Re:bad summary
Police are licensed gangs. They are not there to protect you. They are there to make sure that the status quo is maintained. That is all.
You must have seen this then...
I'm not entirely sure just how much bias this thing has as I am not in the US, but I must admit it makes me scared to have to deal with the police there if I ever visit.

Re:*sigh*
And nothing is leaked? I mean really, Not a single whistleblower in the government?
Nobody cares about whistleblowers. Nobody seems to notice. Nobody seems to care.
They don't drop the terrorism alert level, because IF they dropped it to its lowest, THEN an attack happened, they would be dragged in front of congress, and be forced to testify about why they are so stupid, then be fired..
Yeah, because committees of inquiry have worked so great in the past three centuries.
I can see how some people get ridiculed for assuming malice for what can be adequately explained by stupidity, but what you're doing here is ruling out malice for a naively idealistic optimism.

AT&T is not really AT&T.
It helps to understand that AT&T is actually the old SBC. The AT&T name was sold to SBC. My understanding from talking with former SBC customers is that the SBC trademark had little value because the company was so abusive. So, the SBC managers decided to use another name.
Those interested in how that happened can watch Stephen Colbert explain in a 1 minute 14 second video: The New AT&T. If that video is not available, try this one, but that requires watching a commercial. -
Re:And what happens after that?
What happens if you get "the rest of the word" up to speed economically to the level where they can compete with us - and note that economic competitiveness implies military capability - and it turns out that their morals are diametrically opposite to ours (e.g., "Behead all those who insult Islam!", as written on the sign of one Muslim protester)?
You mean, as opposed to those people whose morals are "like ours"? Maybe the military officer who "made wisecracks about the soldiers heading off to Iraq to kill some ragheads and burn some turbans"? Or forum posts like "Damn Ragheads! We need to simply kill everyone in fuggin Iraq!"? Or "Reaper", the Brit who says "I like to Kill Haji's, they disgust me"? Yep, them Christians and Americans and Brits sure are some peace lovin' people, morally far superior to Muslims.

Please blog, but you can't use the network!
A Marine friend informed me that this network access policy announcement completely conflicts with a new order for Marine recruiters that came out a few weeks prior to this message informing the recruiters to begin using social networking sites as a medium to tell the story of the Corps. In addition, Marine Corps News and Public Affairs have fully embraced social networking sites, and they have instructed their units to begin utilizing these sites as well. So if these commands have been instructed to utilize social networking sites, how are they going to be able to follow these orders if they will not be able to access those sites from their own office? Seems like there has been a breakdown in internal communication when it comes to creating policy within the Corps...

My favorite annoyance
..is when you go to a site, and visually, everything appears to be fine. Everything looks loaded up wonderfully, and you can use it as you please. However, firefox on its tab still perpetually says "Loading.....". I know it's ad-related. I just hit Stop and go along my way. Myspace is one of the worst offenders. guess they need more bandwidth to http://ads-featuring-gangsta-rappers.myspace.com./

Re:What about MySpace TOS?
I had the same thought, but surprisingly no. I think its mainly because MySpace is for shitty local bands to publicize music. That would be wholly incompatible with a non-Web2.0 friendly ToS.

O'neills - online? oooh... (Am a fiddle-player).
And one of Allan's aswell, cool - (my dad has my copy of Allan's Violin Gems atm btw).
What I prefer to do is get hold of music in Midi format, then run them through with virtual instruments in cubase - (some of Bach's stuff sounds great with the Pipe-organ in EastWest Orchestral (Silver)).
If you like Irish music you can listen to some of mine - though it's nowhere near finished yet - (need a new computer before I go back and finish it all off/re-write it etc.) - here: http://www.myspace.com/darrentomlyn

