Re:So much for the 2nd Amendment
From the way gun rights people shut down all debate on the topic
Citation please.
I live in Washington state where last year I-594 passed, requiring universal background checks and even requires casually loaned a firearm to a friend or adult family member without going through background checks every time it changed hands a criminal act.
Prior to the election there really wasn't much of a debate... but not because of the gun rights folks, it was because of the massive amount of money being poured in by groups like Bloomberg's, out side simply couldn't compete. But then having the media also taking sides early on helps with that as well.
Even with the passage of I-594, one of the local stations now is living in terror of something that many have known about for a while, gun trusts: http://www.kirotv.com/news/new...

Re:Very curious
Re What in the world is so important about them? What are they hiding?
The tech is now very cheap (down from federal/mil/spy/nation only funding) . You are getting a lot of info about people, movements and their devices in a region for state/city funding.
Done with other tech you can get: passenger, driver faces, all the unique data about a phone, data use, location, duration, who is around you. Over time the next step is the voice print.
The legality question is that: fishing for 'anyone' or 'anything', entrapment, parallel construction vs needing limited roving warrant that has to show real legal results to a court over time.
The antenna you saw might just be for city wifi, a trail or any other cost saving network. Some cities police have used mesh networks in the past:
"Seattle police have a wireless network that can track your every move" (Nov. 7, 2013)
http://www.kirotv.com/news/new...
Long term what is wanted at a federal and city level is voice prints on file making any (and all) communication trackable as in the UK.
MI5 uses Army helicopters to track terror suspects (21 February 2010)
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/new...
Spy-in-sky patrols over British cities in hunt for Taliban fighters (3 August 2008)
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/new...
"They are attempting to identify suspects using ‘voice prints’"
"recently they have been fitted with equipment capable of picking up signals from wi-fi computer networks."
ie what gov/mil did a years ago over cities is now at a low cost and been slowly rolled out into suburbia at a police level.
Expect a lot more of the chat down option - one state officer hinting that their role in a federal task force is now a talk with federal law enfacement at a persons door. No court paperwork needed and a lot of tracking tech in the area. The hide part is parallel construction vs a real warrant and what any good legal team would find. -

HereI really love that last one, because people KNOW It's a glitch; they KNOW they don't have unlimited EBT funds, but yet they will still claim that they weren't abusing the system. Bollocks.
As for the statistics, I definitely spoke too broadly, but my views are still consistent because I have seen first hand accounts of this type of activity. I can't find any interweb pagez to support my claim currently, but I still stand firm that the amount of low-income subsidiary services are abused and we need to keep closing loopholes.

Re:Oh Boeing...
going over land was too disturbing. Too much noise.
Stop that right now. The "Too noisy" meme was started by Boeing to hurt sales of the Concorde, and it worked. You're still repeating it to this day.
A Concorde going overhead at around 1000 feet and normal cruising speed is no more noisy than a normal jet. It's the afterburners that are loud (REALLY VERY LOUD) and those are only used at take-off.
Too noisy was not just a Boeing claim. Early flights were not required to decelerate below mach 1 before reaching land and they sent sonic booms up and down the coast.
Sonic booms cover wide areas. Sitting 40 miles outside of Seattle one day I heard two large booms, and thought it was near by blasting. It turns out it was two F15s scrambling supersonic out of Portland when a small plane wandered into Air Force One's exclusion zone. Such booms leave a trail of 911 calls.
Eventually, every single Concorde route required subsonic descents and approaches for this very reason. For the same reason no country let them fly to interior airports except France and Britain.
The afterburners (reheat they called it) were turned off after getting off the runway before they hit the noise abatement zone.
With sufficient runway, they didn't need the afterburners at all except to break through Mach 1. -
cops, officers of the law enforcement.
Finally, a show that is the opposite of cops. They need a tune.
Bad cops, bad cops. Whatcha gonna do, whatcha gonna do, when they come for you? Bad cops bad cops. Whatcha gonna do,

Re:cell tower next to village
Some crazies in Clearview, Washington (illegally) bulldozed a new AM radio tower, thinking it was giving them brain cancer or something. An AM radio tower. AM.
If AM radio caused brain cancer, you'd think we would have figured that out sometime in the last 80 years we've been using it. Crazy people. Maybe they thought NPR was going to broadcast hypnotic messages into their brains so they'd vote Democrat.

Oh wait it was sports radio. Maybe they have an intense hatred of... high school football? Hell, I dunno.

