Lesbian Linux!
http://www.lesbian.mine.nu/
Lesbian is a free operating system (OS) for your computer.
It comes with a superior package management system called porn-get... -
Ask and ye shall receive
Lesbian Gnu/Linux. Porn-get into it!
-
As usual, "Linux can already do that"
As usual, "Linux can already do that".

Re:Allmost noone ...
See this example: on the left is Bitstream Vera serif, on the right is Georgia, both the same size.
It looks great to me. -
Re:No obligation...
If they locked out people who run Wine from applying the updates by downloading them individually from the site, then that would be wrong
Well, that is exactly what they are doing. The installer just does this when it detects Wine. -
Re:it is important

Re:bah
OOoops, sorry for spilling the beans guys.

Re:I have to see this one!
the trolling done by IE developers at the IE Blog
I sure wish they would spend less time blogging, and more time fixing PNG support. They promised us working PNG's how many years ago now? -
Re:...and....
-
Re:1TB...that's a lot of...
By my calculations, it would take around 5.6 years of downloading thehun.net's complete list (without filtering) every day to fill one. Well, better get started! You could try Lesbian GNU/Linux's porn-get (http://www.lesbian.mine.nu/) or similar (http://pornget.myphotos.cc/) for Windows/.NET. Any others anyone can recommend?
-
Re:Inevitable comment, but valid point..Does anyone stop to think that there may be too many flavors of Linux for the average user?
No. I run Lesbian but a lot of people wouldn't be ok with running an operating system based on the male interest in female homosexual relations. An extreme example, but there are many like it.
-
And the left out the best one!!
GNUStep LiveCD - the coolest live CD of them all. Boot this bad boy up and enjoy the experience...

Re:i want huhuirc on my phone.

sorry about the broken link -
Re:AWESOME
I gave it a try with Wine, and it almost works. The pictures just never get added once you click the Finish button, and the import a whole folder thing doesn't work at all. Oh well.
-
Re:Finally
It's also sad that there will be a 6.8.2 release, and we'll have to wait for 6.9.0 for the merged Gatos driver. I hacked the Gentoo ebuild to fetch Xorg from CVS, and my tuner worked out of the box. Hoorah!

Re:finding files!-Storage.
The question is whether the spatial metaphor is always useful.
I'm convinced the spacial thing only came about because they didn't feel like fixing the tree view sidebar.. There's just no other reasonable explanation. -
Re:They have porn on DVDs now?
Sounds a bit like porn-get.

Re:Only 79 /.ers in six weeks. What does that say?
But does that mean that Lesbian GNU/Linux is not a "real distro?"
-
Re:Only 79 /.ers in six weeks. What does that say?
Seems to work okay. The window stays on top all the time until you minimize it, and its not easy to restore it once its minimized. I have to right click a 1x8 pixel systray applet, and click "Open". But it does run.

Re:This sounds scary
These maybe? I'm pretty curious myself, because nobody in #firefox on GimpNet seems to know either.
MozillaNews mentions a workaround, but that doesn't solve the problem for me if I start with a fresh profile, and I don't recall ever having done that with this profile either. -
Re:This sounds scary
It looks like it's got to do with what javascript is allowed to do with opened windows.
In my case, I think it has to do with my settings actually. At least according to the comments below. -
Re:This sounds scary
Gentoo here as well. Looks like IE in Wine is vulnerable though. Way to go Wine team, great compatibility.
:) -
Re:Sniff, our little browser's all grown up...
If you click the correct link, this exploit works as advertised with popup blocking on, on Firefox 1.0.
It looks fine to me. -
Re:Interesting....
Oh come on, give them some credit. They had to change some graphics too.
;) -
Still using....
I'm still using one to run my website off of. An extremely old dell with a PII.
-
Pong did it
I still give credit to pong for inventing it.
-
Re:It obviously means... so help preserve that by installing a copy of Lesbian GNU/Linux.
It's got a real neat package system called porn-get.
-
Re:Exactly my thoughts...
There are benifits to stuffing this in a db - think smart playlists on 'roids. I came to this conclusion from a different direction when working on a front end for a lan's icecast station. Now though I can use SQL to write playlists which is very tasty.

