Re:Quick, not fast
The torque fade is (essentially) linear, but the drag curve is not linear. Here's a graph that compares the Tesla torque curve to a Camaro:
http://i.imgur.com/1vkYB.jpgAs you can see, the Tesla torque curve peaks near stall and falls off pretty linearly as speed goes up, because that's how electric motors work. The torque curve for the Camaro is different because gasoline engines generally develop max torque somewhere in the middle of their RPM range rather than at 0 RPM like an electric motor. What this means in the real world is electric motors have great acceleration but fade out at high speeds, because of the low torque at that RPM range and the exponential nature of drag.

Epistemic closure is not a good thing.
I'm torn. On the one side, harassment has been redefined on the Regressive Left to mean "disagreed with a Radical Regressive Leftist." So when I hear there's people harassing people on social media, I'm reminded that some of the professional victims crying about this harass themselves for victim credentials, while others dox and harass others while running an industry blacklist of their enemies. Both of which are allowed to continue unopposed due to them sharing the politics of the people running the site.
Oh, and that's not even getting into the fact that the biggest Radical Regressive Leftist "anti-Harassment" campaign, "Crash Override Network," is actually a fake organization dedicated to organized harassment and doxing of people. (Yes, the abbreviation for this fake organization is "CON," and yes, the founder is an old SomethingAwful forum troll, why do you ask?)
So yeah, giving these sociopaths more tools to create a hugbox isn't good. We just saw an entire election be decided because one side refused to step outside of their bubble for 6+ months at a time.
On the other hand, this will let me block certain stupid shit like "problematic," "mansplain," and "KillAllMen." And I suppose letting people block racist hate groups like Black Lives Matter can only be a good thing.

Re:Tough times ahead
Do polling results that give Clinton an 86% chance of winning the election just one day beforehand count as fake news?
Will the NY Times be on the list of publications prohibited from running Google ads?
It's either manipulated data, or it's grossly flawed and incompetent. Pick one. I would think either fulfills the criteria for "fake".

Re:Facebook affected the election.
The DNC had the opportunity to control online discussion but decided to correct the record against Sanders supporters.
You know, this is the second or third time I recall seeing that very same JPEG linked, but with the names and images blacked-out, it's impossible to tell who said what. Are you claiming a staffer from the Democratic National Committee made those comments? How do I know those comments weren't originally from, say, a group of cross-dressing rodeo clowns?
If you're going to use online comments to make a point, you might want to choose comments you can attribute to someone we actually care to hear about. Online comments without attribution to who made those comments aren't really evidence of anything. 'Some guy' said 'some thing' doesn't matter much, and only serves to weaken your case.

Trump could ...
Trump could destroy Net Neutrality.
Trump could invite Obama and Putin on a "The Bachelor" style third-wheel date
Trump could drop trou during his inauguration and moon the nationTrump could do a lot of things
... but I wouldn't count on any of the things I listed.First off, it wasn't an Obama thing, it was an FCC thing. So his decree to erase Obama's legacy won't matter here. Secondly, Trump is smart. Scary smart. Or he has some ridiculously smart advisors to whom he pays very close attention. His entire run was by the book. "Which book," you ask
... the book. Sun Tsu: Art of War (note, this post was made 8 months ago.) All that stupidity, all the sound bites ("mexican rapists"), all the vague promises ("Make America great again") ... it was all 100% intentional and by design."First they ignore you. Then they laugh at you. Then they fight you. Then you win." -Mahatma Gandhi
That said, Trump and/or his advisors are smart enough to know that killing Net Neutrality doesn't really get them anywhere. He didn't make any promises regarding it, so there's no reason for him to focus any attention there. And really, he's going to have his hands full building a wall and repealing health care. Comcast v Netflix is small potatoes that won't even register on his radar.

DNC Lost Facebookers.
The DNC had a strong foothold online behind Bernie. Large amounts of youth waited in lines for hours to vote for Bernie, do you think they did the same for Hillary? Trump had the bored, young, white, male demographic if for no reason other than it pissed off someone they knew.
And that demographic hangs out on Facebook, Reddit and 4Chan. Tada, you now 'control' online.
Meanwhile when Bernie voters logged into facebook they were told they weren't wanted in the DNC or in November from a few people there to correct the record.

Re:Why would I want this?
It's not a fscking TV, it's a phone, and a bezel is a feature, not a drawback. You know, an area that allows a case, (and my fingers), to have enough overlap to actually grip the phone securely
I don't get it. How do you hold your phone that you need a bezel?
Here's how I hold my phone - http://imgur.com/a/FOuhx - sort of how I hold a glass, with the bottom edge of the phone resting on my little finger, and the sides held in by my middle+ring fingers on one side and the pad of my thumb on the other. No need for a bezel.
Actually, I can't even imagine how I'd hold a phone that would need a bezel. I had a look online. Here's a study of how 1300 people hold their phones - http://alistapart.com/article/... - and it looks like none of the main holds need a bezel.

