Re:What About..Here's a link to the NYTimes Random Login Generator
I only bothered to post it because the guy I'm replying to is a total ass.

Re:Could someone post the article here?
No, and no one's arresting you if you use someone else's registration information (or even randomly generated data) to read the online version either, are they?
-
Use the free registration generator
It baffles me why Slashdot continues to post links to the NY Times with nary a mention of the NY Times random login generator. It makes my perusal of the news so much nicer.

Re:Washington PostFor the NYT you used to be able to use the Random Login Generator. Unfortunately it seems they fixed that little loophole.
Perhaps all those first posters could actually make themselves useful and kindly create a new account and post a user name and password for the rest of us.

NYT Random Login Generator -
Re:try the usual test users
People generally use the same "bullshit logins" for everything. I tried test1234:test1234 and got right in! Slashdot should have a link to the NYT login generator.
It doesn't work no more, cos they put some funky referrer check in. You need to save it to your computer first. The link is here -
Random account generator?
Did the NYT defeat the random account generator? It no longer seems to work for me which is extremely disappointing. My personal information is far more valuable than the right to read a few newspaper articles. (Really, how does one weigh intimate knowledge to a few quarters?)
-
Registration Required ?
From the out_of_the_topic dept.
If you dont wanna register at NYTimes visit NYT Random Login Generator
But because NYTimes block based on referrers you got two chances 1 - Disable Javascript or a better one get Multizilla Toolbar for Mozilla
It has a nice option like "Dont send referrer" .
Choose it and boom you are in ! -
Random Login Generator blocked via refererAs many have noted, the Random NYT Login Generator is not working. The block they seem to have implemented is based on the referer (yes, I know the right spelling. Trying looking at the HTTP header).
To get around this problem, simply save the page to your hard drive, and open it from there. Your referer will now be some file:// URL, and it will work.

Random login not working?Hmm... they're ones to complain about privacy... Here's the story via The NYT Random Login Generator
It doesn't work for me in Konq, so I log in as 10101/10101. Does it work for anyone else, or did the NYT catch on?

NYT Random Login Generator
Hey, it's me. The guy who put together and hosts the New York Times random login generator. First off, thanks for all your cards and letters - I originally just created that page to save myself some trouble, but I'm glad to see that everyone likes it so much.
I'd also like to remind anyone who wants to download, copy, and mirror the source of that page on their own servers, or even as an HTML page on your desktop or whatever. It's just javascript, so it's portable, and that way you'll still be able to use it when the NYT lawyers finally get around to noticing it or they start blocking requests from my page or something. (It will also help distribute my load, though I haven't had any real trouble yet...) -
Re:so I have to pay?
An article on the New York Times today might shed some light on this.

Free reg here
Apparently Apple has not done so well financially for the 3rd quarter. Revenue is down 3 percent, worldwide PC sales in general are declining, the market is weak, and they had to lay off 7 percent of their employees in Sacramento. My guess is that they're looking for cash. -

NY times?
Anyone have a registration username/password? Evidently, the NY Times strategy has paid off, and major newspapers all require logins now. I'm aware of the NY Times Random Login Generator but I don't think it can be modified to keep up with every Tom, Dick, and Harry newspaper. Just think, slashdot encouraged it, with constant barrages of links on the front page.

Re:Once again the /. editing calls attention to...Way to go, troll.
Why do I need to be told a login is required? Won't I find that out soon enough?
Saves me a wasted click. Why should I go to the LA Times' site, and then be turned away due to a stupid 'free registration' policy? Wouldn't you want to know if a store is open or closed before you leave your house and head for it?Why reference the NYTimes?
You must be new around here. The NYT's useless policy has been mentioned many times, and people have implemented trivial workarounds. And LAT has switched to this 'free registration' thing recently. What's this "coping a pose" reference?
What are you, a prude? Is the LATimes copying from the NYTimes...
Seeing that NYT has had this 'free registration' BS for years, and LAT just started doing this, you make the call. (I hope 'BS' is not too hip for you...) ....Could the editor perhaps clarify their opinions in an appropriate forum,....
Learn to read. The italics stuff is that submitted by the submitter; the non-italics text is the editor's opinion/remarks . It is plain as daylight. Maybe you should lurk here longer?Oh, and by the way: welcome to Slashdot! Next time, pick a name and post using that name.
