Or search for site://myspace.com "died in a blogging accident" and ignore the first result. They're pretty disappointing if you're expecting to read some grisly tale of someone dying in a blogging accident. -
Original Results
I think I found the original 2 results of the search, when the number of results was still down at 12. Both results pointed to this blog: http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=59755147&blogID=106406778

Re:It's due to the death in China and Digg
For what it's worth, I (like many others) searched it while there were still only the two matches. Both were references to the same Myspace post. I don't think anything relating to the incident you mention would describe it as an 'accident.'

Re:An indie musician
The problem with your friend is that noone could care less.
It does not matter if this is a very good idea, it does not matter if it is good music neither it will matter if it's awayable in the shop at any price level.
Unless your friend is sponsored by some BIG oligopolist wasting some money on promotion the public will not look after the disk. You see I am convinced that there is a limited space for music in the average consumer and by filling that up with payola and MTV corporations instaurate a "de facto" monopoly on demand. Anyway... I've got Indie friends too and they're not releasing anything: http://www.myspace.com/theheatwaves (Downloads for free, no scratch cards) -
Worlds Best RV...
Is written about in detail on my blog:
http://blog.myspace.com/khanz
Most of societies problems would probably be solved by mass production of Zeppelin houses. This may not seem realistic or reasonable to non-visionaries or cynics, but I really believe it, and have plenty of rational observation to back up this claim. Since the entire skin of the zeppelin would be cheap solar panels, the electricity used in the zeppelin (including lighting, heating, transportation, television) would mostly be environmentally friendly (and free!), and since the very nature of a vehicle by design is to be mobile, everyone would be effectively living "off the grid" which would translate into other environmental benefits, and better and more reliable power in the case of emergencies. Speaking of emergencies, Zeppelins are pretty much earth quake proof, tsunami proof, and brush fire proof, and with a reasonably good weather report, you could probably avoid most tornadoes and hurricanes by simply flying somewhere else for a while. In addition, zeppelins are slow, and, do not carry much momentum, so "traffic" accidents would probably be very rarely fatal for anyone involved, and with the wifi/gps/radar navigation system I have in mind would probably be extremely uncommon anyway. By removing cars and housing and the entire electrical grid out of the equation we have essentially solved global warming, traffic fatalities, homelessness, and maybe eventually even poverty altogether.
Now the biggest benefit though of living in a TRULY mobile home (and a home that was FREE to move, and could move over water, land, ice, and mountains!), is that in the event of a war, you could easily just fly somewhere else. In fact, at some point this evolutionary step from living in huts on land to yachts in the sky could prove to be the end of war completely. What's the use in fighting over land, when you live in the sky? The only thing to bother with of value on the land is going to be fruit, meat, vegetables, and water, and I think that those can be had fairly cheaply still, and will probably become even cheaper if our society chooses to make this transcendental step forward.
Myself personally I've been a fan of many places on the planet, and would love to be able to flit hither and thither with the comfort of my own bed, computer, closet, shower, and toilet immediately with me. I'd most especially like to do so while not paying rent, paying for hotels, and while having my own kitchen and fresh produce. I also would like to surf the internet, lounge in the hot tub, take a nap, play violin, or play mario kart while my home travels between Hawaii, Oregon, New York, Alaska, San Diego, and Ireland on the free power of natural sun light, and automatically by GPS auto pilot, and radar and wifi collision avoidance. Further, I'd like to enjoy the sunset and sunrise at all of these locations from a spot in the air, and maybe even on the top of my zeppelin on the sun deck that I have planned there, amongst the clouds and fresh perfect air free from the pollutants that rule our current carbon based economy.
The most frustrating part about this whole zeppelin utopia that I've created and have already been living in in my own mind, is that it's entirely feasible. Not just feasible, but almost childishly simple. It's a simple matter of running some numbers, running some computer simulations, and building/buying a factory and changing everybody's world, for the better. No more commutes, no more traffic, no more pollution, no more housing bubbles, no more traffic accidents, no more corporate slavery, no more censorship, no more war, no more poverty, no more stress, and probably eventually no more misery or suicide or prescription drugs like oxycontin (sp?). Just 6 billion happy people living with their families in luxury liners in the sky, with free electricity, internet, and water, drifting along in the sunshine from organic fruit stand to organic steak house to Irish pub for a night of -

Eerily familiar
Whether it's all crack-pot non-science or not, there are parts of this that are eerily similar to something I wrote in November (minus the techno-bable) here: http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=21951148&blogID=333457920 which I also plugged on a post here of which I quickly got knocked down to troll level (for the comment, not the link) Just sayin'. Mixtapes. I fucking love mixtapes. DJ Crazy Chris' "Eminelton," Von Pea's "American Angster", Mick Boogie's "DILLAGENCE," Danger Mouse's "Grey Album," and of course Diplo's "Pricay Funds Terrorism" are some of my recent favorites (the last two are out there floating around on the internet if you look hard enough). Seriously. If the labels would release shit this tight, well, but they wouldn't, would they?

