical searches, but they don't seem to be causing a huge impact, they're also slightly reordered but mostly the same)
This is what I see in a logged in news archive search:
http://img202.imageshack.us/img202/9654/frogsloggedin.pngIf you click the "search for English language results only" button..it does nothing.. you see the exact same 28 results in the same layout
"All results" takes me to a web search, not a news search -

My suggestion
To send Ubisoft the clearest possible message, I feel that a four-tiered approach needs to happen:
1.) Don't buy the game, and tell all your friends not to buy the game, even the console versions.
2.) Buy the game, but return it three weeks later, unopened. The logic: Best Buy and Gamestop will have replenished their inventory after three weeks; they'll be none too thrilled with having twice that inventory taking up shelf space and will be pressuring Ubisoft's distributor to curtail production runs.
3.) Comment and rate down the game on Amazon, Steam, Metacritic, and wherever else you can.
4.) This is the tricky one: all the release groups that crack games like this need to agree to withhold their releases. Searches for "Driver San Fransisco cracked" need to come up either nil or with green pastures of fake/falsely named files, for the first three months of release. If sales are terrible AND there's no viable pirated copy circulating the internet, then the bean counters at Ubisoft will be forced to conclude that it can't be pirated copies cutting into sales. Yes, I'm certain that we like to think that the people at Ubisoft have exchanged their brains for turnips, and I'm certain that there's some truth to that. However, if the legal department is stuck twiddling their thumbs because there's no one to send a takedown notice to, the distribution liaison is stuck recommending that the next run of disc pressings be halted due to overstock in the retail channel, while the PR department adds a third shift to handle all the e-mail volume they're getting in between cleaning up the Amazon page and drawing up press releases to handle the outcry that could quite possibly hit mainstream media if it's large enough.
The key here is that the response has to be CONSISTENT. This is not a boycott that will send the correct message to Ubisoft. It needs to be loud, consistent, and affect their bottom line every time.

Re:interesting results
You can build a "pretty good" PC for less than a mac if you only compare the specs. Once you throw in things like service, build quality, noise level, footprint and intangibles like style, macs own their category. But sometimes pretty good is good enough.
BS. You can build a way better PC for the money than you can buy from Apple.
Service: I can get things done quicker myself, and done right the first time. I can't tell you how many times I've seen PCs get work done on them, only to be sent back exactly the same as when they sent it in.
Build Quality: Like anything you can get cheap parts or quality parts. However I can guarantee you can get a lot better parts then the foxconn ones used in Macs.
Here's a PC I built 2 months ago, 4.5 GHz 2500K, over 5TB of HD space, an SSD, etc. A very good PSU (where OEMs use trash). The motherboard has an over done VRM phase, and solid caps compared to the shit electrolytic ones Apple uses. Also, my stuff isn't all cramped together, and has superb airflow. The case is awesome to work in. PICTURE LINK
Here's the Specs and cost:
$220 - I5 2500K
$129 - ASR P67 Pro3 Motherboard
$60 - G.Skill 8 GB DDR3 1600
$119 - GTX 460 OC
$89 - HAF 922
$20 - CM 212+
$75 - Corsair TX 650 V2
$99 - 80 GB SSD
$79x2 - 2 TB Samsing HD 5400RPM
$59 - 1 TB Samsung HD 7200 RPM
$20 - DVDRW
$89 - Win 7
Total: $1137
Show me a Mac with those specs, at a cheaper price, and you'll make a believer out of me.
Noise level: The case uses big 200mm / 120mm fans. Since they are big, they spin slow (~800 RPM) but still move a lot of air. I'd imagine it rivals a Mac in terms of noise.
Footprint: A Mac is somewhat smaller, but really, it's a tower, it's not like it takes up a lot of room, really.
intangibles like style, macs own their category: I like the HAF 922 look. Style is subjective, what you like I may not, and vice-versa. However, with building your PC, you get to pick your case. When you build a PC you can always choose a case you like, this doesn't happen with Apple (or all OEMs really, but you referred to self built PCs in your OP), you take what they give you and that's it.
I stand by my assertion, a properly built PC is way better and cheaper than a Mac. -
Re:10 years & still only 1 broswer supports it
Try downloading a largeish torrent via it, leave it running for about 60 minutes, clock the average d/l speed - kill opera get utorrent (or a.n.other) to take over the download, watch the d/l speed increase by a factor of 10.
How about a few seconds? I'll give you the link so you can test it too.
I went to:
http://www.icarosdesktop.com/dl.htm
Here is the direct link:
http://www.icarosdesktop.com/icarosfiles/torr/IcarosLive_1_3_0.torrent
Here is a picture of the speed at just 4%
http://img198.imageshack.us/img198/6894/operatorrent.jpg
Now, that particular one is not the fastest torrent out there, in fact I think it is only seeded by a few people, but it is a legit one that I actually do download when there are updates to this particular AROS distro.
That is 866.3 KB/s reached in a few seconds in Opera's built in client. Now I run uTorrnet anyway for things I seed myself longterm, but it's nice to just DL a file and not worry about anything. It's also nice when I have Opera running from a thumb-drive (option from Opera's default installer BTW) that I can just DL a torrent from "anywhere" just as I would any other DL and not have to mess around.
Again, as the article says BitTorrent has been around 10 years. I think it's common sense that you should be able to download a "download" in your browser.
Do I use an FTP client when moving lots of stuff around on my server? Hell yeah. Do I use my FTP client when I want to download a quick file of webpage and the linked file happens to start with ftp: ? Hell no. -