Is his illness caused by his abusiveness?
Interesting: Steven Paul Jobs.
Quote: "I have 3 kids (Lisa is not my daughter, enough of those rumors)."
Wikipedia: Steve Jobs.
Quote: "The couple have three children. Jobs also has a daughter, Lisa Brennan-Jobs (born 1978), from his relationship with Bay Area painter Chrisann Brennan.[43] She briefly raised their daughter on welfare when Jobs denied paternity, claiming that he was sterile; he later acknowledged paternity.[43]"
Wikipedia's reference 43 is page 2 of Fortune Magazine's March 5, 2008 article, The trouble with Steve Jobs.
Quote: "When Jobs had his own illegitimate child, also at the age of 23, he too struggled with his responsibilities. For two years, though already wealthy, he denied paternity while Lisa's mother went on welfare. At one point Jobs even swore in a signed court document that he couldn't be Lisa's father because he was "sterile and infertile, and as a result thereof, did not have the physical capacity to procreate a child." He later acknowledged paternity of Lisa, married Laurene Powell, a Stanford MBA, and fathered three more children. Lisa Brennan-Jobs, now 29, graduated from Harvard and is a writer."
From page 1 of that article: 'Pondering this issue, Stanford management science professor Robert Sutton discussed Jobs in his bestselling 2007 book, "The No Asshole Rule: Building a Civilized Workplace and Surviving One That Isn't." "As soon as people heard I was writing a book on assholes, they would come up to me and start telling a Steve Jobs story," says Sutton. "The degree to which people in Silicon Valley are afraid of Jobs is unbelievable. He made people feel terrible; he made people cry'
Another quote from page 1: "... his deployment of stock options at Apple and Pixar, which exposed both companies to backdating scandals."
From page 2: 'Jobs' break-the-rules attitude extends to refusing to put a license plate on his Mercedes. "It's a little game I play," he explained to Fortune in 2001.'
'One former board member described Anderson's role as "tantrum controller." '
'The company discovered "irregularities" with 6,428 grants between 1997 and 2001 - roughly one in six that Apple issued during that period. (New disclosure requirements after that time caused backdating to dry up.) The company also found no instances of backdating before Jobs took over as CEO. Apple was forced to restate its earnings, taking a pretax charge for unreported compensation expenses of $105 million.'
"Disney, which bought Pixar in 2006, also investigated and found a backdating problem there during Jobs' time as CEO."
Page 3: "Anderson, in an extraordinary public statement he issued after settling his case with the SEC, disputed Apple's exoneration of Jobs. Through his lawyer, he said he alerted Jobs to the accounting implications even as the CEO was in the process of picking a retroactive date for the grant to his top lieutenants. He also said Jobs assured him that the award had been properly approved by Apple's board."
Page 4: "It was a great speech, simple and moving - though it clearly left the false impression that Jobs had learned of his illness in mid-2004 and immediately proceeded to surgery, when in fact he had learned of it in October 2003."
I've studied the issues for many years, and have formed the theory that Job's abusiveness is possibly the cause of his illness. -

I'm with you. I've been using Ardour and Hydrogen for years. Also use Rosegarden for keyboard synth. My keyboard is a M-Audio 49-key USB interface, just plug it in and go. I've set up a few audio production systems for friends as well. Shane Bertrand has been recording and mixing his own music on one for 5 years now. A 10 input M-Audio Delta 1010LT sound card, Ardour, and Hydrogen are his main tools. They recorded and produced both CWO albums on this setup. They used 5 mics to record the drummer; Shane's modest system had no problems handling it all, even at more than 40 tracks in a song. He had a Sempron 2500+ and 512MB RAM w/ Kubuntu, just upgraded to a X2 3800, 2GB RAM a few months ago.

