So far I don't think anyone else has mentioned the possible demise of Portal of Evil. If I recall correctly, Old Man Murray was hosted by the same people who host(ed) Portal of Evil. POE has been down for at least ten days now, when you go to the URL http://portalofevil.com/ you get a Red Hat test page. Could there be a relationship between these events somehow?

I've known Chet (in an online sense) for years now. Donotreply.com is a stroke of genius, but I suspect the sheer volume of crud keeps it from being updated more. If you want to have a look at another much more disturbing property of Chet's, check out Portal of Evil. Classy!

Well the editor, Frank Salvato, seems to be a content thief. The flying pig logo he uses on his "The Fifth Column", looks awful familiar to me.

But maybe Salvato is just a dupe and got the graphic from the talentless - Propagandizing PhotoHacktress - thieving - disrespecter of a Navy Corpsman, Linda Eddy, who has No Shame, and is listed as a contributor on the site.

Your daughter will run into things on that Internet that you don't consider good. A look at the Portal of Evil should quickly find something that will offend you deeply, but won't be blocked by a straight pornography blocker. There's probably stuff that you wouldn't mind your daughter reading that I wouldn't want my children reading.
The Internet is a microcosm of the world; if you want your child to grow up sheltered, with your beliefs, you're going to need to do your custom filtering.

Furthermore, I'd be more happy with a filtered Internet if I didn't know that Quaker websties and the National Organization of Women website and websites talking about how bad the filtering software is and anything on Geocities were all prone to being banned, despite being valuable sites for growing citizens; and also if I didn't know that my website could go up tomorrow, and hidden between my Project Gutenberg links and programming junk could very well be a short story with hot lesbian sex of the type I'm fairly positive you don't want your daughter to read. There's too many false positives (and far too biased false positives) and way too many false negatives to implement it.

Here's a to show you how to flash a Radeon 8500 ($229 retail in the Mac market), and here's a link to show you where to get it for $89 (US). It's the exact same card. Just slightly over $240 difference in the retail price once you factor in shipping.

I made a point, a lot further down in the thread, and I'm restating it here. The video card/peripheral vendors price their items just below their (*perceived*) point of pain for the markets they're targeting.

Gamers (particularly Morrowind players -- as I've found the past week trying to play a damned game I *bought*...) seem to be the mid-high demographic, while Maya/Pro3D/Mac users seem to be the high end of their profile.

For the record, I wish they'd cut that shit out -- so the people who didnt' know any better could buy the same gear at the same price point without having to do the whole run-around.

Yes, virginia, you're being *SEVERELY* overcharged for your new über video card. The only things to do about it is not buy it until the manufacturers' markerters realize that you've figured out their game -- or buy the Wintel versions (which are *still* ridiculously overpriced) and flash the ROMs.

Although Seanbaby is on the bleeding edge of the bleeding edge, I'm surprised Katz didn't mention other sites. Old Man Murray, Portal of Evil, Something Awful, Jerkcity, hell even my site, Gamer's Angst, are all sites offering a more cutting view of the world.

Seanbaby is just one of a hundred sites out there offering not just pop culture commentary, but honestly some of the more cutting edge humor available today (except for our site. Our Tshirt slogan is "They're not funny"). Seanbaby just happens to be the best at it.

More disturbing is Katz weekly trumpeting of the impending AOLTW/Microsoft/Whoever else takeover of the Internet.

Of course we should be aware about these things, of course we should celebrate sites like Seanbaby that, frankly, rock. But can we tone down the "DEAR GOD QUICK EVERYONE READ SEANBABY TO STOP THE AOL YOU GOT MAIL MONSTER OMGWTF!" hysteria?

If he had a body of a substance of any material, besides pen, paper, and creativity... he would be our safest bet to send into office, now, I'm not going to go into the cons and cons of the two main candidates this year, or the pros of any third party, because lets face it, our main candidates have both contributed to the least socialy apealing election in a long time if ever. And for those of you who say "what about a third party?" Well its time you face it America is a two pary system with a couple Media-whores along for the ride.

Back to the subject at hand though, I encourage all you poor souls to read the back strips of a comic strip known as Doonsbury, and tell me with all honestey that Duke does not have a sane case... Anyone that can campaign through rural USA and completely pass up the small towns because they just aren't noticable, anyone that can atempt to crash politcal conventions Mission Impossible style, anyone that can come up with that clever of media hooks and scandals to grab atention in the 11th hour, it takes a noticible candidate like that to grab the attention, of the average citizen... also, to encourage the younguns, by explaining taxes in a family sense, nothing grabs the future voters like explaining taxes as billions of dollars put away for little billy...

Now the point has been made, any candidate of any genus able to formulate words, of any gender: male, female. 80/20*, anyone with ideals like this, can easily run and sway the masses, to become our next scandal-ridden figurehead to the entire free-world... With politics like this, why even stop at one large Super-Power, use it as a springboard to launch a attempt at becoming the evil overlord, for a NWO that rules the entire world, exactly as every conspiracy theory details.
