In other news...
It has been discovered that Paper(tm), a voting system planned to be widely deployed in the coming elections, suffers from numerous vulnerabilities.
A security assessment taskforce has found that the system, in which a stylus is used to infuse chemical dyes onto a thin cellulose-based wafer, is vulnerable to a Denial Of Service attack in which the wafer is exposed to heat until fully oxidised. This renders the results unreadable. Furthermore, the wafers are unencrypted, which makes them vulnerable to replay and other man-in-the-middle attacks. Another attack involves exposing the wafers to lateral force until they are compressed, rendering them easier to dispose. This is known as the 'scrunch-it-and-trash-it' attack, which was made famous in the underground hacker classic Election, starring Matthew Broderick and Reese Witherspoon.
Members of the security community are said to be flabbergasted at the general level of public apathy towards these vulnerabilities, which the taskforce has given its highest threat rating.

Re:Oh, come on!
it wasn't alan rickman who was leonardo leonardo, it was alec baldwin. but i agree. adult swim should pick it up and order new episodes.
-
Re:Budget
Actually just as a nitpick, it wasn't Batman. It was when he was talking about his involvement with the then-soon-to-be-file-13'ed 'Superman' effort. The producer of the movie was all excited about doing the picture, but could we have Superman in shorts fighting a huge spider?
The man he was talking about was Jon Peters. He was a producer on Batman as well as Wild Wild West. He was also Barbra Streisand's hairdresser and as far as Smith could tell, quit kooky. -
Re:Oh, come on!
Well, I remember before or about the time Mewes went into rehab Smith was concerned. He said at that time that he'd be willing to do another movie with the characters Jay and Silent Bob if that would help give Mewes some incentive.
So, I don't think he's pulling a Lucas and doing it strictly for the money. Although it is nice to be paid.
What would be better is this: Adult Swim should pick up the Clerks cartoon because that was one of the best things ever (even if they couldn't convince Alan Rickman to be the voice of Leonardo Leonardo) and make new episodes. -

Re:"Quick buck"?!
I think not.
Box office data for Clerks
The movie made over 10 times its budget at the box office. Very few movies can say that. Plus, the movie has to do huge bank on video, as where I live I haven't been able to rent it for ten years, as it's always sold out of every rental joint. -
Didn't Kevin Smith died after filming Xena?
How can he be filming a sequel of anything if he was killed back in 2002? Maybe he was indeed a God of War?

Re:Missing: Interview
Foo: So, when will you stop beating your wife?
Bar: The day before I first met her.
Baz: So you went back in time and beat her?
I think he means the wobble-wobble-poof thing from The Butterfly Effect. He went back in time and made sure not to marry her in the first place, so that he wouldn't beat her. -

Re:Oh, come on!someday someone's ging to say that Adam Sandler, or Affleck & Damon "sold out"
Adam Sandler sold out!
(happy now?)
Seriously, I hated Adam Sandler until I saw his performance in Punch Drunk Love. Everything else I've ever seen him: Waterboy, Big Daddy, Little Nicky; make me feel like gnawing off my own limbs.
Maybe he's made other good movies, but I'm not going to invest a huge amount of time trying to find out what they are.

Is this movie related?
Vulgar (Name of the movie)
The movie itself is, well, vulgar. It's up there in the top five brain alteringly disturbing movies. -
how not to argue
but this movie ranks as one of the most boring movies ever. Right up there with Chariots of Fire.
I'm with you, yeah that Chariots of Fire really sucked. Did anyone actually like that movie?
On a side note: I'm reading this fantasy novel, and it sucks, putting it right up there with that Lord of the Rings trilogy. -
Re:Gremlins
Yes, first thing I thought of was this movie which actually had a rocket wheelchair
:) -
silver bullet
That reminds me of a nice werewolf movie from the 80's: silver bullet.
The main character was a paralytic boy, and his uncle makes him a powerful 'wellchair'. -
Freddy Got Fingered...
Freddy Got Fingered has prior art. Mmmm...Betty.

