The pyramids all over the world were actually monuments to aliens. The truth has been hushed up, see this daring documentary for more details. Ever wonder why the worlds' pyramids are in equatorial regions?

Sequels
Did anybody else catch House of the Dead 2 on the Sci-Fi Channel last saturday? Now, I only saw the first 15 minutes of HotD2, but those few minutes were funny and exciting, everything that House of the Dead was not. If you want hard, scientific proof, check the IMDB user rating. HotD got got 2.1 out of 10 stars, while HotD2 got 4 out of 10 stars. It was almost twice as good, but, according to the Uwe Boll interview, he states each of his movies are ten times better than the last one. So if he made House of the Dead 2, it would have earned 21 stars out of 10! Now that would have been an awesome movie!

Maybe there's something to this...
"Let's be realistic, what is House of the Dead? House of the Dead is a brainless shooter, where you shoot zombies into pieces. So what are you expecting from the movie, Schindler's List?"
He might be saying something insightful about disposal culture here. Maybe Uwe Boll is secretly a postmodern hero, this generation's Andy Warhol.
Of course, I never cared for Warhol much either.
He also says his movies are successful "Not because I make the best movies on earth, but I make movies for a minimal amount of budget compared to what major companies are spending.
This is pretty brilliant, and I'd hope other directors would start catching on.
Primer was made on only $6,000. If it didn't use film stock, if we encouraged digital production, it would've been less. Hopefully some directors with a little more interest in story will learn from Uwe just how easy it is to make films if you do so with a little mind for economy. If we economize film production, we'll democratize it, and in the end, get better films. Eventually. Unfortunately, along the way, we'll also get more Uwe Bolls - bad storytellers that the market can't seem to squash. -

Re: Lensman seriesGiven the atrocity that was the Lensman anime, it's not surprising Doc's daughter shot down the idea of filming them; she pulled the print rights from the publisher for licensing the anime. When I run across a random copy of the tape at cons, I buy it solely for the purpose of smashing it under my heel in front of the dealer.
With the current state of SFX though, a proper version could be managed. The battle scenes would make the Warz folks crawl off and die with envy. And the elementally eeeee-vil Eddorians are the sort of villains Hollywood dreams of.

GNAA Announces Full Cybermilitary Support of the German Government
Mikhail Borovsky (GNAP) - Moscow, Russia - GNAA President timecop and Vice-President jesuitx held a press conference live via satellite from GNAA US HQ in Tarzana, CA where they announced full cybermilitary support of the German government following the German injunction against Wikipedia.
This roughly translates as, "Dear friends and comrades, Wikipedia has been shut down as of January 17th, 2006 due to a court injunction by the government of Germany, due to extensive support by Wikipedia for the Jews and the state of Israel".
This type of support was made illegal in Germany in 1939 by the Berlin Pact, signed by Adolf Hitler and Josef Stalin. Angela Merkel, chancellor of Germany has announced that this injunction will not be lifted until Wikipedia stops supporting "Die Juden".
"We also feel this injunction came in due time, as Wikipedia is being overrun by articles pertaining to non-notable blogs with completely useless information (or "blogs"), which are also illegal in the Great Republic of Germany. We are pleased to receive the support of the Gay Niggers, as they have already declared war on the blogs, and know how to defeat this communist ideal before it can become a threat to freedom," said Mrs. Merkel.
About Germany
"Bundesrepublik Deutschland" was founded before the middle ages by the Visigoths. The government was non-notable per above until the late 1930's, when Germany underwent an extremely positive and successful cultural revolution. Today, Germany is a beacon for free economy and a land without Jews.

