You mean Legend of Red Dragon
I think you're thinking of LORD -- Legend of Red Dragon (replace 'the Green' with 'red') Written (in turbo pascal no less) by Seth Able Robinson. This was one of the most popular games of the era, with many-many add-ons produced by various people (the game was designed to be expandable by third parties, and even came w/ instructions to do so). All the bbs's in my area had this game --
I'm amazed that you don't remember it.
Here's a link to some guys sites:
LORD on gamefaqs
Some guys website
Some guy who met him (tradewars)
Search on google (try the terms "Seth Able Robinson" [where I got the above links] or "Legend of Red Dragon") for tons of info on one of the best games ever written.

One handed keyboards
>> or until that one-handed keyboard comes around.
One handed keyboards (both left and right handed) were developed by Dvorak and some other guy a while ago. They are also *the* standard for disabled one-handed typists. In fact, if your a windows user, you can change your keyboard layout to the left or right handed layout without adding additional software.
See This website for more info
you could also try google for more links and, perhaps, a better typing tutor

Re:hmm
I think the the sumation (OR) operator is the problem here. It should be replaced by (character I'm too lazy to insert) to show intersection. In such a case, we could read the proposition: does the set of all sega intersect at any point with the set of all nokia?
And then, happily, answer the is true. (but not true currently, only true in the future but then we mix temporal logic)
Chears!

Business World?
I don't know about you, but this just looks way too much like a Gameboy (TM) to carry around and use like a regular cell phone.
Plus, I think that dialing a number with one hand (typical of cell users) would be a little awkward given the phones shape.
And more importantly, how will you make the decision: kill Dr. Robotnic, or answer this incoming call?

Re:Don't overlook REALbasic
I agree, REALbasic is Not In Any Way the mac equivilant of VB.
(Sure its expensive, and dies for no reason sometimes, but so does windows, and you don't hear your boss complaining...)
Seriously though, REALbasic just might be the way for you to go. Give it a try, and if you like it, you should buy it.

Re:What does it matter?
People have been pirating music longer than most of us have been alive. People copied cassette tapes, copied records to tapes, cd's to tapes, and shared them with their friends. And can you guess? There is still a recording industry.
People have been pirating software longer than most slashdot trolls have been alive. Honestly, did you pay for you copy of M$ Windows? chances are you only did if you bought a new machine. How many copies of "Oregon Trail" did your elementry school have that had the origional label and not just "OT" written on a piece of masking tape?. For that matter, who on slashdot has actually purchased their own copy of Quake 3? For you IT professionals, do you really have enough client licenses for outlook? do you have enough licences to cover all your machines running Win 2000 or NT 4 ?
Did the young microsoft go bankrupt when people pirated the Altair Basic?
And their is still a software industry.
Priacy is all around us. It doesn't matter what measures you put in place to stop it. IT WILL HAPPEN.
Quote the above post: Is it really that bad of them to try and protect what is legally theirs in the first?
When you use technology to limit access to a copyrighted work in such a way that it limits the consumers ability to exercise their right to fair use, then its "that bad of them".

Re:Invoke the Patriot Act
oh! The one-year anniversary of 9-11 is comming up (tomorrow, er today, i'm up rather late)
Do you think that the US Gov't will create another attack like they did last year? (come on, do you really believe that "terrorists" knocked over our buildings? look how quick the patriot act was written and signed to law. History has already shown us that gov't doens't move quite that quickly...)
Well, its a good thing I'm posting anonymously or else I could be labeled a subvert and black listed like this guy should be.

There will always be a leader...
Even if their is a fairly even distribution of linux distros in use there will always be one that is used a little more than the rest. Its just a fact of life.
I personally don't mind redhat being the leader, they seem ethical enough. I personally run slackware, but that is beside the point.
Besides, with a clear leader like redhat there is a chance that I will get my SH3 linux port for my HP320LX....
recompile.org -
SH3!!!!
I run slackware on my machines at home
I'll run redhat when they port it to the SH3 (Hitachi SuperH 3) processor so I can run it on my HP320LX...