If you've seen Airplane (1980), you know the scene I'm talking about!
Quite daring for a PG movie....
Was the MPAA asleep at the wheel when they gave Airplane A PG rating in spite of this scene? -

compare(Bosnia, Iraq)Quoting two at once,
...Bosnia.Doesn't compare to Iraq.
Dozens of Americans were killed in Bosnia, and what do we have to show for it? The Europeon countries for whom we took this action -- shed this blood, sacrificed a Cabinet Secretary -- have proven they will not reciprocate. We cannot build or use military facilities in Bosnia.
We have nothing to show for our work in Bosnia. We are left with the conclusion that President Clinton's actions were simply to distract from his dishonorable domestic conduct. Readers are encouraged to rent and view this documentary.
On the other hand, for the cost of a thousand American soldiers (and a hundred billion Iraqi babies!!!), have created an ally in the middle of the Middle East. We have a great big unsinkable aircraft carrier. We have a California-size staging area for further pacifications.
In other words, we have a whole new country to show for our work. Pretty damn impressive!
And the only pinheads who think it was a "distraction" from the War on Terror have not heard of the Abu Nidal Organization or the Salman Pak training camp.
Of the socialist ANO, the Federation of American Scientists says, "Has received considerable support, including safehaven, training, logistic assistance, and financial aid from Iraq, Libya, and Syria (until 1987), in addition to close support for selected operations." (emphasis added to make it perfectly clear that Iraq supported terrorists) Of special relevance is Libya -- whose capitulation in the War on Terror was a direct result of the action in Iraq.
Like the song says,
If you want a President who kicks ass, vote Republican.
If you want a President who kisses ass, vote Democrat.
If you want a President who is an ass, vote Green.
If you want a President who will let you buy ass, vote Libertarian. -
Re: I would have busted him, too...
I think you are confusing her with Marisa Tomei who was in my cousin vinny where Pesci played a lawyer defending his cousin (Ralph Macchio) who was being tried for murder and Tomei was Pesci's girlfriend Mona Lisa Vito and Fred Gwynne was the judge.
She was the one Vinny called to the witness stand as an expert on general automotive knowledge and she revealed that Macchio's character could not have commited the crime because his mint-green convertible had been mistaken for the real getaway car that left distincitive tire tracks because it has a positraction rear axle with independent suspension.
I love that movie.
Say you're a deer. You prance through the forest to a nice, clear stream and take a little drink from the cool sweet wather when, BAM! someone blows your fucking head off. I ask you, are you going to give a shit what the bastard was wearin? -

Mario Brothers
There are other "rumors" of this type of thing. Wasn't there an intent stated to have a Doom movie (many moons ago)? And I'm certain we could come up with plenty of other ones. But there is a case of movie->games->movie
(movie #1) Predator + (movie #2)Alien -> (game #1)"Alien vs. Predator" + (game #2)"Alien vs. Predator v2" -> (movie)"Alien vs. Predator"
It's either FOAF|UL or I think they're floating a balloon and see how much buzz there is about it? It's more realistic than hiring a feedback panel. "Leak" the story, then watch for activity on slashdot, usenet, etc. and figure out if there's a possibility of it working. Game sales outperform movie sales. Why not merge the two? Gosh, it must be better than both!
Just remember:

