I am running FF4b10 right now, and as far as I can tell, "App tabs" have been a feature since the onset of FF4.

There's some truth to this, almost like she wanted to get even but kept staring at his mug thinking "I just want his attention, not humiliation, there may still be a chance"..
What's funny is that the net has taken this and run with it to the point where Google isn't to blame at all. I was reading Beanstalk's SEO Services Blog and see they dug up the source and found the meme is already rolling along like Rick Astley..

So if you really want D1 while UI is being fixed go back to modal: http://i.imgur.com/2rZ8q.png or slashdot.org/prefs and select D1 system. Do not click "Save" on the bottom. Then just go to any discussion and it'll be D1.

Re:This is slashdot?
What's great is that because there is so much whitespace, you can actually add a pony and make it the largest, most centered element on the page without even moving any of the actual content!

The site looks fine under the current Firefox, but is badly broken under Seamonkey 1.1 (Which I still use regularly. Sue me.) See the screenshot here:

Whitespace alert! 30% in one rectangle.
This screenshot clearly shows the problem.
There is way too much whitespace including a single rectangle of pure
whitespace that takes up a full 30% of the rendered window! -

Re:What about FOSS?
The problem is that right now people can't figure out whether software is secure. They buy software based on what's asserted and take companies at their face values.
Nothing mentioned about FOSS. It sounds like the focus is on proprietary software exclusively, as FOSS allows anybody to scrutinize and code-review the source, making his entire argument invalid.
Oblig Image: http://imgur.com/Vnbwb.png
Sorry but what is FOSS? There only OSS "Open" "Source" "Software". Prefacing it with "free" is redundant and is used by followers or the GNU movement in an attempt to politicize open source. The open source software movement encompasses a number of software licenses and philosophies besides just GNU approved GPL and LGPL.
Having source code under any open source license does not guarantee that anyone will bother scrutinizing the source let alone contribute to it. In fact, a number of high profile "open source" projects only have contributions from the company that created the project so I doubt that code is scrutinized by anyone outside of the company in any great detail if at all.
Even with access to the code, the person viewing the code has to be able to understand the code or it is quite pointless. Even assuming that the person has experience in the language used, it is doubtful that they will be able to make sense of the code if they have never worked with the codebase.

Re: too helpful?
In some cases, they don't show a "Did you mean
...". It happens that search term are just silently chenged to what Google thinks you really mean. I've seen this depend on the context, the other terms you enter for the same search. On example, for me (using encrypted.google.com, logged in with my account. No idea if that changes anything) if I search for "worf" I get results about Worf the klingon (Wikipedia at #1). But if I search for "keylar worf" (I was trying to find out what the name of that gal was that he boinked on the Holodeck), the terms "keylar" and "word" and "work" are bold in the results but not "worf". Screenshot. There's no notice at all of the change.
Combine that with the problem that nowadays you have to add a "+" in front of half your search terms so they won't get ignored, and you get some seriously irritated users. -

GNAA Releases Groundbreaking New Study on Autism
Leon Kaiser - London, EnglandLondon, England - GNAA today released a groundbreaking new study by its very own Rucas. In it, Professor Rucas concluded that autistic creatures, and by extension, freenode users, could be replaced with under 100 lines of valid perl codetm and exactly 20 lines of text.
The GNAA study proved controversial, because it operated under the assumption that autism did, in fact, exist.
Prof. Rucas writes: "Our hypothesis was quite simple - through casual observation of autism sufferers on freenode, the premier IRC network for Asperger's syndrome and Autism-spectrum discussion, several GNAA researchers noted that the lines chatted by any one individual were repetitive in nature, and could likely be successfully emulated."
Prof. Rucas added: "Our methodology was quite simple. We quickly wrote a simple perl script to connect to freenode hourly, join a channel with at least 100 chatters, and, depending on how active the channel was, randomly reply to people with a randomly-selected phrase from an input file. We took the data gathered over several months and after averaging the numbers we gathered, we believe our results to be quite conclusive."
Prof. Rucas continued: "Keeping in mind that there was no downtime where the bot would stop chatting, we are confident that if such a delay were introduced to emulate a person being away from their computer, a typical freenode chatter could be indistinguishably replaced with under 100 lines of perl code and 20 lines of text."
GNAA plans to study whether or not autistic creatures are able to solve CAPTCHA in the near future. It is hypothesized that they cannot, as they are not human.

Re:Ethanol pluses and minuses
No, the big "bugaboo" is that there just isn't enough raw material.
Here for instance is a study which gives the unrealistic assumptions of SugarCane production/conversion efficiency, for half of all available arable land. And even then, with such wildly unrealistic assumptions, the figures are still abysmally low.
http://imgur.com/94nsn.pngAnd of course the already serious global scarcity on Potassium and Phosphorous.
http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2010/03/100311092124.htmAnd given the growing populations this planet is expected to have, it would be rather criminal to place event further scarcity on those resources.

Re:Do not want
Water is not an issue with proper hydroponic techniques. What you speak of is for traditional soil. Let us take grass, like barley grass. An acre of that takes approximately 100,000 gallons if grown in soil. On the other hand, you could do the exact same thing in an NFT system, and produce an acre of barley grass with a mere 1,000 gallons of water - a 99% reduction in water requirements. Of course, this reduction will vary depending upon crop type, but good NFT systems can easily drop most crop water requirements by about 60%.
Energy requirements for grass fodder can be drastically reduced, as well - http://imgur.com/mkCcF.jpg there's a fodder production system (barley grass) that uses absolutely no light at all. It's a specialized method my partners developed.
Really, resources are not the issue given our current technology (if the world were to adapt it.)