Brawndo and Idiocracy
As far as the movie goes, I think those who find it downscale have missed the picture, Lamarckian dynamics notwithstanding. As far as Brawndo goes it is effing brilliant as a market wedge in a highly competitive market. Redux has someone completely brill in their top marketing group. The drink itself? Terrific -- tastes all right and actually does boost the energy in a slow, stable, cheery sort of way. Beats Red Bull hollow. Their Bizarro Idiocracy-inspired ad. Their Myspace page. A

Re:Well, I AM from Portland, and it's in my hood
I'm so damn glad this finally made it to Slashdot! Very cool!
It should be pointed out that the Aaron Duran (the main guy behind the project) is going about this street renaming the proper way. He is raising money for the $1,000 fee, filling out the paper work, seeking support of Douglas Adams' surviving family, seeking comment from local public and businesses. Meanwhile, the Cesar Chavez rename was being ramrodded through by the city council without any of the necessary legal bureaucracy. I can see why some people might not like the idea of renaming a street after Cesar Chavez, but I think the main problem a lot of people had with it is not the idea, but the way it was being pursued.
It should also be noted that should the rename fail, the money donated to the effort will be re-directed to a fund for saving Rhinos (which Adams was a big fan of).
As a native Portlander, I truly hope this succeeds. If any city embraces his mentality and his work, it has to be Portland. Even though some business guy commented in a news article about the difference between renaming a street after "galaxies and space and stuff" and suggesting that Douglas Adams was not a real person. Seriously . . . WTF?
If you're interested in keeping informed, there's also a MySpace page for the effort:

Viva la HAM
HAM/Shortwave radio was the web. My older brother received one for a gift on his 10th birthday. I remember listening to late night, anonymous conversations taking place somewhere in space - and halfway around the world. We would fall asleep to global station ids, appalachian preachers, data transfers and space noise. we'd tune in to eastern bloc radio and wonder how it was that they could be "evil communists" (keep in mind, that is the early 70's). When I was a teenager, I learned how to play "Stairway to Heaven" with the BFO Pitch. While I wasn't a techie with it, my experience was truley amazing and wonderful.
Years later, I dug it out the attic and and hooked it up to some effects processors and ran it thru a dj mixer with some foot pedals. Beyond providing otherworldly broadcasts it produced sweeps that were so ridulously thick and warm. It actually has made it onto a couple of our recordings (MySpace) over the years. The sad thing is that being on the road, it is kind of beat up and needs a bit of TLC ... guess that means it is time. -
Intolerance
Wow. Some great comments already. It goes to show that geeks can be as intolerant as anybody else. Let's change this story a little:
"Texas' Director of Science Curriculum was 'forced to step down' for favoring inelligent design (ID) over evolution. She apparently circulated an e-mail that was critical of evolution -- although state regulations require her not to have any opinion 'on a subject on which the agency must remain neutral.'
I can hear the cheers already. Some people really need to accept that it's okay for others to beleive in ID, and let them. Should this employee have been sharing opinions on the subject with co-workers? Probably not.
If you want my opinion, and for a shameless plug, I wrote about this subject just yesterday:

Re:What is Facebook?
I really think that perhaps people don't understand that social networking sites should really be used just for that - social networking. Personal blogging has its place, I suppose, but it really just feels like an orgy of narcissism to me.
Just remember: social networking sites are fine for that purpose, PLEASE don't tell me about the time when your kid blew snot on your cat and you pet the cat and wiped your face with that hand right before your mistress kissed you and got a mouthful of baby snot! I don't want to know!
Speaking of Social Networking, check out my brother's band "At the Stars" on myspace.com. This, in my opinion, is one of the better uses of a social networking site, and the only reason I joined up (to promote my brother's band) -

