Ah, okay. A quick look at Google says there's a few documentaries with 1944 in the title. One of which was what made me think I'd potentially seen it before. I'll have to give them a shot but, to be clear, I usually try to make it through anything I start. Sometimes, I just can't do it. I may leave it running but I won't be paying attention to it any more. I'll give them both a shot.

I was able to find 1944 at my favorite pirate stream site* but they do not appear to have a link to In the Crosswind on the site. In fact, when I search IMDb by the title I...

* My favorite pirate stream site is ZMovie. Seeing as you were kind enough to share two movies that you thought I might like, I shall share two of my favorite streaming sites. I prefer the former but that's not for any good reason except that it's the one that I found before Solar. Also, Solar doesn't seem to like being added as a custom search engine. I've not tried it in a while but it used to be that if you added it as a search engine then it would go in and get listed like one. It just would always time out, complain about redirecting too many times, error out on a strange disallowed referrer editor, or things like that. I suspect they've got a complicated and borderline retarded .htaccess file. But, without further ado:

I saw that video, too! It's called, The Day After Tomorrow. If you give equal weight to actual scientific research as you do to some dumbass video, then you really shouldn't be posting on SlashDot.

Jules Verne would feel validated (Master of the world, 1961) but I think the military would be drooling. Imagine a weapon that can hide and change it's mode of travel; it would be almost impossible to detect or defend against. The summary doesn't mention underwater travel but it would be easy to build something which tows the drone while submerged.

The only way to change this is to stop buying products from these companies. Our wallets are the only leverage we have against these corporate giants. The problem is that we all like to eat food and sleep under a roof and have nice things. To actually hurt these corporations, we'd collectively have to forgo a large amount of what makes life worth living. Boycott Disney? How many parents have the willpower to tell their special little snowflake that they can't see the latest Disney princess on the big screen? Boycott outsourcing? What company doesn't have their customer service out sourced? Boycott Chinese products? Try going to any big box store and buying something made in America.

I highly recommend watching Ethos to understand exactly what us peons are up against.

It's inevitable. Kinda what makes us human is our desire to make life easier. We've gone from doing everything ourselves, to using tools, to using animals, to using other humans... and very very recently, using machines. And that's generally been a really good thing. Ask your wife (or your mom, whatever) if she'd like to give up the washing machine and the dishwasher and start doing all that shit by hand. Faced with giving up one afternoon reading a magazine with hard labor every fucking day, she'll happily sell you to the traffickers before she gives up her machines.

For everything that people think is drudgery, some mutant smarty-pants will develop a machine to do the work. There'll probably be robots wiping our asses in the nursing homes of the future IF WE'RE LUCKY, because the robot nurses won't get tired, frustrated, short-tempered, forgetful, offended, or grossed-out at the mess we just made of ourselves. They'll listen to us tell the same fucking story about our grandkids over and over and always act (convincingly) like it's the first fucking time.

What will all the humans do that are displaced from these jobs? Fuck knows, seriously. Maybe the robots will lead to everything being so cheap and abundant, we have no reason not to embrace socialism with free food and board for everybody, entertaining ourselves all day like the survivors on the Axiom in Wall-E. or maybe we put our spare time to work and educated everybody and put together some kind of utopian Star Trek future and put all our idle hands into exploring the stars. or maybe we'll go all ISIS, Boko Haram ape-shit crazy and start a real big war, and then the robots will finally figure out that the the planet's better off without us.

Well not all movies .

That said too many people seem to believe that getting shot is instant death and that you go flying backwards when shot. Having shot a number of deer (thankfully all clean good shots) and also helped track down a few of my cousin's (he unfortunately has gut shot a couple), I have see deer run for miles for the better part of a day, as well as get shot through the heart, then hear the shot, run, and then tip over dead after 10-20 meters. I haven't ever dropped one but both my uncle and cousin have, but in those cases we were hunting in southern Minnesota with 12 gauge slug guns.

If you are a person who is mentally ill or just plain hates the world, you will not want to be in a profession where they scrutinize who you are, and keep a whole bunch of information on you.

This may or may not be true, but it sounds plausible.

Again, this is very plausible depending on the mental illness.

A person like that isn't even going to get to a security check because they will likely be turned off of any position once they find out they have to do one and how much the company will know about them.

Most people who start the process of a security check already know that there is nothing to find and that the information on them that is retained will never work against them in any way.

If you're a taxi driver, the system gets your fingerprints and deep down you know if you commit a crime those can be used against you. If you're an Uber driver you don't have to care about that.

Huh? Well, in a strict sense, I suppose that no, I haven't been able to confirm what others have said about Uber collecting prints. How exactly does Uber's service work if the cars aren't constantly being tracked? Wouldn't that be worth more than mere fingerprints? Surely, Uber at least logs pick up and drop off points? I mean, if the cops have the wrong guy here, I don't see how fingerprints will help. I do however see Uber being able to provide corroborating or exonerating evidence. I suspect they have evidence that the cops have the right guy.
