Does this look ugly? (artist's rendering)This is a link to an Irish article about it. Top image is an artist's rendering of what Apple was going to build. Doesn't look ugly to me.

Re:I can't even imagine...
This isn't the first time some yokel has used planning laws and bent the ears of Irish politicians to stop a development project that would help the Irish economy. This foreign bloke killed an Irish wind farm because he didn't like the looks of it and claimed it would harm some freshwater mussel. Then this same daft American claimed that "climate change" would wash his land into the see so he tries to erect a damn sea wall. The Irish got the last laugh though. It seems that there's this tiny endangered Irish snail that doesn't like walls very much.
Something there is that doesn't love a wall...

Re:So basicallyI did and results disagree with you.
Much of the attention over the last month may have been around Apple's new iPhones. But Samsung recently launched a beast of a flagship smartphone that goes head to head with the best from Apple. After a couple of weeks trying it out, here's how we found the Galaxy Note 8.
As 2017 draws to a close, it's a good time to take stock of the current state of the smartphone market by examining the vital statistics of leading vendors' flagship handsets. Apple's iPhone 8, 8 Plus and X, Samsung's Galaxy S8/S8+ and Galaxy Note 8. .
.Samsung Electronics said Thursday it was planning to launch in the second half of this year a new flagship phone, leading to speculation that the company is planning an alternative to the ill-fated Galaxy Note7 that had to be recalled last year.
The launch of a new flagship smartphone this year and continuing sales of the Galaxy S8 and S8+ will help Samsung counter Apple’s launch of a new version of its iPhone. Apple usually unveils new phones in September.
Samsung does announce a S series phone in the first half of the year and a Note series in the second half," said Kiranjeet Kaur, research manager for client devices at IDC Asia/Pacific.
Samsung makes 2 flagship phones a year whereas Apple only release one. It's been this way for years. Unfortunately for Samsung last year's Note 7 was problematic.

Re:This might be part of the reason...
I modded so posted as AC!
From right-wing so it must be wrong!?
I consider myself left-wing, but fact is the fact, your argument just like German media, "you should not be convinced by right-wing populist propaganda, believe me!".
OK, if the links aarlin posted above is from neo-nazi, how about this:
It’s not only Germany that covers up mass sex attacks by migrant men... Sweden’s record is shameful
Now Swedish officials face claims of covering up migrant sex attacksFor the first link, it's so FUNNY that Sweden mentioned 'fighting Russian propaganda war'. I wonder whether if they found out the Russian sub? Oh, how panicked Sweden media reacted as they found a Russian sub sank in early 1900s? or French fighter violated Sweden's airspace was missed identifying as Russian one? or use 'gay ads' to repel Russian submarine?

Lies, I say ,,, won't win in the end
There are a lot of lies spouted during the Overall Abortion Debate. For example, it is a lie to claim that "intrinsic value" exists. It is a lie to claim that an unborn human is not alive. It is a lie to claim that human life matters, in the Grand Scheme of Things. It is a lie to claim that an unborn human is equal to a "baby" or "child" (both of which normally don't have an attached placenta as a vital organ). It is a lie to claim that an unborn human is more than just a mere-animal organism. It is a lie to claim that "human" is always equal to "person" (see all the human life, cuticle cells, getting killed during manicures and pedicures; cuticle cells have the full set of human DNA and modern cloning/stem-cell research shows that any such cell has the potential to act like a zygote --also see "hydatidiform moles" and "brain-dead adults on full life-support" as other examples where "human" does not equal "person"). It is a lie to equate "potential" with "actual" (do you, a potential corpse, want to be buried 6 feet under today?). It is a lie to claim that the finite Earth has endless food-resources for an ever-growing population. It is a lie to claim that fossil fuels will last indefinitely. It is a lie to claim the Earth is not currently overpopulated, when we have such problems as Global Warming, Deforestation, Overfishing, Aquifer Depletion, Farmland Encroachment by Cities, Topsoil Losses, Algae Blooms, and vast amounts of Toxic Waste being dumped into the environment as a side-effect of Mass Production. It is a lie to claim that humanity is immune to a "Malthusian Catastrophe". It is a lie to claim that unborn human animal organisms are "innocent", when they actually act worse than parasites (without actually being parasites). It is even a lie to claim God opposes abortion (see Exodus 20:21, in which causing a miscarriage can be associated with the arbitrary penalty of ZERO). When all the lies are finally extirpated from the Overall Abortion Debate, there will be no valid rationale for illegalizing abortion in this day-and-age.