Re:CDBaby
I don't think the Major Record Lables provide as much as you're assuming. Yes, they provide promotion, but their ability is somewhat limited, as they tend to fall back on the systems they know and understand, and are hesitant to embrace the new ways of communicating. Worse, they tend to market only the music that fits their specific mold. If you're somewhat of a niche artist, they'll have no idea what to do with you.
An Artist with technology saavy will be able to put together a much larger footprint on the internet than the record lables could ever hope for. Using Twitter, a blog, youtube, an active website, myspace (shudder), and now Amazon, it's actually much easier for them to get their music directly to the fans, no major label needed.
A prime example of this is Amanda Palmer. She maintains a very healthy presence online, and is actively seeking to break with her major record label, as they're entirely unable to market her, and make money off of her.
We may be seeing the beginning of the end for the record labels. I can't say that bothers me much. :)

Re:Obviously fake.
And for the facts to back it up
Here is his MySpace
Here is his Photobucket
Here is his fiance's MySpace
And the way he talks about HIV, medical use of marijuana, and even Leisure Suit Larry all point to characteristics of a male profile.
Not that there is anything really wrong with homosexuality or bisexuality (I once had a brother-in-law who was a gay, wolf furry), but he tried to ruin the GGP's joke on association of gamers with fiancees by deferring from the standard stereotypes of male-female relationships to interject his own relationship status - which completely goes under the joke as finding a male partner interested in video games is much, much more likely than finding a female companion with the same enthusiasm. -

Re:Handbag Music
Excellent taste. What do you think of Coroner?
They rule. We were in York last summer and went to Hellraiser Records and they had a Coroner CD, RIP, so I bought it.
Back in about 1990, I had a copy on tape of No More Colour which I really liked but could never find any originals in the record shops.
Very, very intricate playing.

Lame Excuse to Pimp My Blog
...or at least one of them.
Highlights include the fact that Jack Lord could smell into the future, that Poutine is grown from seeds, that you can kill French people by carefully mispronouncing the French language in their presence, and that Lee Majors can travel through time.
Clearly I'm batshit insane, so thank God for bills like the one proposed, since I cause so much anguish to so many. I really need to be stopped.

Cuter than watching goats: bikini clad lawnmower service, video here. Also keep in mind that these bikini clad chicks probably have a better greenhouse gasses footprint than the goats. Well, maybe if you don't factor in the lawnmowers they're pushing, but those are easy to miss when they're wearing bikinis...

Re:I mostly agree.
Maybe I just haven't looked hard enough... but I mean where do you find a lot of people doing beatmatching and selling albums of it like they are the shit? Maybe I am kind of sheltered out here in Missouri and am only exposed to the good DJ albums, but I do a lot of internet searching for this stuff, and honestly, I don't find too much stuff that isn't creative. Maybe you should change the venues you look for good DJs in? Are you talking about stuff like Girl Talk? I mean is that where wea re disagreeing? Also, live beatmatching at the club is super tight. Anyway, cheers mate. I certainly don't mind agreeing to disagree; I am seriously just curious.

Re:Crazy Thought!
Just because you don't get it doesn't mean that it isn't creative. You don't even understand what you are talking about. You've obviously never listened to many DJs, or you would know shit like that is so creative: Mick Boogie, Kruder & Dorfmeister, DJ Benzi, Amplive, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Crookers, Diplo, DJ Danger Mouse, Wax Tailor, N.A.S.A., etc., etc., etc. And that's just off the toppa my head.
Stop hatin'! (It is verifiably bad for your health to harbor strong emotions based on nothing but some desire to protect a fragile ego.) Being a DJ is far more than playing music for people (although it is also very much playing music for people). It is moving people and entertaining them throughout an evening and keeping them dancing and psyched out about hearing all the bagin' beats and their favorites and new tracks. It's about hyping new artists and producing beats for them so that more people can hear music they like. It is about remixing and producing tracks featuring a variety of vocalists and instrumentalists. It is about evoking emotion on and off the dance floor and showing people another perspective on a beat or vocal hook they thought they knew inside and out. It's fine if you don't like the music, but to call something you know nothing about uncreative is just, well, hubris! -

The band Primus bought a Ozzie comm company? Doubtful they would have volunteered to do anything with the government, unless it was to discredit this (likely).
Or is it the transformers in disquise, Optimus Primus? Which then begs another q, which is the real identity. Optimus Primus is either some buyer on Amazon, or some yank from MySpace with a few hot femme friends?
But this all still doesn't answer the base question; why is Australia still even considering this steaming pile or Wallaby feces?
