Best of luck!
Link seems slashdotted, so here's the mirrordot.
While I personally hate MMORPGs, I wish these fans the best of luck in acquiring the game. Something as large and mainstream as the #3 MMO going FOSS can only mean good things for open-source in general.
What I wonder, though, is who would actually run the game. A perusal of your fandom of choice's lower levels of fanfic will raise questions of the ability of even the most enthusiastic and well-meaning fans to actually run the canon. -

Especially useful seeing the article is all on the one page. -
"Backups" re-defined
Reading the article cached at mirrordot
Amusing that the article has the word "backup" with a handy little tooltip thing which pops up and defines backups as meaning "Pirated games downloaded from the internet or sold cheaply"

For the lazy: http://mirrordot.org/stories/f63b1c65d3036adaf767
2 1715b4c96ba/index.html Someone up here has posted the entire content. My 2 cents, I fully support this type of censorship. It is in the greater interest of the whole society, and being in India, I've heard a lot about communal violence being triggered by very silly reasons. -
Site down, please change link!
The site went down because of slashdotting. Can slashdot authors please edit the story in order to change the link to http://www.mirrordot.org/stories/f63b1c65d3036ada
f 76721715b4c96ba/index.html ? Yes, it's at Tehelka's site too, but it's a much paired-down version and does not have the second section which lists and categorises sites that are blocked. -
Links to stories botched and slashdotted
I don't know what happened to the news-story link, I know it was there when I submitted it. Anyhow, Google News has many more stories to choose from.
The Improbable Results site I linked is very slow due to media attention. I'm sure Slashdot didn't help :).
Here's a Coral Cache version of the Improbable Results website and the list of present and past winners.
If Coral doesn't work, here's a MirrorDot version of the Improbable Results main page. -

Mirrordot does not solve the inaccessible video problem, does it?

am I missing something?
Since it's slashdotted, you can check it out at MirrorDot.
But I'll save you the hassle and summarize it for you: he takes a 12cm case fan from an old watercooling rig (just uses the fan, not the water cooling bits) and powers it from the 12V pin of the power supply of an Icy Box hard drive enclosure.
Wow.
Lest you think that the Icy Box is actually doing any cooling, it's not. It's just providing power.
Now why did this make the front page of
/.? -

"Embarrassing Mistake?"I read the linked article on Mirrordot and I have to say it's stultifying. Google added the "nofollow" tag to indicate that its crawler shouldn't follow the links on a given page. Some ignorant people apparently assumed that this would eliminate comment spam on blogs and other commentable media. When it became evident that it won't, it somehow became the fault of Google - their "embarrassing mistake." Spammers will continue to spam forever, there's no reason for them to stop. And this statement is even more stupifying:
Worse, nofollow has another, more pernicious effect, which is that it reduces the value of legitimate comments. Here's how:
So people only post on web forums for "greedy" reasons? If that's your motivation then I'm glad you won't be posting anywhere. If your comment isn't worth making just for the point you're trying to convey then I'd rather you keep it to yourself than just post to boost your own PageRank... your post is only marginally better than the spam you're complaining about anyway.
Why should I bother entering a comment on your blog, after all? Well, I might comment because you're my friend. But I might also want some tiny little reward for participating in a discussion, contributing to the content on your site, and generally enhancing the value of the conversational Web. That reward? PageRank, baby. But if your blog uses the nofollow tag, you've just eliminated that tiny little bit of reciprocity. Thanks, but no thanks. I'd rather just comment on my own blog. And maybe, if you're lucky, I'll link back to you. -