NOT 74% as stated by inhabitat, that well known source of unreliable news.http://googleblog.blogspot.ca/...
The girls determined that the bacteria could be used to speed up the the germination process of certain crops, like barley and oats, by 50 percent, potentially helping fulfill the rising demand for food worldwide.

It revolves around their discovery that bacteria which occur naturally in the soil can help kick-start the germination of some crops by as much as 50pc.

Does it work?
I can see how this might work against somebody stealing a car as it is something that can be relatively easy to track. But tracking a person as they go into the subway is difficult or if somebody is wearing a hoodie. It still wouldn't touch the big players in organized or white collar crime.

Police spying on own Police ..
"The report in a Sunday newspaper suggested that the Ombudsman decided to hire a British security consultancy company after it became concerned that its internal communications system was being bugged.
The consultants allegedly concluded that the commission was being targeted using controlled technology, which was not commercially available or sold to non government agencies ..
A second wi-fi system had been created to allow the data to be examined, using an IP address in Britain while electronically concealing the identities and whereabouts of those involved in the spying." link -

Letter Signers Secretly Blocked Labor Mobility
Whichever side of the issue you stand on, it's worth noting that arguably the most prominent signatories to this letter and/or the companies they represent - Intel and Google - came under fire for allegedly secretly conspiring together to block worker mobility ("The no-hire paper trail Steve Jobs and Eric Schmidt didn't want you to see"), so a cynic might suggest perhaps they're not quite as concerned with labor's free-and-natural-flow when it doesn't suit their needs. Also, Ireland seems to be finding that importing tech labor isn't quite the rising-tide-that-lifts-all-boats that it was cracked up to be ("Ireland too scared to tax big tech, Let the poor eat potatos"), "Google paid only £5.6m tax despite £10bn turnover").

Re:Rich people are most dependent on government
What is it with people that take advantage of the high social development afforded by higher tax rates only to run off to a low tax rate area when they become rich?
Because people are self-serving? I know it hurts to realize this.
We really need to make sure people understand that ALL wealth comes from government.
No, it comes from the exchange of goods and services between people. Governments are abstracts.
Government makes sure your employees are educated instead of brain-dead religious morons,
So do industry standards.
that roads/trains/airports exist to deliver your products to customers,
All those were 100% created by entrepreneurs when the technology was new before they became critical to the general welfare (and rightly so).
that the banks holding your money don't have disappearing bank accounts, and on and on.
Preventing fraud and theft? Yeah, that's a function best left to government.
The richer you are, the more dependent you are on government, as a larger portion of your wealth came about because government made it possible for you to be wealthy.
Somehow, I suspect that the people who have no jobs and live on welfare payments are less dependent on government than the wealthy.
You can't be rich in a libertarian paradise like Ireland or Somalia. Does anyone even know any rich Irishman? Do they even exist?
Does anyone know what "straw man argument" or "argumentum ad ignorantiam" mean? Hint: Somalia is a anarchy. And Google is your friend.
It seems people become libertarian AFTER they become rich, as they have the mistaken belief that they somehow made their wealth themselves. They have no idea the kind of infrastructure and work government put in to get that one dollar to travel into their hands in the first place. No, the wealthy didn't magically conjure up that dollar into their pockets.
Ooh, another "argumentum ad ignorantiam" and a straw man. I'm a libertarian who earns less than what Obama calls "rich" every year. You're ignorant no longer. No, the wealthy don't "magically" conjure up the dollar. Usually, they have to spend a lot of their own time and money thinking of ideas (with their own bodies, that at least for the time being aren't owned by the government). If they have to take advantage of any government services along the way, it's because the progressives have already created those WITH THE WEALTH OF THE PEOPLE. So yours is a circular argument: we need to tax the successful so that we can have more services for the wealthy to use so we can tax them.

Small Claims has many faults. Big claims has more.
> whats wrong with the real small claims court?
Real small claims court doesn't spend much time on investigating claims. To clear cases quickly the judge quickly weighs up sides and makes a snap decision. Under the adversarial system of justice its not about finding the truth, but about who deciding presents the best arguments. That's easier for the judge, but it shouldn't be confused with justice. In some jurisdictions you can't appeal or even be told the reasons. The judge makes a mistake (they are human so it happens) you won't even know.
Small claims court weren't created because they are better than the bigger courts, but as a way of offering the little people cheaper although less reliable justice. The bigger courts are worse though since they are extremely expensive charging rates that cannot be justified. Whoever has the most money to fund the most appeals and buy the better lawyers wins.
Arbitration is in theory a great idea, but a big problem is that the arbitration system is taken over by judges and lawyers charging the same rates. It's sold as a cheaper alternative, but it has many traps. One problem is a big company who nominates an arbitration company (yes, they are companies) will pick one that gives them favorable results or they won't get repeat business. I loved Erin Brockovich the movie, but the arbitration system they used has been severely critcized by some of their clients. If you loved the movie then don't read this:

The justice system badly needs reform, but you have many politicians and lawyers doing very well out of the current system who won't give it up. -
Re:Wow
That suggestion was quickly met with a fiery and typically bolshie response from Brian Cowen -- the man on whose watch as finance minister most of the worst crimes were committed. "We're not fucking nationalising Anglo," he shouted as he slammed the table.
So what? He took his orders from Ahern, and Ahern set things in motion in such a way that a crash was inevitable. Lenihan then authorised the disastrous blanket banking guarantee after a tense and secret midnight meeting with the top bankers.
Context is everything. The comments were made in the middle of a debate about
....women who were forced to travel abroad for medical terminations when they found the babies they were carrying were missing vital organs, like brains, and were completely unviable outside the womb...what does that have to do with what I said? You're painting visions of politicians tearing their hair out over "fornication" when it was just one nutty backwoods TD, who has since been kept firmly muzzled by the party.
I'll just refer you and all your friends who have run off to London and transferred assets to their wives and children to this article on the grand delusions of property "victims".
Oh right so all of the investment property owners in the country have run off to London have they? What nonsense. You're again trying to paint a picture of champagne-quaffing nascent upper classes, when the reality is that anyone unwise enough to have invested in property over the last twelve years here is in deeper trouble than anyone.
The time has come for you to go back to reading the Irish Times and pretending that there's nothing wrong with the country.
And he finishes off by putting words in my mouth. I never said there was nothing wrong with the country. I said it was racist to stereotype Irish people as stupid, which it is. And if that's not patently obvious, there really is something wrong with you. Here try this experiment: replace the word "Irishman" in the op with "black man" and see how that goes down.
-
Re:Wow
The country was bankrupted by a lying scumbag (Ahern) and an incompetent Finance Minister (Lenihan). Cowen was just a puppet.
That suggestion was quickly met with a fiery and typically bolshie response from Brian Cowen -- the man on whose watch as finance minister most of the worst crimes were committed. "We're not fucking nationalising Anglo," he shouted as he slammed the table.
I must have missed the great fornication debate that seems to be taking up 100% of the time of 100% of the politicians in the country. Oh wait, no I didn't, because it was one back country TD making one ridiculous comment.
Context is everything. The comments were made in the middle of a debate about
....women who were forced to travel abroad for medical terminations when they found the babies they were carrying were missing vital organs, like brains, and were completely unviable outside the womb.More news you appear to have missed, the landlords of some twenty plus houses were forcibly evicted from their own palatial residence recently, there are plenty of unemployed solicitors, and even bankers have joined the dole queues. I know a few of them personally.
I'll just refer you and all your friends who have run off to London and transferred assets to their wives and children to this article on the grand delusions of property "victims".
Perhaps the time has come for you to take a good look in the mirror and ask yourself who is looking back, because its not someone with a firm grasp on reality.
The time has come for you to go back to reading the Irish Times and pretending that there's nothing wrong with the country. Why don't you spend today reading their latest barrage of pro Fiscal Treaty propaganda. And while you're at it, ask yourself where a newspaper in the middle of a recession got the money to pay for all those columnists and shiny new supplements.
That's even if you are in Ireland, because nobody here refers to solicitors as "lawyers".
It's a collective term for barristers, laywers, and crooks. I suspect you're friends with quite a few yourself.