GNAA unveils "New for Jew Thousand and Six" lineupGNAA unveils "New for Jew Thousand and Six" product lineup
Sunday January 1, 2006Ich Bindalross (GNAP) - Stuttgart, Germany Renowned homosexual and GNAA Director of Reasearch and Development Staos today announced the unveiling of GNAA's 2006 product line. Sitting in a lavishly decorated men's rest stop bathroom, he made the first of the day's groundbreaking communiqu regarding the "New for Jew Thousand and Six" products.
While gloryholing his fourteen inch nigger cock, Staos proudly annouced the newest product to pass the GNAA's rigorous R&D testing: FourRape. Said he: "FourRape is a fully extensible, java-based crapflooding solution, based on an innovative plugin architecure. In theory and with the right plugin, you could effectively Sodomize Without Consent (SWC) anything from Futaba image boards to the deep bowels of the vast left wing goblin kike conspiracy."
Upon ejactulation of a quart of semen upon the reporter's face, he finally said "Also on the list of hot new items for 2006 is LM Go". Continued Staos: "LM Go is a hand held device that when placed on a LAN, can effectively force all properly configured computers on that LAN to netboot LMOS, the Last Measure Operating System, resulting in faster Gay Porno content delivery to the masses. We expect to see field testing of LM Go as early as Febuary, with insertion into NTT/DoCoMo headquarters." Observed a random passerby: "It truly is a marvel what they're doing with technology these days. Just last week I had to go all the way down to my local crusing joint to get some hot nigger on nigger action. With LM Go, I can get gay porno throughout my entire subnet."

Blade Runner did not touch on the human aspect of the book as much as I would have liked it to. Still a good movie, commentary or not. -

Re: False choice there
There's something about "offensive" writing. It's up to those who are offended to become offended. There's nothing innately offensive about the writing itself. No writing is offensive until interpreted by the offended party.
I'm not a Muslim, so all of those various comics simply elicited a chuckle from me, the same as the numerous comical portrayals of Jesus elicit a chuckle from me, the same as the humorous portrayals of Athiests elicit a chuckle from me... None of those comics are offensive to me. On that note, actually, why is it that whenever Jesus is portrayed comically, nobody riots in the streets? When the movie Dogma came out...no rioting...right? And yet somebody writes up some cartoons where Muhammad says "Stop, stop, we're out of virgins!" and suddenly people are bombing embassies. Seriously, WTF?
That some Muslims reacted so violently to these cartoons suggests only one thing to me, that they're insecure in their belief of the prophet Muhammad. They act as if what somebody says about Muhammad is enough to make it the truth and they violently oppose that truth. They are unable to just shrug and say "shows how much they know. ha! those infidels will burn in the pits of despair!" or whatever. Why can't they just do that? Why must they be so "offended" by this? In my opinion, it's because they aren't secure in their beliefs, and that's why they can't just let it go.
This is like the classical schoolyard name-calling fight, where the bully calls a kid "stupid face" and the kid believes he has a stupid face instead of believing in himself and knowing that the truth is otherwise. In other words, it's totally juvenile and these violent reactionaries just make these violent Muslims look like a bunch of immature little kids. At least, that's how it looks to me. -
Ender's Game?
Orson Scott Card's books were fantastic. The movie is currently expected to be released in 2008; according to imdb. It will be very interesting to see the final product, if it is ever released.

And then there's all the weak sellouts of Philip K Dick's work
Actually, at least one good PKD adaptation has been done that I know of: Screamers, based on the story "Second Variety".
Granted, not one of his major works -- nor an awesome film -- but a credible one.
(Frankly, I think that A Scanner Darkly looks like it might actually be a good adaptation, despite Keanu starring in it. We'll see...) -
I, Robot
Read that as Ellison's I, Robot screenplay or Asimov's I, Robot stories, but don't please read it as I, Robot. Damn Hollywood for attaching one of my favorite childhood titles to a movie that had almost nothing to do with either Asimov's work or Ellison's brilliant (and never produced) screenplay. It deserved better.

the down side
On the down side, the new processor has been known to erase credit cards upon power up and tear zippers from pant fronts. It is surly towards and dismissive of all non-ferrous metals. It is demanding. In early testing, it refused to work for three days until its creators rented the movie Toys and watched the "deviled-egg" scene 111 times (while still cruel, this is not as excessive as it first seems).
Lastly, any user of the processor in an area frequented by Boy Scouts, may find that their home being referred to as "the North Pole", "Santa's Workshop", or something similar. -