Re:climate change deniers (you!)
it is not arbitrary.
We have researched thresholds for various effects, including irreversibility.
The ppm level required to reach those thresholds was then back-calculated.
That's where the 400ppm comes from (no the calculation didn't result in precisely 400.000ppm), and why 400ppm is considered the threshold of irreversibility.Nor would we necessarily fine, nor would we better off.
We may biologically survive 1000ppm with only chronic nausea and headache, but there many other factors that would dramatically impair our survival. Now, you've made progress having advanced to Stages 4 and 5 of Climate Denial ("we can't solve it" and "its too late, so why bother doing anything").
But you need to keep learning if you want to progress further, because you haven't actually escaped denialism yet.To reiterate:
-We can solve it.
-And even if it's too late for us, or even our grandchildren, we can still solve it for their children or grandchildren.Remember:

Re:Reasonable People Distrust Computers
It's going to be a long road for sure and people will die.
What car accidents in the future will likely look likeIn this scenario a bus blows out a tire, crashes into the railing. The advertisement on the side of the bus and the angle it is offset to the oncoming cars creates a rare condition where both optic and radar are unable to discern a problem until it's too late. Due to government regulations and agreed upon decision scenario standardization the computer decides it is best not to strike the side of a bus but instead to swerve off to the side of the road. Since the location of the accident is on a blind curve car after car continues to drive off of the ramp onto cars piling up below.
This is a worst case scenario sure. But accidents will happen and will help us understand problems and prevent future accidents. Just like with the airlines this will become more and more rare with the benefit of saving 1,000,000 plus lives per year.

Re:Come on...
My issue is with the flavor of the month, particularly on mobile apps and websites. I don't know why there is a drive to re-design the UI every 6 months.
I agree on Ribbon. After getting used to it at my previous job (which really didn't take that long), it felt like a step back when I started at a company that still used Office XP, and it was funny in 2012 to hear the same complaints from 2007 when we moved to Office 2010, though the complaints went away within a few months. While I understand the desire to customize, most of the time Office 2003 ends up looking like this as toolbars get randomly dragged around and random addons get installed. I also can't stand Office 2003's random auto-collapsing menubar as it usually hides the items I'm looking for (though on my computer I always disabled that functionality). With Ribbon in the overwhelming cases buttons don't move so you can sit at a different user's computer and everything is where it should be. They also well implemented hotkeys (ALT+ hotkeys are virtually unchanged from Office 2003).
Microsoft's implementation of Ribbon looks like it's well researched based on most commonly used items before implementation. Outlook wasn't "ribbonized" in 2007, they waited till 2010. Windows explorer wasn't "Ribbonized" until Windows 8. Ribbon automatically compacts itself as the horizontal resolution is decreased. With previous versions of office, toolbars would randomly reorganize themselves and take more vertical resolution. Contrary to popular belief, ribbon takes the same amount of vertical resolution as the default toolbar configuration + menu bar in Office 2003, not more. Ribbon also can collapse (through the "^" on the far right, by double clicking the tab titles, or pressing Ctrl+F1), and will take even less vertical space than 2003, which is dandy when trying to collaborate on a high density spreadsheet on a 1024x768 projector.
I have seen terrible third party implementations of Ribbon, but I think Microsoft has done their homework. They have also learned from their mistakes. When they released 2007, they offered the "Quick Access Toolbar" as a compromise to complete customization. In Office 2010 they moved from the Office "Orb" (trying to mirror the Start button) that people thought was a decoration , to the "File" tab. They also added more customization ability. After Office 2013 with the ALL CAPITAL TABS, and the jarring full screen FILE menu this is questionable.
That said overall Office Ribbon has been fairly consistent since 2007. So if you haven't adjusted after 9 years, I should probably get off your lawn.
Windows 8 I agree the start menu was a disaster. Very jarring for a desktop user to go to the full screen start screen. All start menu folder structure was also lost. Classic shell made short work of that, though it shouldn't require a third party app. Settings are also a disaster. Half are desktop based control panels, have are slide in Metro style menus. Very inconsistent. To their credit the Win+X menu is a nice nod to power users.
Windows 10 replaced the jarring full screen start screen with a mini start screen that still lost the folder structure, has the search feature that was there since Vista (though faster in third party apps like Launchy), and tries to push annoying live content. Windows 10 also still has jarring desktop vs Metro configuration menus, plus the fact that you give up all control of your computer.