Re:Iceland???Icelands economy has recovered nicely. So well in fact that it is making Ireland, Portugal, and Greece jealous.
Quote from last link:
ICELAND pursued better policies than Ireland or Latvia when the three countries' economies collapsed in 2007 because the Reykjavik government allowed banks to fail, according to a new report by the influential Bruegel think tank."
... "The experience with the collapse of the gigantic Icelandic banking system suggests that letting banks fail when they had a faulty business model can be the right choice," the report notes. -
Re:Old technology is often still superior technolo
In relation to your point about postal votes, they don't exist for the general public here in Ireland. If you're not in your voting district on the day, you don't get to vote. The only postal votes that occur are for people who are deployed overseas by the government, namely Irish military on peacekeeping, Garda members who are deployed as advisors and protection of state officials who may be abroad on the day or diplomatic staff (e.g. embassy staff).
However its not that difficult to commit voting fraud in Ireland. I'm registered in one district here (Dublin South East) but I've just moved apartment. The registration process for the electroral register here has a form for transfering your vote to a new district. But its awkward because you have to go to a Garda (police) station and have a Garda sign it verifying you are who you say you are, but to register as a new voter before an election (as part of a registration drive the government has before an election) you only have to fill out the form and send it in the post, no need for garda verification. Personally I can't wait for my vote to be transferred over so I get my RFA2 form ASAP to transfer it from on district to the next, but a regular citizen will probably wait for the next registration drive. Then on the day of the election, they could go from one constituency to the next and vote without being challenged as long as they provide ID.
But being honest, our governments have been a joke with regards electronic systems, between the E-Voting system and the Payroll system for our Health Sector electronic payroll system our politicians are going to fear bringing any electronic system for anything leaving us in the dark ages... -
Re:Hit them back
Wouldn't it be more damaging for politicians who supported high taxes to be holding considerable sums of money in non-taxed accounts?
What, like when U2 moved out of Ireland to the Netherlands to avoid paying tax?
Bonus hypocrisy points to Bono for saying that we all need to pay more in tax to help the developing world...

Re:interesting
Except that such small aircraft and airports won't be such a terrorist target.
I run a Transport Security Program for a small regional airport consisting of about a half a dozen businesses with perhaps two dozen aircraft in total, we operate under similar rules as a security controlled airport (except the screening points between zones) and I can tell you, we are a target. Within the last 2 years we've had 2 incidents, one involving a foreign flight student who had terrorist links and was operating under a false name and another where a refuelling company was hit by a sophisticated social engineering attack with the goal of getting information regarding their access control regimes for the actual fuel bowsers.
You're talking about the same people who are satisfied to only attempt to blow up a vehicle within a metro area and get international press, of course they target small regional airports. It wouldn't take much to organise a coordinated attack using small aircraft in the same fashion as this. -
Except, he never said those things... facts:
This is the same guy who has insinuated that George W. Bush is pals with Osama Bin Laden and specifically sent too few troops into Afghanistan to make sure Bin Laden escaped and wanted to keep his Taliban friends safe.
Do you have a citation for these claims? From what I remember of the movie, the points you refer to are:
- The claim that the Bush family have business contacts and personal friendships with some of the Bin Laden family - the friendships being so close that they affectionately nicknamed one Bin Laden "Bandar Bush". However, there is no claim, at all, that George W. Bush is pals with Osama Bin Laden. Moore does make a point that the Bin Ladens were given special "fly" approval and allowed to leave the country when everyone else in the U.S. was prohibited from flying. Given the personal and financial contacts that the Bin Laden family have had with Osama, Moore suggests that interviewing these people may have been more appropriate.
- The claim that Bush sent too few troops into Tora Bora, despite having intelligence that Osama bin Laden was there. This refers to the incident: "How bin Laden outsmarted Bush in caves of Tora Bora". Despite publically stating that they were certain Osama was in Tora Bora, only a special operations task force of fewer than 30 US soldiers was sent after him, and no attempt was made to close mountain passes with Pakistan. Several thousand U.S. troops from the US Army's Tenth Mountain Division were just across the border in Uzbekistan and ready to be sent in to action, but the order was never given.
The Bush/Bin Laden family and business connection stuff is documented fact. The President's special "fly" approval enabling the Bin Laden's to leave the U.S. immediately after the 9/11 attacks is documented fact. The decision to send fewer than 30 soldiers to pursue Osama, when they knew (or claimed to know) where he was, is documented fact. What is so outrageous about Moore's statements here?

Not sure what you mean by that, but, it's FUNNIER watching you run from answering questions, and to see you running from your own mistakes and outright blunders, here:

Again: Oh really? Where was that?? I did so using SECUNIA.COM's data (they're widely known & respected as a site for obtaining security vulnerability data reports)...
So - where exactly did you find some the german gov't. saying "steer clear of Opera" (which has NO KNOWN SECURITY VULNERABILITIES currently per SECUNIA.COM, and also was shown to be FASTER THAN IE &/or FIREFOX numerous times in reports & tests of that I posted here, repeatedly no less)... as well as my putting up proofs of the GERMAN GOV'T. STATING "STEER CLEAR OF IE or FF" twice?
Where did you quote some "security company" saying so? I did not see that (I know I did though, in SECUNIA.COM, in this very exhange no less!)
Funny you can't find the German Gov't. stating that about Opera - even though YOU said they did, & they clearly did not and your lack of proof of the germans saying "steer clear of Opera" doesn't exist even though you said so (though the Germans did about both FF &/or IE!).
