Offer the higher pay-rate as a contractor, in writing, and have them sign off that they don't agree to it. Then you at least have some paperwork to provide as proof that you offered services that they declined to compensate appropriately.
Case in point, right in the message I'm replying to. If he had no feeling of emotion or caring while on antidepressants, then why would he bother writing that thoughtful post here? Seems he's full of emotion, and it's aimed in the right place.
We did the last interviewbefore the announcement over on TV Squad.:) He was very cool enough to do an intro for one of our podcasts, too, complete with most of his voices. You know, to hold you over and stuff.

With so many people jumping in front of trains in Japan, I'd have to think the train engineers are prone to suicide from seening the train plow through a body every week, and at their hands.
And he uses the 'Anonymous Coward' cover to protect his precious karma. I love your intelligent use of profanity to make your point hit home even more. Bravo.
Thanks for proving why I made you a foe... over a year ago.
And now that you're surely reading this, and had to actually check back to see that I did so, you care about what I have to say, don't you now?
I write for a few blogs and get paid to do so, but I disagree with your assumptions.
While blogging for me was initially a hobby, I found that spending time doing so was taking time away from other "more constructive" things I "should be doing." Previously, I may have sat and spent an hour writing a blog entry, and then I'd feel guilty about it because I didn't spend that time doing something else. Now that I'm getting money for blogging, I don't feel as thought I'm wasting my time anymore.
I don't blog *more* because I'm getting paid to do so, but I don't decrease how often I write now. Before, I felt like I was slacking off by writing crap on my personal blog, I'd just leave it and forget it (and currently, I do forget my own personal blog these days). Now I feel like I'm providing a service by (hopefully) entertaining people while seeing the fruits of my labor in the few bucks I get here and there.

No, simply changing the extention does not work:
New Text Document.txt.jpg was not uploaded: File was not a recognised type or was unable to be decoded (we only support JPEG, PNG, non-animated GIF, BMP and TIFF)
Easier? Sure, but a Flickr Pro account has unlimited storage.

Agreed here as well. At least he could have said, "dude, that is uncool. Go bring that sh*t back and tell them you made a mistake or I'll turn your punk ass in." But instead he listened to his former friend brag about his new loot, nodding and maybe saying nothing other than, "hmm." Then like a coward went and told the authorities without so much as a warning. Weak.
As long as the person voluteering is fully aware of all of his options, then perhaps you are correct. However, as in your case, I'd hope the person would be made aware that there is still that possibility they would live even without becoming a guinea pig.
If you're sitting at a workstation all day and your mail server uses IMAP with IDLE support, I guess that means you're constantly checking your email...
Where does one go to get help with some of the more advanced, Unix-related issues of Tiger? Message boards, etc. Any good ones? I'm having a bugger of a time with NIS issues, ones that didn't plague Panther.
Writer Jane Espenson said once that she thought it should be Alien Nation. And, wouldn't you know it, it is happening: http://clak.us/tjlv

Yep, and apparently they get it right.

*sigh*... Sadly, my emoticon was lost on you. :`-(
Yeah, I think I heard the key reason was the pirated stuff being priced a lot better. :-P

That was funnier the first time I saw it elsewhere. But hey, they copied it from somewhere so why shouldn't you?
I can't begin to imagine the DNAShop contests that will happen on Fark or Something Awful...