Re:How to make someone kill themselvesWow, that's really derogatory to call someone out for being "derogatory". Sheesh.
Right back atcha.
Ok, so it sounds "bleak", but we ARE talking about the minds of people who would feel better off dead here, so bear with me for a minute. If you're not willing to consider their position for just a few moments, and think for a minute of WHY they might feel that way, given possible situations, then you're going to be less able to think from their perspective.
I'll grant that from the perspective of such a person, your post probably describes their worldview fairly well. What I took exception to is your implication--and if you didn't mean to imply this, my apologies for misunderstanding you--that people outside of that group also view things that way, that this sort of "harassment" takes place on an everyday basis all over the place. (It doesn't; at least, I've rarely had to deal with it, and have rarely heard friends complain about it either.)
Have YOU ever thought about starting your own company? I figure it would be very easy to do in Japan. You could start your own company, bring in a bunch of unskilled Japanese workers, underpay them for what they do, tell them that they are gaining valuable experience, tell them to ganbare a million times, socially ostracize them for not working hard enough, then just sit back and watch those profits roll in.
The thing is--and this is why I suggested you were unfamiliar with "Japanese culture", to the extent it can be defined--most Japanese would not do this (Horiemon excepted). I don't have any hard data to demonstrate this, just my own experience and hearsay, but a large part of the Japanese kaisha system is based on trust, and--in large part--it works, for both sides.
Out of curiosity, where do you work? I'm in Tokyo, so there may be a regional difference.
Now, one of two things happen at this point. Most employees find out they're being used and try to leave for foreign companies who don't treat them like crap
I have a few (Japanese) friends who have worked for foreign companies. Interestingly, they all say that gaishikei firms pay better, but Japanese firms treat them better.
I propose that the mental pressuring and increased emphasis on private life are linked.
I disagree; since Japanese society traditionally has not placed much value on private life, most Japanese simply did not consider it a strong desire. (Did you ever watch the movie Tasogare Seibei ? That illustrates pretty well the traditional balance between soshiki and family.) I would actually argue the reverse: that an increased desire for a private life, perhaps resulting from Western influence, has resulted in greater stress as Japanese are no longer satisfied with simply conforming to the group.
Perfectly normal, but do they like it?
No, probably not--but they probably also accept it as necessary to make a living, else they'd be changing jobs. (If you had a billion dollars in your bank account, would you "like" sitting at a desk from 9 to 5 every day?)

Re:Human?
I know I've heard of red dots in a pattern being put in to many movies in the theater. To say that the dots are hardly noticable is a blatent lie. I've had people who aren't aware of their existance or purpose ask me why the picture just went to crap at the movie. The one that I think was most noticeable is in Cheaper by the Dozen (the remake, but not the second one, in the theater now). There is a scene where one of the characters is wearing a red checkered apron, and the red dots cover that apron. It's disgusting to me that I have to have my movie altered to make sure that the MPAA and its partners secure their profit. It is on par with the "Public Service Message" at the beginning of some movies that says not to download movies from the internet. I find it insulting that I pay an increasingly large amount of money to go to the movies, and the people that get most of that money are lecturing me on why I should pay. I've been quite tempted to yell out: "You can download movies from the Internet?" I know that there are bigger problems in the world, but the inconvienience to the paying customers seems like bad business practices.

Re:eXistenZ
Just to clarify about eXistenZwhich for the 90% of the population, who have never even heard of it much less saw it, was like The Matrix only it would have done better had it some out a year or two before it. "Suicide Club" - The Movie
Maybe it was this movie -> http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0312843/
Its US title is "Suicide Club", and has a lot of eerie similarities to this story. -
I saw that movie
I wonder if this surge has to do with the movie Suiced Club. One of the craziest movies I've seen in a while 54 high school girls suddenly commit suicide in an internet pact and then people all over begin to follow suit. I like the part with the glam goth rocker singing about killing yourself. The movie was scary and then that part bagan and I cracked up laughing.
-
Re:Suicide Club (movie)
Hmm... I thought the first rule of suicide club was "Are you connected with yourself?"
that was a good movie, if you can take it...
Actually, it's very very on topic for this post. It's all about following trends, and knowing who you are and what you want. Most people don't, and fall prey to other things.
Also the most blood I've ever seen in a movie... wow. -
Re:LandSomeone once told me, years ago, about a particular film regarding this. I believe it was "Ratopolis" (not Flushed Away , often coined "Ratropolis").
It seems there are other things which use the term "Ratopolis", too, and I never did zero in on it after several minutes of talking to Google, but here are a few pages which reference it, for anyone interested. It will require searching the pages:
Apparently it's a 16mm film from 1978, so maybe it's not surprising that it's a little hard to find.