Re:So they modified KDE?
> Isn't that the point of open-source software?
Absolutly! RedHat was able to build on the strong points of both KDE and Gnome to produce a nice environment. They were able to do this because both apps are open source.
This is a good thing -- open source allows better products to be developed. The "viral" GPL keeps the new product open and lets other developers build on the success of the product without the origional developers seeing their work stolen without due credit.
This is a very clear example of how open source leads to higher-quality software.

CS101 Should not involve a programming language
>> You should be able to teach CS101 in any language.
A computer science 1 course shouldn't involve a programming language at all. That should be reserved for course in programming. CS101 should include algorithm development and testing, boolean logic, logic circut design and reduction, base conversion, binary arithmatic, etc.
I can not say this enough: COMPUTER SCIENCE IS MORE THAN JUST PROGRAMMING!

Do you have any idea what your talking about?
>To learn C you need to know assembler
ummm... I've used C for years and although I've worked with PDP-11 and 80x86 assembly languages I'm 100% sure that I could have learned to function in the C language without a background in assembly language
Also
>To learn C you need to know assembler(it was invented to be a portable assembler).
Wrong again. C was designed to be used to develop the unix operating system. C is most definantly not a "portable assembler" pointers and bit-level operators were added to the language to make it useful for developing system level software
>Unfortunatly you can not teach a starter in CS assembler
I cannot begin to point out everything that is wrong with that statement, but I'll try anyway.
1) The study of computer science involves alot more than "learning to program in _____ ".
2) An assembler converts a program written in an assembly language to a computers machine language. (an assembler is a program NOT a language) remember that a computers "assembly language" is simply an abstraction from a computers machine language. There are many different machine languages and thus many different assembly langauges
3) A student should study many things before they are taught a language, including boolean algebra, logic circuits, circuit reduction, algorithm design & analysis & theory, binary arithmatic, base conversion, etc.
4) What exactly do you know about CS and teaching CS?
I'm too angry to continue this post...

I don't care if they were faxing information that could prevent terrorist attacks.
Why don't I care? Its not their job, nor is it our job, to decide what type of intrusion is acceptable. Faxes COST ME MONEY. They cost me paper, ink, time on my fax line, and time in my day, space in my dumpster, my electricity...
They broke the law...over and over again.

Re:Infinity taken for granted
Okay, when we say that the universe is expanding we mean that all that matter floatign around in all this sapce (thats infinite space) is moving away from the "center" where that thing we call "the big bang" happened. When we say "the universe is expanding" we mean that all that matter hanging around now has better distribution.
Thats about as far as I can possibly dumb it down. I hope you understand.

Re:Marketing holds back progress?
I don't think so... remember the early days of AMD vs. Intel? Remember the "P Rating" that you saw stamped on all those AMD processors claiming how this AMD75mhz processor runs like a Pentium 133?
That is what has always made AMD processors superior, they never sacrificed good design for a larger mhz than their competition

Everyone knows this?
>My only problem with this lawsuit is that EVERYONE knows all this already,
I guarantee that most of the people I know, including tech people, were not aware of the P4's slowness. I mean, just the other day some lame-ass best buy employee sold a poor non-tech friend of mine a CELERON processor claiming it was the best cpu he could buy. (and this was after I told him to explicitly not buy a celeron)
The average joe-sixpack, and the average joe NIC monkey just don't know.

Wasn't Tuffs university working on a device like this? The idea was to send a 40-60khz RMS audio signal (doubly-differentiated and clipped to a square wave to give only time-rate of change) directly to the eighth cranial nerve via the connection that your skin retains [to the eight cranial nerve]?

Re:MacOs and Win
No point in alienating your users too soon.
Are you kidding? I don't think that forcing webdesigner to use standards is all that bad of an idea. The w3c has done a good job so far dictating what should and shouldn't be used on the web (with the exception of VRML).
With AOL supporting a standards complient browser, we could finally see a web that works the way we geeks intended it to.