Re:college radio
kcrw.com (I just listen to it on the radio, but they have an online counterpart.)
A lot of new (I assume, non-RIAA) music gets filtered to the American mainstream through here (e.g. Coldplay). Jesca Hoop is the latest indie star to come up through their farm system. Also discovered interesting DJ/mashup stuff like The Arbiters there. ("Sure Side of Fame" is a little masterpiece of the genre.)
Unfortunately, I suspect most the unknowns who do really break through eventually end up in the RIAA's net. -
Project Playlist?
I just started poking around http://www.projectplaylist.com/ Don't know yet if it's worth much or not, but it might be worth a try.
I hate to admit I use it at all, but the music on myspace has some okay stuff. Just poke around the bands' pages and see what you get. Find a local band you may or may not know and follow their "friends" links, especially some of the smaller show producers and such. If you like metal, start with http://www.myspace.com/coldethylmusic (shameless plug, my tattoo artist is the drummer). -
Re:My fear
There are so many things to work with here.
First, I could go any number of ways with the kittens. There is the obvious humor of when kittens aren't safe Or you could take another approach and kinda reverse what you said...but what about kittens strapped to 15 gallon gas tanks or even what about kittens with frickin laser beams?
The other thing is that I can belittle your comment about the obvious contradictory logic of "combustable liquids" "sucking."
Either way, I think you totally missed the point as kittens cannot (at least in the developed world) even operate a vehicle whether it be gas operated or battery powered. But even if they could, there aren't that many media outlets that are dedicated solely to kitten news...so even if said accident occurred, then I doubt that many people (erm, kittens) would even notice.
You, TnkMkr, is what is wrong with the world today. You are creating problems that don't (or in this case can't) even exist. You must work for a big oil company, whose board of directory are the same as M$, who we all know kills kittens...coincidence, I think not!!! -

Re:Maybe... Illegal where? In the days before big mega media corps, many bands released their music to their local radio stations for this recognition. When was the last time you heard one on your local radio?
I'm a DJ at WTUL in New Orleans, and I can assure you the non-payola, independent driven radio market is still out there. We have two two-hour local shows devoted to only playing New Orleans local music and we never play top 40 hits any time of the week! We play local bands like Morning 40 Federation, the New Orleans Bingo! Show, the Ballywho, and Quintron which are just the tip of a very weird and wacky totally commercial-free music scene down here. We get these records straight from the artists, too! Often we bring them into the studio and have them bang a number out once and awhile even... I'm proud to be a part of a system that is pulling by its own bootstraps and making art and music for its own sake! -

So, digital media will be there 6 months after the comics, with current release schedules that's around the time the trade paperbacks are already out. Thanks but no thanks. I'll stick to torrents for new releases and albums for the good ones. Are new books going to be showing up as they're published?
John Dokes: Not as they're published. There's probably going to be about a six-month lag between the time a book appears in print and the time it appears in this service. In some cases, we will have books that are more recent than that, but that will be specifically promoting what's happening in the print books.

Re:Real reason for his name...Statement taken from the band's myspace page:
Today an 18-year old man shot seven people in a high school massacre in Tuusula, Finland. The killer referred to himself as "Sturmgeist89" on YouTube. Sturmgeist is not only the name of my band, but also of a character in the video game "Medal of Honor". As of yet, it is not established wherefrom the murderer took the name. Understandably, journalists keep calling me, eager to prove a link between my band and the massacre. However, as an artist, I can neither control the actions of my fans nor be held responsible for them.
It is my firm conviction that if somebody wishes to go down as the cause of a massacre like that in Tuusula, explanations beyond music must be sought. In an interview with the Oslo-based newspaper Dagbladet today I argue that although extreme metal as a genre deals with topics such as isolation, misanthropy and despair, blaming the musicians is both wrong and unfair. It is people that kill people. Not music.
Extreme metal has a potential both for social comment and personal katharsis, given its dealing with problems ordinarily shunned by mainstream society: suicide, madness, pollution, violence, warfare and drug abuse all occur regularly in extreme metal lyrics, mostly subject to critical scrutiny.
I do recall how lonely and isolated I felt as a teenager, how strong an impact music had on my life. Extreme metal helped me channel my aggression in a constructive way; where Slayer's album "Seasons in the Abyss" described the psychology of a mass murderer, Cannibal Corpse's "The Bleeding" gave graphic accounts of extreme violence. Even though I adored both albums, I did not go out and kill people.
Knowing the boundary between fiction and reality was always a prerequisite for dealing with dark matters in music, literature, film and video games. It seems obvious that the Tuusula murderer was ignorant about this boundary.
The lyrics of Sturmgeist do contain topics both sinister and martial. Topics such as WWI & WWII ("Triumph", "Enigma"), the war in Iraq ("Shock & Awe", "Iron Hammer"), Viking battle ("Army of Odin"), a victim exerting revenge on his tormentor ("Ruger"). I readily admit it. Saying anything else would not only be a blatant lie; worse, it would be betraying the music I love and believe in.
I am most shocked by the tragic event in Finland, and mourn the victims of the crime. I believe that the victims could have been alive today, if youngsters on the edge were given more attention by the proper instances. I extend my compassion and my condolences to the families of the deceased.