Morphix
The Morphix ISO's and derivatives are some of my favorite LiveCDs. I think my very favorite is GNUStep 0.5 because it is built on GNUStep; and because it has GRUB and parted and QTParted, even though the installer still uses cfdisk by default.
Close second is Morphix LightGUI, an XFCE-based full desktop system, since it's only 200 MB. Unfortunately, the ISO builds are very seemingly outdated. (Firebird!)
After that, I would probably go with plain old Knoppix, or maybe Gnoppix being a GNOME-ish person. -
Re:Ask Slashdot: Where Do You Get Your Porn?
This program will keep you stocked with porn.
-
Re:Thinking outside of the KDE/GNOME box
Have you checked out the GNUstep Live CD?
-
Morphix
I'm a big fan of Morphix. I've used Morphix Lightgui (Comes with XFCE) and GNUStep (The distro) at various times and I think the project is headed good places. But then, I haven't used the original Knoppix in quite awhile. I should pick it up again.

LastMeasure hits the 100000 watermark
Zeikfried - Reuters, NigeriaIn a self congratulatory press conference described by one historical analyst as to be "worth 10 Dresdens", the now world famous egalitarians of the Gay Nigger Association of America announced to the worlds press that their highly successful open source lastmeasure project has now reached over one hundred thousand homes across the world.
Amidst a snowstorm of tickertape and parade like festivity, Penisbird, one of the founders of the LastMeasure project, screeched triumphantly from his now gold plated dong perch that the exponental growth of the sought after shock site can only continue. And even those outside the GNAAs dark skinned sphere of influence can only agree, in the face of the cutting edge "xangadot" marketing techniques applied by GNAA LM sales reps Incog, Saturn, Trake, qat, and Zeikfred Tuvai.
The sheer ferocity of the xangadot effect has caught many by surprise, none more so than xanga spokesperson AzN_ThuG_08, who was quoted as saying "MUTHAFUCKA TAKE DOWN MAH SITE...BITCH IM LETTIN U...FUCK DIS SITE AND FUCK U TOO. I CAN MAKE A NEW ONE I GOT THA TIME u stupid muthafucka" before driving his nitroglycerin laced riced up honda into GNAA Headquarters in a suicidal and dastardly attempt to decapitate the GNAA leadership. Thankfully the 140 decibel exhaust of the now vapourised vehicle allowed the surrounding buildings to be evacuated several minutes before the atrocity took place.
Speaking from his converted 1970's brothel, overpaid financial analyst Gary Niger told Reuters, "The effects of what has been dubbed the 'Open Source Final Solution' can be felt in almost every area of digital society. A striking example of this would be the once worthless
.info TLD being re-energised with a huge cash and semen injection from the GNAA LastMeasure project, punctuated by Netcrafts recent confirmation that the GNAA has now gained a massive controlling stake in .info over the course of the past 2 months".Can this momentum continue? Or has LastMeasure reached its unsurpassable xenith, with the only way left down? GNAA President timecop refused to comment, instead choosing to bathe naked in a pool of Yen laughing insanely. The future seems bright.
About LastMeasure:
A primitive version of LastMeasure was concieved by Penisbird of the GNAA after playing with an AIM utility named AIM Invader. It offered Penisbird a myriad of ways to crash AIM clients. By far the most powerful crash was the "last measure" crash, which would inundate an AIM client with file transfer requests, buddy list sends, messages full of smileys and colors, until the AIM client crashed due to lack of RAM.
The LastMeasure site originally consisted of Penisbird, Goatse, Tubgirl, Lemonparty, and Shitfaced Lady. But has expanded to include many other of the internets treasured icons. And with the addition of StatsMeasure, the clipboard data of thousands of unwitting victims has now been exposed for the world to see.

Re:As I said yesterday...Totally agreed.
Too bad this is not happening, unfortunately. It's sad to see latest DoCoMo phones running up to $400 per handset in price, with horrible quality "2 megapixel" cameras that look shitty even downscaled to 640x480, 2 hours talk time, 24 hours on one charge, etc etc.
If any phone manufacturer is reading this, I created a phone design I am willing to license to manufacturers:

Please contact me for licensing information if you decide to produce such device. -

How pong invented the internet
This month's Wired magazine has an image that looks like a spider web tracing pong to the internet. Quite interesting.
Pong -> Atari -> Activision -> Infocom -> MIT -> BBN -> Arpanet -> Internet
Here's a link to my website with the image. Just follow the dotted white line.