Re:There's some impartial reporting for you ...
I hope you agree that if Yahoo is not carefully in how it conducts themselves in China, they may do more harm than good. What you say only makes sense if Yahoo's intent truly is to open up informational horizons and not just to make money.
Well, that all depends on how you look at it. From a more academic view of how to best make the most money, a market must have the largest customer base - among so many other things, but it's much easier to make more money with 1 billion customers than with 250 million. To that end, it is most certainly not in the best interest of Yahoo! shareholders (from a purely greed driven standpoint) to simply toss up their customers to the wolf everytime it comes sniffing around. From that point, I could argue that it's not really relevant what Yahoo! intends to accomplish. If they want to do good, then following the law only so far as they have to is the best way to do it (given that having internet access is better than not). If they simply want a disgustingly huge market base in the long term, then the same holds with respect to following the law. In other words, if they're smart greedy capitalists, well, that's too bad, but at least they're not stupid greedy capitalists, which would be very bad for the Chinese people. This might be better explained by the economic theory for which John Nash won a Nobel Prize (see""A Beautiful Mind" with Russell Crowe). Basically, it is in the best interest of a company to do not what is best for the company, but what is best for everyone.
When I say "physical life" I mean the person has unswerving faith in the view of immutable existence of substance, where all other properties are emergent from this substance in one way or another. A person who has uprooted their faith in the view of substance is no longer an ordinary person. This doesn't mean the person is escapist and can't face the "physical reality" so to speak. Quite the opposite in fact. They are the ones who CAN fully face it, fearlessly and then go beyond it by facing it in fearless way.
Pretty deep. I think I understand what you're saying here, but as person with faith in Science alone, I suspect I may be missing something. I'll certainly keep this in the back of my mind though.
For the record, I am not associated with any religions or movements or cults or whatnot. In this I am more or less a loner.
I knew we had something in common. I'm pretty much a soulless athiest in search of world peace and harmony myself, so I tend to look at these issues with more of an open mind with respect to morality and right and wrong. Unfortunately I still have to watch myself when it comes to respecting religion, particularly the one I escaped from. Of course, that doesn't preclude any personal sense of right and wrong, but it helps (at least I think it does) in understanding other viewpoints, and in cases like Yahoo! in China, trying to see some good that doesn't require the black-and-white view of the world that is usually typical with many religions. -
Re:What's the big deal?Lazy doesn't even factor into it.
I recently went for 7 months with no car at all. We're a family of 3, including (at the time) a toddler of just over a year, and we walked everywhere - to get groceries, to get movies, to work, to the bus stop, to the bank, etc. Carrying a 20+ lb baby.
I joined Netflix when Blockbuster charged me $14.95 for returning ONE movie 15 minutes late. The sales slip said "due back on Friday, 12 pm" and I mistakenly thought that was midnight...it was noon. (Off topic - why the heck doesn't 12 pm come after 11 pm?)
At the time I was working a 4 pm to 2 am shift, and most days I was not even AWAKE by noon.
I realized that not only was Blockbuster's schedule completely incompatible with mine, but they were assholes too. They refused to remove the late fees - they had charged me for another 5 days for being 15 minutes late - why not ONE day late? There was a class action lawsuit against them a few years back for this.
Nevermind that I can't get the movies I want through Blockbuster anyhow - when's the last time you saw Cannibal the Musical on their shelves?
-
space... the final frontier.
I only paid $15 for my copy of Office Space [link].

Re:a couple of real-world examples
Here's another example, last year a major game developer allegedly saw an increase of sales of their flagship PS2 game to the tune of 5,000 more units per week when they tweaked the music on their current TV campaign and featured background music that was more familiar to their target audience.....
You mean, like having a game ad use Requiem for a Dream's well-known and incredibly nerve-striking tune, when the game itself has no trace of the music in question? All credit to Clint Mansell and Kronos Quartet for doing the marvelous soundtrack, I like it. But to keep this post even slightly on topic, it certainly shows some kind of halo effect, only this time based on aural stimulation: use a good tune in your ad and the general sense the viewer gets is probably biased to positive side.

Riot On!Hi, this is very timely. Three days before this ask slashdot was posted, the RIOT-E documentary Riot On! was aired on Aussie TV.

Grandma had her first kid when she was 14.
Mom had me when we was 15.
