This super powerful and dangerous flashlight => original article of January 29, 2008 can be easily fixed not to harm people. Set it for turning on at a reduced-power default to only draw 50% of available battery power... then make sure it takes someone with a working brain to figure out how to switch it to full battery power, giving anyone looking into the flash bulb time to think about it and hopefully get out of the beam. But hope wouldn't work entirely, something else is needed as a backup to that hope => Fix #2 would be a tiny chip and speaker circuit should issue a very audible warning when the flashlight is switched to Full Power. Hmm. Good post. I like your overall assessment regarding the labor intensiveness required. However, at some point maybe working smarter rather than working harder would be a better solution. There have been several attempts over the past few decades to make an engine run on air power. Recently there has been some notable successes but by far this one http://www.newpath4.com/enginewow.htm takes it to a new level. Compressed air is extremely cold so most air-powered engines have to warm it up before it enters the cylinder, but this one injects steam ahead of the liquid air. Their temperatures cancel each other out, for a zero temperature gain. Minus 320 plus 320 = 0. Therefore no cooling system is needed. The air & water (in the steam) circulate in separate closed cycles but overlap briefly inside the cylinder. Neither undergoes a chemical change; all they do is transport energy in ~ explode and exit. Sort of like making a canned tornado, except in a tornado the temperature spread might be, say, 64 degrees, but this enginewow would have a spread of 640 degrees. The more power means a lot less air & water are needed. Once the vehicle gets into motion that motion can be harnessed. By replacing the springs & shocks with air compressors the car can make more compressed air using the car's moving inertia (kinetic motion). Additonal power can be obtained by using regenerative braking. This engine design was once estimated by an engineer to produce 70 hp, more than used for the early VW Bug, but he was ignoring the exponential aspects. Anyway, I recently made some vehicle additional systems, building a completed system around the engine that will realize a power increase of over 1000%, resulting in a theoretical of 7000 hp. Since the heavy Desota car once had an engine of about 500 hp or so, this is a lot of overkill for cars. But it will likely power every tractor-trailer, buses, no strain on the hills. And the farmers have plenty to do already. If they start to using extra nitrogen fertilizer as someone mentioned that would be harmful to the environment and groundwater quality.

Exactly! By your link => you have really expressed everyone's feelings. Space Travel plods along slower than sin. I wrote a webpage just two days ago addressing people's frustrations over Space Travel. I suppose we would have it if we all signed up for a tour in Iraq, got all trained up, passed their physical tests. But the reason that has to be is because they insist on propulsion engines that presses astronauts into the seat from excess G's on liftoff. If a space engine(s) was developed that lifted the lightweight-alloy-and-plastic/foam spacecraft home easily from the ground they wouldn't be able to force everyone through their Sign-Up-for-Iraq (French Foreign Legion, Russkies, Patrol Boys and Space Cowboys) filter. Old people could travel their remaining years through Outer Space instead of clogging up Old Age homes. Whether there's backwards or forwards ~or both backwards and forwards~ evolution occurring at the same time is a mute point because since we don't know what future conditions will develop we don't have any way of knowing which step is best or to stand in one spot on the dance floor fearing every change imaginable as being yet another step in the wrong direction. For instance. Everyone touts the "successful" Moon landing as some great achievement (which it was, and) yet because of that achievement the pursuit of some better-than-propulsion system has been STIFLED AND STOPPED. So the Moon program has locked us into jet propulsion being "the answer". Likewise, the choice of combustion engines stopped research into the air-powered car engine which I recently concluded but for the building, my opponents laughing at the failure of mine to build them on my disability check by their mob control of research monies to protect their investments. However, none of that is the fault of the technology that was chosen. Apparently we all suffer from a gene that tells us once we solve a particular problem we can reward ourselves with a long dessert yet somehow avoid getting fat.

