The Apple Developer kit version of MacOSX x86 has indeed been fully cracked!
An anonymous source has sent us a video showing MacOSX x86 booting natively on a Pc notebook Mitac 8050D (Pentium-M 735/1.6GHz).

Boot Mac OS X 86 (Mpeg4 - 1,5 Mo) - [torrent]

As you can see the boot phase is rather fast, and the error message at the end is simply due to an right/authorization error due to the kext allowing PS/2 support.

Here is a second video showing the boot on the same hardware, the permission error was repaired. We can see the "About this Mac" panel, Apple System Profiler and CHUD prefpane showing information on the processor (frequency, cache etc...).

A patch for those kernels is being prepared allowing SSE3 instructions to be translated into their corresponding SSE2 ones.
GMA900 can be avoided by modifying CoreGrapics, patches are also available.

I agree with the lack of built-in support for turning MP3 to bookmarkable. I'll keep using iPodderx for the moment. My first try is available at Macbidouille and I wanted to say how these things are TRULY done, not some wild guessing/oversimplification/cheesy head-on way out.

1. Get a tripod and mount your camera to it.
2. Set up the scene. It works best if you have things exiting from behind the display.
3. Shoot 2 shots, one with the display down (or removed depending on your notebook ownership), and one with it up.
4. Take both shots into Phothsop/Gimp/Whatever.
5. Copy the screen up (present) shot and paste it into the image with the screen down (missing).
6. Perspective crop the image to the edges of the visible screen.
7. Delete the layer with the display.
8. Resize resulting image to display resolution on laptop (display).
9. Set resulting image as background. without moving your display.
10. Shoot scene again and enjoy the magic.

Depending on your patience level, this technique works for as many levels of transparency as you'd like to fake.

The only thing I want to see through a transparent screen is very likely NSWF and therefore extremely counter-productive.

Eh, maybe some of them are faked. But ya gotta admit, this one is pretty cute. Although, as a cat owner, I'm probably just impressed that he actually got his cat to pose.

Don't buy music from sites like the iTMS or Napster. Ever. According to this article French Apple enthusiast site Mac Bidouille, support personel (eg dancers, clip director, sound techs etc) are not getting their cut from legal online sales.
The reason? Record labels are unwilling to change their contracts, which ties royalties to the sales of physical media, not the song itself. That's outrageous. That's outright theft, pure and simple.

Don't buy music from sites like the iTMS or Napster. Ever. According to this article French Apple enthusiast site Mac Bidouille, support personel (eg dancers, clip director, sound techs etc) are not getting their cut from legal online sales.
The reason? Record labels are unwilling to change their contracts, which ties royalties to the sales of physical media, not the song itself. That's outrageous. That's outright theft, pure and simple.

FYI, French mac site Macbidouille recommends a fix: CookieMonsterFix.
I ran it against 10.2.8 + Safari 1.0.1 (v85.6) and it looks like it works. The readme says it works with Panther as well.

Just got myself a 12' PowerBook, oh well :-) Today I'd be hard pressed to choose -- one big plus on the PB is the *digital* video out, which lets you attach a Studio display. In the interests of Slashdot's non francophile readers and despite the fact that I might screw up some of this translation, here is what that item says:

I would remind you that the WWDC last year was the the time when Steve announced the first generation of the XServe in addition to Jaguar. Now, I do not find the logic here completely compelling; this could be just a price drop, or an announcement about software improvements or what have you, but WWDC wouldn't be a silly place to announce changes in the server line by any means.

On the subject of what rumors have been pulled by Apple legal, squiggleslash writes:

Actually, stories about G5 Macs have also been pulled from www.macbidouille.com, as has www.macrumors.com and www.osnews.com and tech-report.com. All of these were about 64-bit offerings being shown at WWDC.

Now, whether Apple Legal had these pulled because they were accurate, or merely scurilous but potentially hurting hardware sales, is another question.

No, they are both providing valuable information (the machines are in production) and they are providing verifiable information (they have a metalicized plastic enclosure and different handles).

Predicting something that everyone knows will happen eventually is not so significant as correctly predicting *when* it will happen.

Obviously. That is why everyone seems to be denying these nonexistant predictions. That doesn't change the fact that they are not making those predictions.

Also, I'll point out that until recently, not everyone knew that these things were happening. For a long time, the only people saying that Apple was within a year of release was MacBidouille, a Portuguese (!) mac rumor website. MacWhispers clearly has a totally separate source, and this is valuable corroboration.

All I'm saying is that MacWhispers is a fantastic addition to the Macintosh Rumors scene, and if people would only pay attention, they'd see the virtues. Every Mac rumors website begins in fan mode, and some of them improve. MacWhispers has improved a *lot*.

PPC970 Benchmarks

Quite impressive, I'm eager to see them in action.

The roadmap is also interesting, though still just a rumeur, of course.

Steve Jobs will anounce the new PPC 970 processor architecture at WWDC this summer. Prototypes of the machines are already tested, Apple is searching partners for mass-production right now, and the next major release of MacOS X, Panther, is optimised for 64bits processors. The PPC 970 compilers are in Beta state and have been seeded to select members of ADC programs.

Peter Sandon, designer of the PPC 970, has a keynote planned for the WWDC. I can bet that PPC 970 Macs will already be in production by that time.