As in "Spent fuel pond", as in "Needs constant cooling", as in "Fukushima reactor #4 was shut down and still caused big problems", as in "Spent fuel pond in Fukushima reactor #3 is in critical condition". As in, anything within two or three orders of magnitude of this is grossly unacceptable.
As someone who lives in a city that had two "500 year floods" 15 years apart, and watched the city to our north crest over 11 feet over its previous record, I find the concept of having such little margin absurd. And that's *assuming* that your never-tested flood defences hold. We live in a time where major rainfall events are trending upwards at the same time when rivers are increasingly forced into tight channels with nowhere to go during floods.

Re:Microsoft fanfiction.
There are official MS OS Anime personifications, and there have been for quite some time.
I see that although you are not new to the net, you are new to this topic, so I'll link you to one list of the OS-tans. I'm sure you'll have no problem finding the other less NSFW places yourself to see more and better quality pics/fics, if you are so inclined...
There is indeed slash fiction. I read one not too long ago about XP-tan having an affair with Windows7-tan, Vista-tan was quite upset (her abandonment issues surfacing yet again); The always compassionate Linux-tan tried to console her, but it made the needy OSX Leopard-tan very jealous (apparently consoling a rival is a grave transgression on her home planet).
There are OS-kuns (males) as well... My girlfriend told me of the new yaoi slash she was reading where OSX-Kun fell in love with the heroic and savage XP-kun who had rescued him from the lair of the evil scientist Dr. Mac-Defender. In the heat of their passion OSX-kun had unknowingly infected XP-kun with a virus; Thus, both OS-kuns were soon on their way to see the comically bungling Dr. Norton-kun.
Fear not my friends, Rule 34 can not be denied.

Re:They all do this.
But Apple's patent wouldn't be like patenting the wheel -- it would be even worse. It would prevent you from having any remotely-circle-like shape that rolls (say, a decagon).

Re:Not a bad list.
Shit should just work. People shouldn't have to spend 30 minutes fiddling with graphics settings before they can even load up the game. They should be able to click the icon on their desktop, click "start game", and go without hassle.
Stop trolling you troll. They can. You can install a PC game like Half Life 2 and start playing immediately. It defaults to "optimum" settings for your machine. However, if you want to increase the settings at the expense of frame-rate, or decrease the settings because you don't need the eye-candy, you can do that too.
Exhibit A: For anyone who feels the need to alter their video settings in HL2, clicking Options>Video Tab, they see this.
Exhibit B: For anyone who feels they need to monkey with anything more than resolution/brightness, they can click on advanced.
I say again, in what way does this make for a confusing UI? In order to get anything even remotely confusing, you have to go looking for it. Firstly, this isn't the olden-days where you have to summon gaming voodoo and edit a config/bindings file, and it's not going to drive people away from PC gaming. The "advanced" options are available, but hidden, and there is an easy way to revert to the defaults. And the defaults are clearly labelled.
Secondly, I hope companies do stop porting games to PC if they're only going to do a half-arsed job of it as they seem to be doing now. -
