horse_ebooks
I think http://twitter.com/Horse_ebooks has a significantly higher success rating than 16%. Granted its tweets are not "jokes." But I hardly think "I like my coffee like I like my war - cold" qualifies as a joke. Especially since they are trying to make the AI "funny" out of any sort of context.

Re:GET READY....I too am glad they cast an older, white guy. There was speculation whether the new Dr would be black or a woman. Either of which could have made for an entertaining television show, however it wouldn't be Dr Who. There is far too many $$ riding on it to go messing with fundamentals like that. One memorable twitter comment I saw:
"For anyone who wishes the new Doctor was gay, black, or a woman, Capaldi's a good enough actor to play the part as a gay black woman." @sfdebris

Re:What's the big deal
The censorship implications are - as far as I can tell - entirely intentional. The woman behind this petition is best buddies with a particularly lovely, transphobic shitheel who believes that trans people exist solely to attack her precious femaleness, repeatedly outs and harasses trans women (we're talking names, addresses, places of employment, the works), and thinks that anyone who objects to this is harassing her by complaining about it.
Naturally said shithell 100% supports this petition, and why wouldn't she? After all, this petition is carefully worded to give her and her chums an out: "Women standing up to abuse should not fear having their accounts cancelled because Twitter fail to see the issue at hand. The report abuse button needs to be accompanied by Twitter reviewing the T&C on abusive behaviour to reflect an awareness of the complexity of violence against women, and the multiple oppressions women face." For those who don't speak their particular brand of feminist, what that means is that women who send death threats get away with it so long as they're fighting for women's rights by doing it. Brennan considers harassing trans people to fall under this, and she's very effective in organising write-in campaigns which convince sites this is an important part of women's rights. It helps that essentially no feminists write in to contradict her.
Of course, she'd be just as capable of organising campaigns to mass abuse report trans people and their allies. I've been seeing concerns from people on Twitter about this all day.

Three Cheers for Amash
Justin Amash is just the kind of Representative that could really make this system work, if there were 430 more like him. He posts all of his votes online and explains his rationale, which is almost always concerned foremost with the legality of the proposed legislation.
For that reason, most of his amendments fail and he's usually on the losing side of popular votes. I'll be delighted if his amendment succeeds and is not subsequently removed in conference or by another amendment, but if I were a betting man, I would not bet on his effort tomorrow having any actual impact on the funding.

You also have to take into account how long it takes to physically depress a key. For example, John Carmack measured that it takes 16-20 milliseconds to fully depress one of the triggers on a Xbox 360 controller.

Korean Aviation Culture
I have to admit that when I first heard about the crash, Gladwell's work came to my mind concerning Korean aviation culture. This train of thought was repeated over and over again on Twitter. This article talks about the past and present Korean aviation culture with respect to safety, and I think the writer is objective and reputable.

Unemployment report in a nutshell: the Taco Bell that had 30 40 hour workers now has 40 30 hour workers.
Behind the Dismal Jobs Numbers: The ‘New’ Economy Takes Shape
Another way to look at this is that corporations will cut costs wherever possible, including not offering benefits at all if they're not forced (one way or another) to do so.
Part time workers need health care too and this is just one more example of how companies really don't give a shit about their employees.

Re:No Cartwheeling
The term "cartwheel" has different meanings to different people
If by that you mean that uneducated or ignorant people it has different meanings, I'll agree with you. But to educated people, it means just one thing.
Judging by the debris, it looks like it would have been a steep descent with flare at the end -- which results in a faster landing and is preferred at high-volume airports, over a shallower approach, with less flare.
You'd be half right at best - today's approach was steep, the normal pattern is much shallower.

Interesting Photos & Data on TwitterSome interesting photos and data have shown up on twitter today. First, here is (I think) the original source of that photo taken by a passenger: https://twitter.com/Eunner
Second, here is a photo, taken across a small bay, showing the plane crashing: https://twitter.com/stefanielaine/status/353591123958173696/photo/1
And, most interesting, a comparison of flightpath data (from flightaware.com) of yesterday's flight against today's flight: https://twitter.com/sbaker/status/353611787750494208/photo/1
While I am no expert, it looks like it hit the ground short of the runway, like the previous crash of a 777 (BA 34).

Martin never returned home from the 7-11.
Martin never returned home from the 7-11.
Martin never returned home from the 7-11.
We will say this as many times as it takes to sink in.
You have repeatedly claimed that Rachel Jeantel testified that Martin returned home after the first encounter with Zimmerman, but you've provided no citation, transcript, source or quotation to back you up. Don't worry, though; the Emperor has done the research for you, and tracked your claim back to this tweet. The tweet, in turn, cites a blog post, but unfortunately the blog post doesn't corroborate the tweet.
Obviously numerous other sources have reported on Jeantel's testimony, and absolutely none of them make any mention of Martin returning home. The same can be said of the numerous timelines and maps that have been drawn about the shooting. Now, which of these two scenarios do you think is more likely: that a single Twitter user picked out a key piece of Rachel's testimony that was somehow missed by every credible news source, or that the single Twitter user was simply mistaken?