GNUstep Live CD
It's a pity that, at the peak of the Linux desktop hype in the late 1990s, when evangelists predicted the near death of Microsoft, KDE and Gnome were rushed out of the door, and GNUstep development remained obscure.
Very true...
It is interesting to note that the new GNUstep Live CD was announced on GNUstep Core News in June:
What is it?
GNUstep Live CD contains a lot of software for GNUstep, a free implementation of the OPENSTEP framework (which was also the base as Cocoa in Mac OS X). Display Postscript is one of its powerful features. It includes an excellent application called Gorm for RAD (Apple Software Design Guidelines). More about the Objective-C Language.Features
Software using GNUstep (Addresses, Agenda, AClock, Affiche, CamelBones, Camera, Charmap, Cenon, Connect, Cynthiune, DisplayCalibrator, EasyDiff, EdenMath, Gridlock, GMines, Gorm, Gomoku, GNUMail, GNUstep-icons, GNUWash, GWorkspace, HelpViewer, ImageViewer, LuserNET, MPDCon, ProjectCenter, PRICE, Poe, Preferences, PlopFolio, Preview, Renaissance, Stepulator, StepTalk, StepBill, Terminal, TalkSoup, TextEdit, ViewPDF, VolumeControl, Waiho, WildMenus, Zipper)In development and not yet on the CD (3DKit, AgentFarms, Burn / CDPlayer, Duncan, Emacs on GNUstep, Encod, Expense, GTAMS, GRASStep GIS, GShisen, GNUstepWeb (WebObjects 4.x), GNUstepWrapper, ILogin, Installer, InnerSpace, LaTeX Service, Localize, MusicKit, MyWiki / MyLibrary, ModPlugPlay, Paje, Pixen, Popup, Position, Rhydot / Skfxdemo, RSS Reader, WebKit / SimpleWWW, Tryst)
The currently used window manager is Window Maker.
Rescue System (lde, gpart, parted, grub, raidtools, portmap, nfs-common, QTParted)
3d Software Blender, Wings3d, Games NetHack, Jump n Bump and SuperTux, LaTeX, TeXmacs, Emacs, GIMP2
Tools (screen, irssi-text, ngrep, tcpdump, openssl, ssh, imagemagick, netpbm, nail, iptraf, mc, gnupg, ibackup, cowsay, hdparm, feh, tetradraw)
The Debian GNU/Hurd K6 mini.iso for easy installation in /cdrom/hurd
C Compiler and development environment
Webbrowsers (dillo, links2), TV Software (xawtv, alevt)
Some music (www.chiptune.com, www.maktone.tk)This is a very interesting project, though of course not as popular as Knoppix.
It was the first time that distributed free software development defected from its proven practice of implementing standardized, proven APIs and technology (like POSIX) and created major APIs of its own. [...] Imagine the massive development efforts on KDE and Gnome, including the massive rewrites of their codebases, would instead had gone into GNUstep, so that the GNU/Linux and *BSD desktop would be OS X/Cocao source compatibile today [and companies developing for OS X port their software to Linux basically with one more compiler run]...
Imagine the efforts on Knoppix would instead had gone into GNUstep Live CD... Imagine the development efforts on Linux would instead had gone into The Hurd... Just imagine... The entire computing world as we know it would be completely different. But what do we expect? People have no idea that GNU even exists, let alone the kernel development! Just few days ago Slashdot posted a story about the Seattle Times interview with Linus Torvalds with this opening paragraph: "Linus Torvalds [pronounced LEE-nus] started a revolution of sorts in the computer industry when he created the Linux operating system and decided to share it with fellow programmer

GNUStep is alive and well.
There are a few folks intensely devoted to bringing GNUstep forward. Gürkan Sengün's GNUStep Live CD is quite an accomplishment. Debian-based (consequently, GNUstep is an 'apt-get install gnustep*' away) It ties together the most mature GNUStep apps with the complete GNUstep backend to give a taste of what's possible.
There's also a mini-iso for debian-hurd & ppc packages!! -
A couple more links
Read the OpenStep specification. Try a GNUstep Live CD.

Re:Don't let'em in.has been before and will say it again a community based
/etc/hosts file such as this one work for me. No need to communicate with people that peddle crap.Just ignore the crap out there.
-
Re:Exactly!
Right on!
I got my distro from here: gnustep
The distro is knoppix (morphix actually) based. I installed it to hd, modified the apt sources file and did some apt-get update, apt-get -u upgrade and apt-get dist-upgrade to get a nice debian without all the gnome and or kde stuff.
-
Re:But the real question is...
Does it go to 11?
man that'd be crazy!
-
Re:Backing up every hour...
I've been using Miguel Angelo Martins Leite Simplebackup for things like this - it's fantastic:
simplebackup
It allows you to do full, incremental or differential backups, run programs before & after, compress with any one of a number of methods, and works under windows & mac os x as well as linux.
I've got cron calling it weekly for a number of dirs in $HOME, and daily for my main working directory.
