Hoist them by own petard?
Well I surfed and unfortunately it looks like I was denied this classic in school. Says it was the most popular book (and film) ever or close to it. Anyway, there is a huge list of external reviews at imdb
and according to this one, the film at least and maybe the book for all I know glorify marital rape. Who'd a thunk?
I wonder how hard it would be for a concerted email bomb^H^H^H^H writing campaign to get this book and maybe film banned from schools and maybe libraries and rental? Seems for the U.S., revisionism is only the next step, and if books are already being banned in one state or another why not add one that is so richly deserving, seeing as how its owners wish it to be so hard to find. I don't know if it is supposed to be a parody or a snapshot of the time (since I haven't read it yet, doh) but this case is just way over the top. Now they want to stop the Internet, better call Al Gore. -
Re:Awesome!
Dick Burns? Maybe Wil's spent too much time, uh, recovering health.
Yeah, he never did recover from leech he got on his peepee during the filming of Stand By Me. -
Re:Ok, what is the point of this?
Or, try to find a pattern in the stock market.
Just watch out for those pesky ants and Rabbi's
( Before you mod me troll or whatever, it's a reference from the movie Pi.. which strangely had very little to do with Pi ) -
Re:Yeah, but...
wasn't this essentially the plot of a movie?
-
Re:Hmm... (Drifting OT)
American Pie did have an R rating. And I didn't think it had a "completely irresponsible attitude towards teenage sex". The whole pretext of the movie (four guys tryig to get laid and dealing with their insecurities about it) is a fairly accurate portrayal of real high school.

re:
Reasonably if you want a 100 dollar computer you have to decide from the start you have no desire to run any system intensive software.
Now the 100 dollar computer with reasonably fast access speed?
You have to limit the OS to a watered down version of a full version. What are you looking at though? One hundred dollars for a computer which usually includes software. No sane layman is gonna buy a software-less computer for 100 bucks.
So the best solution I see is the example set forth on the movie The First 20 Million is Always the Hardest. An amusing movie with an interesting computer concept.
Basically the computer in question, the PC99, has very limited hardware but it uses the internet for all of its software needs. You connect to your own interface really. Of course in this movie they use 3D-Transparent-Hologram's and Laser-Guided-Desktop-Movement. A little futuristic but the idea is there. You have a computer with a processor, ram and a network interface and you basically download everything you see and use for read/write access.
So it would be good for word processing and internet/email but scratch any intentions to play intensive games or use intensive applications. -
Re:The submerged mouse
Well, they did the 'submerged mouse' bit in the movie The Abyss; apparently the mouse actually was submerged, that wasn't SFX, though the actor's weren't.

You can build one for 99...
With eMagic from The First 20 Million is Always the Hardest
Odd movie, tries REALLY hard to appeal to the geeks, but its just entertaining to see Tiny and his social inadaptation. -
Minor CorrectionYou do know, 'The rock' will play 'Sarge' (Master Sergeant Thomas Kelly), while 'Karl Urban' will play 'John Grimm' (our Hero - the UAC marine)... Right?!

Re:Torn
I commend to you the Monty Python movie "Brazil" from around...1984 (!) or so.
There is nothing humorous about this movie, rather it is a chilling look at a world that I hope never comes. Something along the lines of "Trust no one, suspect everyone".
The good part is that if everyone has a camera, the sheer volume of video footage will render all but the most talented videographers and well-connected unwatched. Just like the myriad blogs are today.
Besides, aren't some cities and municipalities bragging that they are installing fixed video cameras in key public areas? I feel soooo much safer now that my every move can be watched. I guess I can't pick my nose any more. :-(

Huh?
Chicks got hung on a meathook back in Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and that guy was actually after a PG-13 rating.
That guy (Tobe Hooper) must have been a very forward thinking individual, because the PG-13 rating wouldn't exist for another 10 years. -
Re:They should have done this one first
Cool. That had better dialogue than Wimbledon

What's worse is there hasn't been a discussion about Halflife the motion picture which is also now in production...

Sooooo....
...when is Duke Nukem forever "THE MOVIE", going into production? Yeah yeah, i know about:
""...[Duke Nukem Producer] Kasanoff is currently developing GT Interactive's hot shoot'em-up game Duke Nukem as a 2002 feature film, pitting the shades-wearing, beer-drinking, woman-ogling hero against alien invaders.'Duke is a blast', says Kasanoff...'He's just a great character. It's the opportunity to do a huge action move that's really funny. You get the most politically incorrect action hero in the world, yet he's a true patriot and truly loves and respects women. That's a fascinating dichotomy'."And this. -
yeah right
The plot and setting is right from the game.
Oh come on, do you think they can really condense the intricate storyline, complex characterizations, and nuanced dialogue of Doom into a 2 hour movie? I think not.
Good god, people, Doom had a bad storyline EVEN BY VIDEOGAME STANDARDS. Who actually thinks it will make a good movie? If you answer "me", then please explain it to me.
The funny thing is most slashdot stories about something the MPAA has done are followed by comments about "who cares, Hollywood movies are so bad why would you want to watch them anyway?". You do realize that you can't honestly be in both camps, you know? You can't criticize the mindless drivel that Hollywood puts out and then say in the next breath that you're eagerly awaiting Doom.
Alright, I MAY see it, but that's only because Rosamund Pike is sexy as hell. When you're the sexiest woman in a movie that also stars Halle Berry, that's something special. But the movie itself isn't something that a sentient being should look forward to. -
