Petition For Verizon To Get It Soon!
Since it took almost two years to get the Treo 600 on Verizon, and I've already spoken with my account rep who says Verizon has no plans for this phone, I've created a petition to have Verizon get this phone in a timely fashion. Please sign below:
Verizon Treo 650 Petition
Thanks! -
Screw Matrox, they have more anti-Linux history
I think they are just cutting costs at our expense. I remember buying a video card, video capture daughterboard, and an integrated PCI TV tuner card as a bundle from them, when such a thing cost upwards of $300. This was a big investment for me at the time, but I was itching to edit video and DV wasn't big yet. These cards had excellent capture quality with hardware compression, so I invested big time in the whole Matrox system. Win2k came out a month later and they decided not to support it. Win2k was a leap ahead of 98, so many ditched the hardware.
Hundreds of calls and emails went to Matrox, especially on the part of people simply trying to get them to release specs on a single chip (MGA-VC064SFB-C) so linux drivers could be written. The 4 non-matrox chips on the board, including the Zoran capture chip - had publicly available datasheets. This wasn't a big part that was missing, but was necessary. Two open source projects started, and made progress, but halted or decided not to support the older generation of hardware, due to lack of specifications! Matrox even ignored a petition with nearly 400 signatures!
Other people were willing to do the work that would have given real value to the Matrox name - as a maker of rock solid hardware that continued to be a workhorse, even years after purchase. All they had to do was release some specs - the hardware was impossible to beat in price/performance at the time and the linux community would looked to Matrox with appreciation because a solid capture board that did hardware based compression wasn't easy to find or afford for linux. An asinine move if I'd ever seen one.
This was before they released open source drivers for a newer generation of cards, and it showed their true character before they cancelled open source drivers for the Parhelia line.
Simply put, don't buy closed source Matrox. They have a history of cutting development early for closed source drivers and not releasing specs! -
Put God back into Godzilla! No longer can we, "One Nation Under Godzilla" ignore our creator and allow the death of so many children in this country. Our nation has become the strongest county in the world, why? Because of the Godzilla we are founded under. Our Godzilla is the Real Godzilla, not King King, Nor Mothra. Our Godzilla has blessed this nation with wealth and you show me a country that worships any other Godzilla and I will show you a third world mindset, confused, mislead, and motivated with hate.

Re:Goatse
And the goatse.cx site was suspended. It's not there anymore.
So I guess we'll have to raise the money to replace it, eh?
That won't be necessary. Apparently the site was suspended without warning on January 14, 2004, but not without protest. Some thought the ".cx" top-level domain name was recieving a bad reputation. However this hasn't stopped the site reappearing under different domain names- for example, one excluding the "se" and another substituting the ".ca" TLD for ".cx". So it is still there, to the horror of unnwitting first-time viewers everywhere. It has also spawned a whole series of parodies and tributes. There is a Wikipedia article about it, with more information than you ever wanted to know on the topic.

Re:How Lucas Respects His Fans...
It's obvious he doesn't care about fans. If he really cared about fans, he would have put Star Wars Kid in a cameo in the next movie.

Oh how I HATE thee, let me count the ways.........
1. If (according to Real) companies intelectual property is free and open for all to use why has real not allowed other companies to use their 3rd rate codecs for compatability?
2. Have you considered the low carb diet fad?
3. Have you considered finalizing your contract with the devil early by killing yourself?
4. Why is it so difficult NOT to include privacy invading software with your other mostly "crappy" products?
5. Why were all the PUBLIC'S messages removed from the freedomofmusicchoice.org site?
6. How long are Real's investors willing to lose money due to the .49 cent song sales?
7. Do you REALLY think that the abusers of your .49 cent downloads will really stick around (let alone keep your software installed on their machine) once your price goes up?

Oh, HELL no!The only way to have your data not be hacked out of encryption under any circumstance is to not make your data available AT ALL. As really cool as they seem to think it is, security is not *that* good, even if you get a 2 MB encryption key. It can still be broken, no matter how remote the chances are.
The problem remains though that the alternatives also have holes. Snail mail can also be intercepted, but the worst of that is that the ballot fails to arrive at the intended destination. I suppose you could set up a precinct count over in the warzone, but that's even more risky to the people running the tally.
So frankly, you can't win, you can only reduce the odds of problems.
I guess I'm fully against electronic voting for the same reason that I sneer at places like Petitiononline.com - electronic data in this fashion can be futzed with far too easily, and therefore it can't be considered valid.

Re:NVidia driver issue?
I've got an ATI Radeon 9000 PRO and using I'm using the ATI binary drivers. It crashes my system all the time when I start delving into GL apps.
Check the ATI Petition for Adequate Drivers in Linux to see how happy the current ATI users are with ATI. Last time I checked, there were 9919 Total Signatures which have been added in the last week.

in addition to creating an entry to the mentioned wiki page, ATI and OEM-ATI owners might sign the following petition directed to ATI Technologies:

Two Petitions?
If you noticed on the real site mentioned in the article, the petition doesn't let you view the signatures. Yet there is another one that does let you view the signatures. Both petitions have different numbers of signatures, and both list on the bottom page that they were created by different admins of freedomofmusicchoice.org. It seems like they didn't like making the bad comments public so they created another petition and aren't letting comments be listed. Seems funny the lengths Real will go to.