Re:Let's admint it... revenge feels good
Of course, it's also immensely selfish and one sided.
Not necessarily, at least in my view.
Consider a serial killer. Serial killers act on what is tantamount to instinct. After a lifetime of abuse, the behavior they exhibit somehow provides them with relief or a sense of sanity.
When a serial killer is caught, they should be incarcerated and every attempt should be made, in good faith, to help them deal with what's inside of them. If and when they're released, and end up killing again, one of two parties is responsible: the killer or the people who determined it was safe for the person to be let back into society. In this case, revenge by those affected by the crimes is a fitting consequence for those responsible. If the killer reverts or denies his treatment (or denies the reasoning for being treated), his destruction is justified. If the people who treated him provided ineffective treatment or made a poor decision about the killer's release, then they should bear retribution. Of course, your agreement with these results may be skewed by your conclusions about the efficacy of a given society.
The serial killer example is complicated, and was, admittedly, simplified in this case, but I wonder if revenge doesn't serve a purpose in society. Certainly if the serial killer felt that his society failed him by not helping him when he needed it, society needs to be taught, through force if necessary, to pay for its inaction? Much credence is given to non-violent solutions, but there is a point, when someone has been given their chance, that society, or themselves, would be better served by destruction or punitive action.
So, I wonder if revenge isn't something of an instinct, or a component of some instinct. If it is, it has already played a role in the creation of society.
If you would like to know more about society, revenge, and ethics, I recommend the movie Dogville. -

Re:Good deal for MicrosoftGNAA Claims Responsibility for Killing 3000 Blogs
GNAA Claims Responsibility for Killing 3000 BlogsGNAUK (the UK branch of the GNAA) consultant rolloffle stood ecstatically in front of the massive GNAUK London office skyscraper. Waving his massive nigger hands for silence, he smiled and announced with glee that the GNAA was the cause of the 3000 blogs outage.
"Well, aw'right, now aw'right! It's due to our persistent shitflooding and blogbashing efforts that we can claim this spectacular victory over a major epicentre of retardery! Congratulations, morons, for you have been pwned! Remember, regular local backups are your friend!"
Having concluded with these statements, the crowd burst into an ambivalent mix of outraged and delighted argument. rolloffle then unzipped his trousers and started to beat back the hordes of angry webloggers and journalists with his gigantic nigger cock, fleeing into a side alley. The massive conglomeration of people then enjoyed a spectacular fireworks display, sending the massive office building of glass and steel smashing to the ground and burying the suckers present.

GNAA OWNZ --- NINJAKGNAA Penetrates Popular Pirating Network
GNAA Penetrates Popular Pirating Network
By Commander TrollcoChicago, IL - The GNAA (Gay Nigger Association of America) announces their forcible entry into the Soulseek filesharing network. This action was tasked to faggot tar baby Lysol, who created the GNAA's first slsk chatroom.
This development is expected to make thousands of gay nigger converts as nigger-seed-virus laced mp3s and FLACs are injected into rooms Underground Hip-Hop and Jazz (Full CDs), among others.
GNAA member Lysol commented, "With our new slsk chatroom GNAA we will be able to spread our holy nigger seed to copyright violating music pirates the world over!". He then proceeded to fuck Jazz (Full CDs) founder Lamig with his massive nigger dong, making her the third human female (after the Olsen twins) to be impregnated with the holy gay nigger seed.
Already, signs of niggerdom are spreading. Last Measure is being distributed on the network by persons not directly known to the ghey darkies.
GNAA software development branch have created trollseek, which is a Microsoft Windows-only proxy server, which connects to SoulSeek network, and translates SoulSeek protocol into RFC1459. This allows connecting to SoulSeek network using an irc client such as mIRC. Development of this software greatly improved GNAA's ability to troll Soulseek chatrooms.