Re:REALLY?
http://www.kirotv.com/news/20723839/detail.html this happened near where I live and the community has been fighting about these towers for years because the locals don't want them. It could very easily be an angry local who knew ELF would happily take the blame.

He's from Seattle
Of course this guy doesn't believe in global warming: the greater Seattle area got a couple inches of snow this week and the city shut down like a BSOD. I'm sure tomorrow he's going to go out and buy a 20kW generator just in case the seventh seal is opened over the weekend.
(In case you don't live in Seattle and/or don't get the joke: one inch of snow, and temperatures of 20 degrees Fahrenheit should not cause this much chaos. We get snow every year, for crying out loud.) -
Re:better article
There are many articles on this concept (see below):
http://journeytoforever.org/biofuel.html
With modern diesel cars and trucks it is actually possible to mix 50/50 petroleum diesel and vegetable oil. With the right equipment you can even run a diesel off used frying oil (alright you need to clean it) but it is basically free.
The only issue you may have is when the Government insists on you paying the diesel tax:
http://www.sovereignty.org.uk/features/eco/biofuel .html
In fact just do a Google search on "diesel cars" (refine if you wish) since there is a huge amount of reading on the subject of diesel and bio-diesel. In fact diesel cars are starting to become very popular in many countries, although the US and Australia are lagging behind but even there, slow and steady shifts are being made towards diesel cars. What slows down the purchase of diesel cars it the false perception that they are dirty, underpowered and more expensive. this is not true anymore, although before you rush out and get rid of your petrol driven car you should do a bit of homework.

I have a feeling that things are going to get very interesting, when petroleum companies start to wake up to the potential loss of revenue if too many people purchase machines that can use cheap bio-fuel. -
This is great news....
...because if the Canadians can secure their borders I'm sure that their newly elected government will step in with appropriate effective legislation that will take down the Evil Empire that is the RIAA.
I'll belive it when I see it.
At least this label is a hero (at least at face value):
Nettwerk Music Group has agreed to pay the total expense of all legal fees as well as any fines should the family lose the case against the RIAA.
Given that these guys are the label for BareNaked Ladies, Avril Lavigne, Gob, and a bunch of other Canadians, they at least have some money to back it up.
I guess they way I look at it is this - if they back up a few lawsuits and win, a victory against the RIAA makes them Good(tm). If they lose, say two, cases against some child's grandparents because "Suzie" or "Johnny" downloaded the latest pop rock abomination then at least there won't be a label fronting Avril L. anymore, making them Good(tm). -
Re:Lava flow
Here's an ominous image that shows some orange lines presumably inside the crater. I am not a geologist (at least not professionally) but I would guess that it is probably remnants of the collapsed lava dome (and technically lava).
On a side note, there are some amusing pictures from Portland on this site. Wish I could have seen it in person. -
Re:Yeah...
While I am sure the guy is full of shit, I do know that in Houston (and possibly elsewhere) there have been reports of "Sudden Acceleration." I am highly skeptical myself, but this story brings it to mind.
Here is a link to some info about a study of "sudden acceleration" and here is a link to a story in Houston. -

Here's a fun questionWhat if we make a game where the object is to shoot the chief of police in the head. Can we sell it to kids in Washington? OK, what if the chief of police that we're trying to whack is David Brame, the wife beating former chief of police of Tacoma, Washington, who shot his wife Crystal Brame, mortally wounding her and then turned the gun on himself, in front of their two children.
This is the same David Brame who also is accused of raping a woman in 1988. Of course nothing happened to David Brame. And the Pierce County sheriff's department did nothing about Crystal Brame's complaints because her husband was the chief of police.
Perhaps we can make the object of the game to shoot Tacoma cops, who are corrupt and Pierce County Sheriff's deputies, who are stupid and corrupt. Oh, and you could add Pat Frantz to the list. He's the head of the police union in Tacoma who has been threatening journalists and blaming the media for David Brame's actions.
Yeah, I think that having a game where you waste these useless and corrupt cocksuckers would be a good thing, I think that having kids play this game would be even better. -
Re:Comparison
Actually, I believe this is specific to vehicles... Vehicles sold in Canada are discounted $2000 or so because Canadians simply buy fewer cars. And that's why the import law is there. My memories fuzzy, but I saw an explanation of this on the CBC once.
That's interesting. I did a little searching, and according to this article, it's a conspiracy against the American people because they're too dumb to figure out what a car really should cost them. Buyer beware.