Re:apple fans
Yes, but you'll note they didn't have the names removed from the signature... they're still including in in the count of people who have signed (and implying that they've approved of) the petition.
But you can get around that and read the comments using that link. -
The Original Petition
That is just PetitionOnline.com's disclaimer about not publically showing email addresses. Real started up a new petition because of how the original petition was going. Funny enough, someone else created an anti-petition which has a fair number of signatures.

The Anti-Real petition has twice as many sigs as Real's "grassroots" campaign!

how original! Here it is - from Real's site - the "real" reason why they stopped showing the names of people who singed up for the petition:
PetitionOnline.com has temporarily disabled the display of email addresses for signatories who chose to make their address public. We have done this to reduce the spread of harmful new viruses which harvest email addresses from the web cache of infected computers. This will also prevent spammers from harvesting email addresses from this site.

.org website for obvious commercial gains and inappropriate targetting of 1 company in an upstart segment of the music business with lots of competing companies. Not that this is not necessarily against breaking DRM etc. as clearly stated, just inappropriate marketing and stifling of user opinion in their other petition.

Speaking of business practices...
MacRumors is reporting they changed their "Freedom of Music Choice" petition because they didn't like the feedback they received.

Hilarious....
Not only do I own an iPod, but REAL's products are quite possibly the worst I've used. In fact I haven't had REALPLayer on my machine for years. Horrible quality and resource eating.
What I find hilarious is on the site they set up for this stunt http://www.freedomofmusicchoice.org/ had a petition http://www.petitiononline.com/mod_perl/signed.cgi? r4apple that was literally bombed by rabid apple/iPod fans. They took it down and now have the current petition link and it doesn't allow comments nor does it let you view the names which obviously disply that same messages as before just in one line.
I'm no Apple fanatic (WinXP junkie) but I love my iPod and I love this digital music fuster cluck that's been going on since it became the 'it' item. -

GNAA announces plans to bomb Christmas island GNAA announces plans to bomb Christmas island
by GNAA Staff
Due to recent AUP policy changes at .cx NIC, one of the key GNAA sponsored websites, http://goatse.cx has been found "in violation of .cx AUP policies". This announcement delivered a huge blow to the GNAA organization.
Without goatse.cx, we lose an important piece of GNAA.
"We will not let this happen", GNAA representative goat-see said to the press. "GNAA will begin planning a terrorist attack on the Christmas Islands."
GNAA currently operates a back-up site, also located at the .cx TLD, http://goat.cx. Users are welcome to use this website while we try to persuade .cx NIC to reinstate goatse.cx domain.
"In the event that our peaceful negotiations will fail, Christmas islands are sure to be gone off the face of this planet", added another GNAA member, penisbird.

@b- The domain goatse.cx has been found in violation of .cx AUP policies, http://www.nic.cx/policies/pdf/cx.AUP.pdf #5, page 7, and is therefore suspended.

@p- hah
@b- that amendment to thier AUP
@b- is like 100% goatse
@s- - Over the years we have received numerous complaints of this domain's
@s- - content, but no person filee an AUP violation form against the
@s- - domain. Recently the .cx board met and revised all .cx policies (December
@s- - 2003). One of the .cx policies that has not changed is that each domain
@s- - holder is required to review the policies every thirty days and make sure
@s- - their domain is in compliance (Please read part 1, page 2 of
@s- - http://www.nic.cx/policies/pdf/cx.registration.agr eement.pdf).
@s- -
@s- - We do not review web sites and cannot ensure every domain holder is in
@s- - compliance. But, if a domain is brought to our attention that fails to

Strikes, petitions
Interesting approach (more a boycott than a strike really). I wonder though who will really be prepared to do it if it means that when (if) they come back, they will have to start from scratch.
I agree that SOE seems to be somewhat contemptous of their subscribers and particularly of views expressed in the forums. I suspect the forums are kept on mainly as a means to allow players to let off steam rather than anything else. Are they still closed to outsiders? That always seemed a particularly cynical move by SOE. This way subscribers bitch behind closed doors and keep paying. Smart move if you know your product falls short of its hype.
I disagree that petitions aren't worth a shot. Particularly if they are backed up by arguments and a proposal for action. Maybe the best approach is a pair of petitions: one for people who are pissed off and threatening to leave, one for those pissed off but staying. Set SOE a deadline and let them watch the names rack up. Of course there will be people who sign as intending to leave but SOE won't know exactly how many. Hopefully it should help focus their minds on the issue.
Petition online is a great free service for hosting petitions like this. It doesn't seem to have a SWG petition active yet. -

Re:Yes, I am a Mac fan
Although undoubtedly good machines.
Macs are very expensive.
Only the middle-upper class can afford those.
Whereas with some old PC, you still can get a perfect Linux OS to run - so that poor granny can do her emailing, listen to pirated mp3s or surf for porn.
Applications for Macs do *not* come cheap; hardware do *not* come cheap.
I don't think you can set up a computer school for the poor in Brazil, running some 10 or 20 Macs.
You can with Linux though.
And as for open source - Does Mac have a repository of free software? (it's a genuine question - not a rant). Being an open source advocate OS should mean at least I can type "apt-get" software (or similar) and get a Photoshop/Corel Draw or Maya alternative installed with no worries.
Writer blindness - yes - but many would envy you :)
I love my Linux, if I had a Mac I would still put Yellow Dog on it. -