Re:Theory (and more theory)
Proponents (not perhaps without some justification, I suppose) argue that since no Americans want to pick strawberries or mow lawns for a living, without the illegal/legal migrant workers, the work will never get done.
"Free trade" proponents always say that. The truth is that Americans don't wan't to pick strawberries for the salaries the growers offer, because you simply cannot support a family in the US on those salaries. If the growers up the salaries, then Americans will do it, but that makes the price of strawberries go up. Then we'll just buy strawberries from Banana Republic where they're willing to work for $1/day and can actually support a family.
Those with the "have" are in a position to call the shots here. Or put another way, capitalism being tied to the private ownership of the means of production allows the private appropriation of surplus value. Companies outsource more for marginal benefits at best it seems, and yet nobody things to cut the salaries of the top executives?
You haven't been following the news lately. CEO salaries are out of control because of all the "good ol' boy" networks in these corporate compensation committees. Stockholders can't get rid of them because too much is held by insiders. Look how the effort to oust Eisner at Disney failed, and he's been paid insane salaries to run the company into the ground.
The problem is that CEO's and their ilk live in a totally separate reality from the rest of us, and have lost any sense of "social responsibility". And the last defense we have against the "aristocracy of wealth" is the estate tax, which the Bushies want to permanently abolish.
Also, there is a movie released in 2003 called The Corporation which, as one of its premises, stated that if you consider the typical corporation as a person and diagnose it using the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, it would be a sociopath. -

Re:Argh, no please!
Then please enlighten me. I am well aware that there are far more movies dating back into the early previous century that were good Sci-Fi (perhaps the original Frankenstein, The Time Machine, and Planet of the Apes). However, as I said in my post, these were all I could remember at the time of posting, and I knew I was missing a whole slew of other films. The three I mentioned I thought were quite interesting Sci-Fi films -- good enough to be on a list. It was certainly not my intention to snub the fine films that have come before.
Please share some of your favorite Sci-Fi's.

Miller's Crossing!
Hot DAMN I loved that movie (Miller's Crossing). The dialogue is for the most part flawless, the acting superb, some well directed scenes... but I don't think it's overly complex from a plot point of view. Several one-paragraph summaries over at IMDB.
Basically there's an Irish and an Italian gang in this 1930's setting. A crooked bookie is cheating the Italians, and they want to kill him. The Irish gang leader refuses, because he is in love with the bookie's sister. Gang war ensues. The lack of plot complexity is more than made up for in the character complexity of Tom (Gabriel Byrne) -- does he love The Irish boss's girl? Is he still loyal to the Irish boss, even after he's thrown out of the gang for fooling around with the boss's girl? Why doesn't he kill Bernie? The Whys and Hows (not plot) far overwhelm the Whats and Whens (the plot) in this film. -
Things to Come (1936)I find it hard to believe that this was not mentioned. Well, maybe I can believe it, as the authors of the list seem to have limited knowledge of the genre.
But Things to Come (or otherwise called The Shape of things to Come ) was so incredibly advanced for its time. The special effects are awesome, and the story, though thick with science and sociology, is very entertaining.
And let's not forget Transatlantic Tunnel (1935) , also known as The Tunnel. This has a lot of prewar propaganda, but is still an excellent story.
I love films like these, which were produced just before the burst of 20th century technology occurred. SciFi was so full of anticipation of the future and its bright promise.
I also love seeing the anticipation of technology and knowledge with which we are accustomed today. It doesn't bother me when they get the prediction wrong. And I do not see their predictions as old fashioned or silly at all; they were just as valid as are our anticipations of the events which will happen in the near future.
One of my favorite things in old SciFi movies, is when the Earth is depicted from above, when nobody on Earth knew what that looked like. It is usually depicted as more brownish than it really is, with fewer clouds. I have seen no movies pre-1960 that come close to the "blue marble" we are so familiar with today.

Re:'Silent Running' (1972) is the best SF of all t
When you then learn who was involved with the movie
For those too busy or cheap to rent/buy/watch Silent Running go HERE! While I do agree it's one of the best sci-fi films of all times it's also pretty dated and depressing. It really holds well to the sci-fi ethic. -
Re:Enforcement...What about "The Bad Lieutenant"
Bad Lieutenant was the one I was thinking of, too. Good flick, and in my opinion, it earned it's NC-17 rating. I thought Harvey Keitel did an amazing job in it, but I like most of his movies anyway.
Kids was another NC-17 film that wasn't completely bad.