So that's what we are. A bunch of raving back-patting business-successful fatties (who will stop anyone who makes an air-powered car that makes everyone an astronaut). But we're forgetting something very important. After we enjoy all the gravies, meaty meals, soups and desserts, we will get what men always get: the Gout. So let's say a few people survive and not only survives but accomplishes some truly "break-out" accomplishment, like showing all people a very successful method or two for stopping cancers by killing them as they occur. How would the majority who commandeer the monies react? Would they enact sweeping changes in the hospital system to start giving cancer patients an onslaught nutrition program ? Another SlashDot article not many weeks ago -one that seems to get repeated every so often anyway- was telling us how the Universe is expanding and one day we will not see any stars in Earth's Sky. So now this parent article informs us the Universe has all these gigantia empty spaces. And yet, how many of the geniuses on SlashDot ~the same geniuses who keep modding me down and putting "Karma Bad" on my profile to warn people away from me?~ how many of them are genius enough to connect the dots between the two articles =>

Once the new bridge system is designed our bridge's safety could be raised above normal just like brand new inside of two-three years if assigned a Manhattan Project priority. I would suggest a #3 system of conduit pipes laid across the bridge length with nylon super ropes fed through from one side to the other and anchored deep enough to support a load of traffic should the bridge below fall before repairs can be completed. #4 soft plug the ends of the conduits to prevent any weather from sitting inside the conduits possibly eating at the nylon strands {which was what caused the bridges to age at an accelerated rate in the first place => Semi-Porous Concrete was trapping the road chemicals next to the reinforcing rods inside the concrete. #5 lay down a layer of shock-absorbing material between this upper bridge layer and the lower, preventing a significant amount of vibration reaching the now-less-than-reliable bridge supports. #6 on top of the nylon rope-containing conduit I would suggest using a foot-thick material that hasn't been made yet from a #7 new process I have waiting in the wings. Many condolences to the people harmed by this unfortunate accident. I would hope someone could tell them the healing properies of a nutrition product called Oxy-Nectar. Your post is a sensible post. What we have now is a desperation-driven solutions engine that grabs hold of the first obvious answers to energy sufficiency, builds a great cradle-to-grave system for manufacturing-sales-distribution. Once such a large juggernaut is in motion, any newer technology that comes along well, it has to fight it like Abraham fighting all night long with an angel. It has to fight with lobbyists & bought-off politicians defending the tax-paying new employers in their State, defending the thousands of jobs that are also PAYING MORE TAXES.

What happens then is a buggy whip manufacturer begins to squelch & strangle better systems like political kudzu. We don't have a mechanism in place to deal with this process, to pay the people their investments back when new buggy whips are made. I have one such buggy whip myself that produces a great deal more electricity than solar cells. I have also figured out several of Tesla's inventions, specifically the one where he figured to draw vast amounts of water up from the ocean surface over to hydroelectric dams built even in the world's deserts. Dams that would run 24 hours a day non-stop til they drop, moisture introduced inland that would increase, even out & stabilize Global Rainfall.

But, there you go. The scientific juggernaut has now decided come Hell or high water they don't want Tesla's water solution. It isn't the only one of Tesla's inventions I have solved. The solar technology wagon is now become a hayride filled with sexy women, drinks being poured in a D.C. bar. To stand in its way or threaten it in any way would harm people's stock portfolios, so that wouldn't be right either. So, my friend, now the "House" is owned by one of the card players and all we can do is watch it burn bright for a while til people realize it needs replacing, possibly 20-30 years from today, maybe. While my systems, real hog-hungry answers, sit on a shelf. This article is missing some points so I guess I'll fill in for ye. When you lower your food intake it turns on a dormant ability we all must surely have, but we never use it. Food is too plentiful so we overeat. In overeating we deny ourselves from turning this "engine" within us to On. Call it the I WANT TO LIVE ENGINE. Yeah. If it was Global Warming by Earth and Man causes, that would be doable with hybrid engines being slowly introduced to showroom floors.