Re:My Indie Band Tried this as an Experiment -ResuHey, I couldn't help but notice you are a fellow MN band. That's freakin' sweet; my band is based in MN too. I also see you're playing Station-4 soon. We're playing it on the 16th of this month. Check us out, we're called Darkfold and we're always looking for a chance to play. So if you need another band to round out a bill feel free to contact us.
I think we will be taking a similar self-released route for our album. I'm sure we won't get radiohead-sized numbers, but I'd like to get it to as many people as possible. I think bittorrent might be the ideal solution, but making money that way seems impossible. Touring would be a great way to make money, but we have dayjobs and nobody knows who we are. It's basically a Catch-22 for bands unwilling to sign to a label. I hope somebody comes up with a brilliant way to shine some light on all the great unknown bands out there. I happen to know there are a shitload of incredible bands in Minnesota that nobody knows about. Not only does it suck for the unknown bands it also sucks for all their potential fans out there who are missing out on all that great music.

It helps the non-RIAA labels more
The RIAA is well aware that p2p sells more CDs, their problem it it's often not their CDs.
My CD purchasing has vastly increased since I've been able to try before I buy using p2p... but I've mostly been discovering wonderful but tiny non RIAA labels, and unsigned bands who put out their own CDs, instead of blindly buying whatever lowest common denominator act the RIAA cartel is pushing with a recoupable advertising budget in the millions.
Without p2p, I'd never have risked buying a CD by Kattoo for example, but after a recommendation on OiNK, I bought all 3 Kattoo albums (hear them at http://www.myspace.com/kattoo - stunning classical/IDM crossover music, but sales figures in 3 digits). I'm concentrating on obscure indie CDs not because it's not because I'm ethically opposed to the RIAA (even thought I am) but because I prefer it.
The truth is that the cartel only want people to buy their heavily hyped CDs, not CDs in general. It's not p2p's loss of revenue they have a problem with (they know p2p boosts CD sales), it's p2p's loosening the stranglehold they have on the market thats their problem with it.
The same goes for net radio, it's less susceptible to payola and features indie labels too much, that's why the RIAA want to tax it into oblivion.
(Disclaimer: I do have 1 on my own tracks on a compilation CD released on a non RIAA label myself, but I'm not slashvertising it here, go try that kattoo link instead, his stuff is amazing!). -

Re:Video EvidenceThe speed limit has everything to do with safety. It's based on what society/government believes to be safe at that time. Speed limits are determined by 50 year old equations that don't take into account improvements in vehicles, tires, road surfaces, traffic control devices, etc. The only time they're changed is when some local old person complains too much, then they're lowered arbitrarily. I've never seen a speed limit raised, except maybe a state-wide raise on limited access highways from 55 to 65. Also, other speed limits such as around school areas are logical and NOT arbitrary. I don't think anybody thinks that low speed limits in neighborhoods and schools are unreasonable. Speeding is dangerous in general. Just because you might be able to handle the fast speed most of the time doesn't mean its not dangerous. It only takes one incident to cost you your life. But you're making the incorrect assumption that speed is what CAUSES the "incident" - it almost always is not. People generally know their own capabilities and the capabilities of their vehicles and will stay within their limits. Vehicles are generally built to be fail-safe and catastrophic mechanical failures are extremely rare. In my experience accidents are caused by multiple mistakes in sequence - with one of those mistakes normally being distraction or indecision/hesitation. They're not normally caused by a vehicle that was operating at it's performance limit (braking, steering) but was going just too fast. The largest gains are to be had in reducing accidents by reducing distractions - people simply need to pay attention. Fortunately, my state (PA) is about to pass a law banning cell phone usage in vehicles without a hands free device. I can't wait.
But none of that has to do with speed limits. To me getting speeding tickets is just a "reasonable driving tax". I'm happy to make my $92.17 donation every few years to the local township and I don't worry about getting caught. Actually I think my last donation was $117.50.
If you want something to rant about for being dangerous on the roads, it's not a "teenage idiot who thinks he's invincible", it's drunk drivers. While I've known a few teenage idiots who have gotten killed in car crashes, they normally only kill themselves. I've known far more people killed by drunk drivers, who weren't the drunk drivers. But nobody likes talking about drunk driving, 'cuz, ya know, everybody has to go home from the bar sometime. I'd rather see speed limits removed altogether and have breathalyzers installed in ignitions instead. -