US whistle-blower Edward Snowden has left Hong Kong and is on a commercial flight to Russia, but Moscow will not be his final destination.
The fugitive whistle-blower boarded the Moscow-bound flight earlier on Sunday and would continue on to another country, possibly Cuba then Venezuela, according to media reports.
The Hong Kong government said in a statement that Snowden had departed "on his own accord for a third country through a lawful and normal channel".
The 30-year-old left from Chep Lap Kok airport on a flight scheduled for 10.55am. He is believed to have boarded Aeroflot Flight SU213, which landed at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo International Airport at 5.03pm local time, according to the airport's website.
"Snowden left Hong Kong on his own will," a government source told the Post, adding that the Hong Kong government had not provided Snowden with any assistance or protection during his whole stay. The source dispelled media claims that the government had provided him a "safe house".
It was understood that Snowden's departure was a relief to the Hong Kong government, which had been making all legal preparation to deal with new developments regarding the case.
Regina Ip, former secretary of security, told the New York Times : "I think [the US] government will be upset for a while, but I hope that they will shrug it off, because our government acted in accordance with the law. Our government officials can breathe a sigh of relief."
Final destination?
Russian news agencies Interfax and Itar-Tass reported Snowden is booked on a flight from Moscow to Cuba on Monday. Itar-Tass said Snowden would fly from Havana to Caracas, Venezuela.
“A passenger under that name will arrive in Moscow from Hong Kong today on flight SU213, and tomorrow, on June 24, he will fly to Havana on flight SU150,” the state news agency ITAR-Tass quoted a source at the airline as saying. “Also tomorrow, he will go to Caracas from Havana on a local flight.”
There is no legal basis to restrict Mr Snowden from leaving Hong Kong
--Hong Kong government
'No legal basis'
The Hong Kong government said it had notified the US government about Snowden's departure.
Snowden is wanted by the US government after he disclosed classified documents detailing the clandestine cybersnooping programmes carried out by Washington’s National Security Agency.
The US government on June 14 filed espionage and theft charges against the former CIA technician, and the US National Security Council confirmed that it had put in a formal extradition request to the Hong Kong government.
The Hong Kong government said on Sunday that it had requested more information so the Department of Justice could consider whether to go forward with the US extradition request.
“As the HKSAR government has yet to have sufficient information to process the request for provisional warrant of arrest, there is no legal basis to restrict Mr Snowden from leaving Hong Kong,” the statement said.
Later on Sunday, China's foreign ministry said: "The central government always respects the HKSAR government's handling of affairs in accordance with law."
WikiLeaks' role
WikiLeaks, whistle-blowing website founded by Julian Assange, said on Twitter it had helped Snowdwn secure political asylum in a “democratic country”. It also said it had arr

Re:Allegedly Venezuela By Way of Cuba
That's what I've heard reported elsewhere as well. But just now I saw that the Norwegian Pirate Party claims he's en route to Oslo.
Rough translation of the tweet: "#Snowden has landed in Moscow on the way to Oslo, Gardermoen. The Pirate Party will mobilize support in Oslo when he arrives."
No idea if that's legit.
It's almost certainly false and done as a show of support by the Norwegian Pirate Party.

Re:So Intel is getting Nvidia GPU technology
AMD is currently devastating Nvidia in the high end gaming market. Every one of the 3 new consoles uses AMD/ATI tech for the graphics. EA (the massive games developer) has announced their own games engines will be optimised ONLY on AMD CPU and GPUs (on Xbone, PS4 and PC). Nvidia is falling out of the game.
where exactly are you getting the number for amd devastating nvidia? both titan and 780 are better than amd gpus, the steam hardware survey still shows a 52% for nvidia and 33% for amd. The ps4 and the xbone will use amd because having a combined cpu and gpu is more convenient for a console and intel gpus are not exactly good.
As for ea do you understand that they got paid by amd to do that? this is something that both nvidia and amd have done for years, all those games that have a "better with nvidia/amd" intros didn't put it there because the developers like them, for example one of the main guy behind frostbite(that as you just said will only be optimized for amd) just built a titan system https://twitter.com/repi/status/346335279751237633, why would he use nvidia instead of amd if amd is devastating nvidia?
both amd and nvidia have strengths and weaknesses but nobody is devastating anyone