Re:Getting pre-emptive deja vu here...
"True, but how often have you gotten friends around the pc monitor for playing a fighting game together vs on the whatever inch tv?"
All day every day, because my 1080p TV IS the computer monitor and I have (and am still tweaking and perfecting) the biggest fighting game in existence with over 800 characters, you can't even see the entire character roster with the smallest possible icon size.
And you can't beat an arcade stick like THAT.
Any further questions?

"And no, you cannot build a 500x zoom on a P&S nor a dSLR."
Yea, umm, I can easily take a couple of TINY silver-coated lenses (to deal with optical diffraction,) and take pictures of roots with a P&S.
Here, have a 200x crop from a P&S (Kodak C643) with a specialized lens rig that took maybe two minutes to set up, just for you - http://imgur.com/Rqi9r.jpg And that was taken without a tripod, with my shaky hands.
These lenses have been around for quite some time, FYI, and they're not that expensive. Methinks your knowledge of optical physics is lacking.

Re:I've got a BETTER emergency rule for you...
How about we eliminate H1-B and L-1 visas and start hiring Americans again?
How about a middle ground: we eliminate H-1B (H-1B, not H1-B, and that's how I can tell you've never dealt with whatever they renamed the INS to after 9/11) and L-1 visas and start handing out green cards again?
You wanna come here and sling code for us? Fine. But none of this six-years-of-getting-expertise-at-the-expense-of-our-corporations and then you're out (H1-B) unless you get an extension through one of these degree mills. That was the same problem with the H-1B program in the first place: a quota of ~65K, now ~130K, and they were also all filled by bullshit body shops from India.
Those abuses happened because getting a green card takes years, and a company (and an employee) has to go through a year-long charade to demonstrate that "this furriner candidate isn't merely the best candidate for the job, we even tried to hire a lesser-qualified American but failed" (they call it a "Labor Certification"), and spend years more waiting for it to be approved, and years more for the green card to be granted, in order to get one.
The root cause of the problem hasn't been fixed, so the old abuses continue under new names.
So yeah, how about the compromise option: You come here, you pass the basic tests for H-1B ("Is this person qualified to do the work? Are they being paid the prevailing wage in their local area?"), you get a green card.
In the time it takes to hire an H-1B and walk them through the green card process, and then the five extra years it requires them to become eligible for citizenship, most companies have sold out and shut down, never mind most positions.
Give these alien bastards a shot at citizenship in exchange for 5 years of working here, and they might just sign onto that deal. (Even if what it means to "Be an American" has changed a lot over the past 5 years. If being an American means that when your boss tells you to do this to to a 13-year-old, you say "How hard?" instead of "Fuck you, Sir! I quit!", maybe it's not all it's cracked up to be.)
Disclaimer: Lawful permanent resident who can renew once a decade for the rest of his life if he has to. Was considering naturalization until two weeks ago. If one - just one - of the tens of thousands of TSOs across this country says "enough", and quits in the next month, and goes public with his or her reasoning, I'll fucking file. If you're a TSO and you're reading this: Yeah, that's right, I'm not an American. So no, I don't know what it means to be an American. You are. Show me what it means. You're an American. Act like one.

Re:You are on a limb
I'd just like to point out that the last post of yours that got down-moderated was a "The State knows best" - type post, which is probably more associated with the Far Left than the Right.
Tangential to the thread, but an important distinction:
Authority ("the Church/State/Boss/Father/Mother knows best") vs. liberty ("I'll decide for myself") is orthogonal to left (the interests of people who do productive work) vs. right (the interests of people who own capital). It is certainly true that there are two main clusters in contemporary American politics; whether our two parties reflect or create this dynamic is an open question. But to understand the issues, we have to see politics as multi-dimensional. (And no, the two dimensional "Nolan Chart" used as a recruiting tool by the so-called "Libertarian Party" is just as much of a distortion.)
The contemporary mainstream American right, which we can more-or-less identify with the Republican Party, is capitalist and authoritarian. It thinks the State knows best what sort of sexual and romantic relationships you ought to be permitted to engage in, believes that the state ought to have the power of life and death over citizens (not just in the death penalty, but in opposing euthanasia laws), and fetishizes the military chain of command, where the individual submits to the moral judgment of the State as to who ought to be shot or bombed.
On economic issues, both the GOP and the "libertarian" right of the "Libertarian Party" want a state that's powerful enough to preserve the privilege of the investment class (i.e., the capitalists). You'll never hear them talk about reducing government's power to enforce and create property "rights". The mouth-noise from the GOP about "smaller government" is marketing; their idea of "smaller government" is about decreasing democratic governance and increasing state-backed private power. (It's government cops who come to evict you from "private" property.)
The contemporary moderate left in the U.S. -- the center of the Democratic Party, to a first order approximation -- is more skeptical of the State dictating "family values" and deciding who should live and die, though there is also an bit of a holdover from the Progressive Era's Prohibitionist tendencies to save people from themselves. (It is sometimes a tricky line to figure out what's "saving people from themselves" and what's "sensible consumer protection against fraud".) This group thinks that the State knows better than corporate oligarchs what's good for the economy -- and given the fact that the economy has historically done better under Democrats than under Republicans, they seem to be correct in that belief.
The far left, though, thinks that rather than regulating them, we shouldn't have corporate oligarchs in the first place. While Marxists believe that the solution is a "dictatorship of the proletariat", the libertarian left understands that corporate charters (and therefore the stock market that trades corporate ownership), reserve banking, all the economic factors that concentrate wealth -- hell, money and property itself -- are either creations of the state or rely directly on it, and that disempowering the state along these lines is a more desirable means to the end of economic justice and liberty.
