Re:The science of better Guinness
Black Butte Porter, Obsidian Stout, Stone Imperial Russian Stout, and Contorter Porter quickly come to mind as beating the pants off of imported Guinness, as does any of the offerings from either Rogue or Bell's (except for Bell's Cherry Stout which sucks--the sole exception for an otherwise world-beating brewery). Your locale probably has a microbrewery or craft brewer that can do the same.

Re:After a hard days work
Fairly sure it'd be pretty hard to smoke beer. What are you smoking?
Huh? I've got 2 bomber bottles of it in the fridge right now Stone Breweries Smoked Porter is easy to find at any decent beer vendor.

Re:Oh, great
I work as a Sous Chef in a French Restaurant in Seattle. We do get many of our cheese's imported from France of Italy but there are some very good American cheeses. Some people complain that American cheese isn't as good as French cheese but it is just not true. It is just as good only different. Italian cheese is not the same as French cheese but most people assume European cheese is all good. I taste test different cheeses for the restaurant and I have had some very bad European cheese. The same goes for wine or beer. American gourmet food tastes different but that is a good thing. We wouldn't want to try and beat the French at making French cheese, that would not work. Instead American producers create their own style that has come around to much acclaim for example in the wine world.
You can find many great food and drink producers all over America. You can't say that Australia doesn't have any good beer just because Foster's is from there.I wont list any wineries because that is one topic that IS covered very well. A short list of companies I recommend follows:
Dogfish Head Brewery (my favorite beers)
Redhook Ale Brewery
Fish Tale Ales (organic beers)
Stone Brewing Co.
Juniper Grove Farm
Rogue Creamery (excellent blue cheese) -
Re:The Pilgrims should have served steak
Right, it's stronger that California's 10.8% abv Stone Old Guardian? No wonder you people can't speak English properly.
If you think Canadian beer like Molson or Labatt's is anything more than fizzy yellow moose piss, you're out of your mind. -
Re:FavoritesSort of off topic, but I only buy good beer. The best 'non-real' beer in my opinion is Yuengling, which comes from what used to be a relatively small Pennsylvania brewery. Now it's available all along the East coast (with a satellite brewery in Florida). It's not a super premium beer, but it's cheaper than the garbage that Budweiser and Miller call beer and is quite drinkable. For a decent party beer that's not expensive and can be consumed in mass quantities, Yuengling Lager can't be beat. My favorite is Yuengling porter, but your typical Budweiser and Miller boys don't like dark beer that actually has some flavor.
One thing for certain is that you'll NEVER find a can/bottle of Budweiser, Miller, Coors, even Labatt or Molson (Canadian Budweiser) for that matter, in my house. Some of my favorites include:
Newcastle
Samuel Smith (Oatmeal Stout and Pale Ale)
Anything from the Stone Brewery
Anything from Andersen Valley Brewing Company (especially their Boont Amber Ale and Hop Ottin' IPA)
Brooklyn Brewery which I recently discovered.Throughout Southern California, there's a nice brewpub called BJ's Brewhouse, with several locations that make their own beer on site. One of my favorites is their Nutty Brewnette, and their Tatonka Stout is also extremely heavy and powerful if you're in the mood (sort of like a thick black syrupy beer with 8+% alcohol).

Prior Example?
Stone Brewing Company, from San Diego, CA, releases the new Verticle Epic beers every year one day, one month, and one year later than the previous year, e.g. 05/05/05, 06/06/06 etc... Each year they have a contest where homebrewers can make their own versions and compete to see who can make the best replication. Recipes are available here. So Stone gives back to the homebrewing community. I don't work for Stone, but my homebrew club does meet there.

Re:UK rules OKNot necessarily. The mass marketed beer does suck - avoid anything made by Budweiser, Coors, Miller, etc. I don't understand why people drink that junk. I guess it's the same reason people at Pizza Hut and Dominos Pizza - MARKETING!
There are many microbreweries in the USA that produce some excellent brews. Stone Brewing Company http://www.stonebrew.com/ in San Marcos, CA has a wonderful beer called Arrogant Bastard Ale http://www.arrogantbastard.com/. They frown upon 'tasteless fizzy yellow beer'.
I don't think brews like Sierra Nevada and Sam Adams can be considered microbrews because they have large nationwide distribution channels, but they're still decent beers.
My favorite beers happen to be from the UK: Newcastle and just about anything by Samuel Smith (Oatmeal Stout, Pale Ale, Nut Brown Ale). I'm assuming there are many microbrews in the UK that produce even better beers than those, but I don't know of any in the USA.

Craft Beer [Re:My Story - A Navy Veteran]
an occaisional high-end craft beer is OK
;-) ... Stone Brewing Beers -
Re:I hate beer snobs
ahhhhh But Arrogant Bastard doesn't taste like _just_ hops. You can definitely taste the malt in it as well. I do enjoy Stone Brewing's Ruination IPA quite well. Hops should complement malt in a beer. Not be the _only_ flavor present. Of course, all of this is IMNSHO...

Re:you must be new here....
After a younger me consumed 108 ounces (9 bottles) of Coors Light (I don't drink that watery shit anymore... Arrogant Bastard is my new love) at a local club full of plasticized morons, I got ahhh... slightly... uh... tipsy.
I told my girlfriend's friend who is severly overweight that she'd have much better luck finding a guy if she'd "do something about that fat ass".
Despite this unfortunate incident, my girlfriend says I am much more sociable when I'm drunk, and she prefers me that way.
