Try Tomato RAF
One of the best firmwares out there is Tomato, and its various forks like TomatoUSB. I am running TomatoUSB on my Linksys E2000 router right now, it's rock solid. For a captive portal specifically, there is a "Tomato RAF" version by Victek. Check it out here:

x-platform package management idea I'm pondering
http://piratepenguin.is-a-geek.com/~declan/freecd
I'm pondering a very elaborate (much more so than apt, more like Conary) cross-platform package management system that I would use as a part of that FreeCD project of mine.
Over the Summer, I might get a good move on with it.
Volunteers - people interested in package management on GNU/Linux and Windows (with understanding of Windows concepts such as the registry, services system, etc), would help speed things up considerably! Mac OS X and other OSes we're also interested in. -

You called? Debian Sarge as a matter of fact.

The universe won't end.
Isaiah 45:18 He the One who firmly established it, who did not create it simply for nothing, who formed it even to be inhabited
Psalm 78:69 . . . the earth that he has founded to time indefinite.
Psalm 104:5 He has founded the earth upon its established places; It will not be made to totter to time indefinite, or forever.
Psalm 119:90 You have solidly fixed the earth, that it may keep standing.

Subjects are pointless on Slashdot.
I'd just like to mention that eternal life on an Earth unblemished by sickness, poverty, or war is an opportunity held out to anybody who wants it. If you do the research you'll find that it's been common knowlege for some time.
The majority of people can't face it, though, because they don't like the repurcussions that acknowlegement would have on their lives. They prefer the false comfort offered by the "blue pill."

Vader-lantern
I carved a Darth Vader-lantern a few Halloweens ago using a pattern that I photoshopped together. There was only one actual cut so that the blade of the lightsaber would shine brightly, but it took about two hours to take the rind off of the rest of the pattern. Does anyone know if a Dremel (or other motorized tool) would expedite this process?

The site seems to be a bit under the weather, so I've mirrored the content and put it here:

Re:slashdotters are equally clueless
Why is it that people always generalize about geeks? Just because you can't get a date, have a body odour problem, and finding someone to talk about, it doesn't mean the rest of us. Personally, I am very happy with the woman I am with, who just happens to also be the hottest woman I've ever seen (Not in that "Yes, you're beautiful, honey" kind of way, but the "Holy shit, she's hot! I'm going to get her number if it kills me!" kind of way.) Maybe if you took a shower now and then, you wouldn't have such a problem.

Re:Remember America
Meh, the software will cause their hard-drive read heads to bash the side of the case until they go hopelessly out of alignment, and then with run "The RIAA loves you" ads on the screen until you run down to the local record store, and purchase at least 40 records. -- *Richard Fairthorne is a geek

Re:Insecure Networks?
This is an excellent point, and I think the parent should be modded up.
On that note, while you're correct that responsibility at different levels should be compatible -- i.e. if you leave open to "terrorists" (any malefactor, really) your resources, be they network or computer, you should be punished regardless of the type of system -- a more fundamental question is to what degree one *should* be held accountable for possessing open resources that could be abused. For instance, suppose you run back into the store to grab the bag of spinach you forgot, and leave your car running with the doors unlocked. A bystander sees the opportunity and drives off in your car, but in his hasty getaway he hits a pedestrian. This is analogous to either the WIFI case or the broken OS case, but perhaps makes the issue more apprehensible: should you be held criminally responsible for "abetting terrorism" because you "possessed an open system"?

Wow, very impressive!
For those who are having problems downloading it, I was able to get it from Kazaa. You can download it from me HERE.
