Re:Good Alternatives to GoDaddy?
I've had no problems with dotster for ages (some 20+ domains with them). And they seem to oppose SOPA, so I'm considering moving my remaining domains from GoDaddy to Dotster as well.

The Amazing Shrinking List of Supporters
There been some shrinking of the "Judiciary Committee’s list of SOPA supporters", perhaps due to cold water? Compare this list (439 entries, dec 21) with the 'official' list (142 entries, dec 23).
Beyond the law firms that have complained, I can't help but note that Electronic Arts aren't in the PDF.
Also, every time some actor tweets anti-SOPA sentiment, make sure to point out to them that the Screen Actors Guild are official SOPA supporters according to the judiciary.

I am proud to announce that the Wikipedia domain names will move away from GoDaddy. Their position on #sopa is unacceptable to us.
Let's see if wikipedia continues the move or not after this 180 turn

Wikipedia will be moving away from GoDaddyAt least the domain names are:

How to Leave GoDaddy
Jeff Epstein has put up a step-by-step guide detailing the easiest way to leave GoDaddy:
http://blog.jeffepstein.me/post/14629857835/a-step-by-step-guide-to-transfer-domains-out-of-godaddy
Take special note of that trick to confirm the transfers at the end, because it can save you a five day wait. There are also ways to export your zones if you made the mistake of using GoDaddy as your DNS provider. Several other registrars are running deals right now, too. I've heard people saying that NameCheap (which is anti-SOPA) will let you keep the time you had paid for, so if you registered a domain for 10 years, you won't just lose it all. They even have a coupon of SOPASUCKS
While NameCheap appears to be the most active anti-SOPA registrar, other honorable mentions include MediaTemple (the CEO has tweeted that he is opposed to SOPA) and DNSimple (which offers a discount for those escaping GoDaddy),

For now it's unclear how bad is this, as the only concrete detail is Secunia's link to "original advisory"

Why the fuck there's so little about it, did nobody research yet what kind of memory corruption it actually does? The tweet's from 4 days ago, FFS.

Re:RIM is probably on the way out.
The problem with not shifting that focus is that businesses are increasingly moving to employee owned devices, instead of company owned. If they can't appeal to consumers it will negatively affect their presence in the enterprise. Now, instead of having to appeal to IT purchasing departments you have to appeal to individual employees who don't really care if their admin can remotely wipe their data etc. They care more if they can play Angry Birds (which you can on a PlayBook now: https://twitter.com/#!/BlackBerryDev/status/149521163180191744)

Re:Mark parent troll/Ignorant.
Don't be stupid. Twitter lets people delete their posts, but you can't do the same for the stuff that the LoC has archived.
How To Delete a Tweet
If you've posted something that you'd rather take back, you can remove it easily. When you hover over your Tweet while viewing your home or profile page, you'll see a few options appear below the message
People signed up with the understanding that they could remove tweets from the public record. Turns out twitter, in handing a copy to the library of congress to data mine (and this is what they've said they are doing), is violating that part of the agreement.
The archive will be available to Mr Lefurgy's team of researchers, to find and analyse interesting trends.
'There have been studies involved with what are the moods of the public at various times of the day in reaction to certain kinds of news events.
'Thereâ(TM)s all these interesting kinds of mixing and matching that can be done using the tweets as a big set of data.'

Not quiteAccording to Issa's Twitter feed the next hearing is scheduled for Dec. 21.
I just posted this in the other thread, but I'll go ahead and repost it here too, that way I can feel like I didn't waste my time on it. I actually watched most of the judiciary hearing yesterday and while I was probably in the middle of a stroke for most of it the parts I remember paint a pretty clear picture.
On the one side you had a few (very few) congressmen/women, namely Mr. Issa, Mr. Polis, Mr. Chaffetz, Ms. Lofgren and Ms. Jackson. They spent the entire hearing pleading with the chairman and the rest of the committee to allow experts (nerds as they often said) to essentially come in and explain the internet to them, because it was obvious that 99% of the members of the committee had no idea what they were talking about. They made reasonable, logical arguments and put forth one amendment after the other trying to clarify some really vague areas of the bill, all of which were shot down by the rest of the committee usually by a vote of ~6 to 24.
On the other side you had 5 or 6 members of the committee who also admitted several times that they had zero understanding of the technical aspects of the bill, but that the bill was awesome anyway. This group was mainly the chairman of the committee Mr. Smith, Mr. Berman, Mr. Watt, Mr. Johnson, Mr. Goodlatte and Ms. Waters. They made no arguments beyond "We have to do something. This is something. Therefor we should do this". Unlike the first group they didn't care that they were ignorant on the subject, they just wanted to get the damn thing passed. I doubt anyone here would be surprised to learn they all received large campaign contributions from the TV/Music/Film industry. Check the contributions of the first group and you'll find the same industry conspicuously absent. It's also worth noting that more than half the committee never said a word during the entire session that wasn't "No" in response to an amendment vote. This third group cared so little they couldn't even be bothered to take part in the debate.
So when you're condemning this committee for being willfully ignorant just keep in mind that 5 or 6 of them don't deserve to be thrown in with the rest like that. I'll end with a quote from a frustrated Darrell Issa, speaking to the chairman of the committee half way through the second day:I thank you for continually trying your best to go Republican, Democrat, Republican, Democrat. I might suggest that you might as well go 'for' and 'against', that'll save a lot of your 'for' people some wasted time because you'll run out of the 'against' pretty quickly. Mr. Chairman it's very clear we're gonna lose here eventually, and we're gonna lose in the worst possible way. We're gonna lose without all the facts, and we're gonna lose without the process being open in the way that I would hope it will be in the new year.

Re:Abandonware open source
When they (Touchpads) were $200 - $250? They launched at $500 for the 16GB model in July 2011.
Then in August they did the $100/$150 firesale. I'd never even heard of the device before the firesale.
I don't think anyone will ever know why HP gave the Touchpad a little over a month before killing it off.
At the very least they should have ridden it out until the holiday season and then sold them at cost (supposedly ~300) with a firesale after the holidays if sales were still bad. After that they could have just tried to make back what they could through the app market.
Anyway, with regards to WebOS on the EVO: I believe the bleeding edge for that is being done by Ryan Hope.
There are still issues though and I think they're mostly waiting on the webOS source release to make it fully work. -

Why can't I see all my Tweets? My Tweet count is _,___. Are they lost?
The good news is they're not lost or gone! We have all your Tweets. The bad news is that we currently only allow you to see the 3200 most recent Tweets (this could also be construed as good news, as that number could be lower than 3200). We do not currently plan to change this limit, but we welcome your feedback - just send a mention to @feedback.

Re:Matros was probably lying about MP5 license
I find that comment bizarre - how could anyone care whether some particular gun was in the game or not? Was the in-game gun controversial or overpowered or somesuch in BF2? Are there really MP5 fanboys out there? It boggles the mind.
The original tweet linked to above and held up as a source indicates that DICE licenses the guns in BF3. That response was prompted by the following question addressed to Matros:
@zh1nt0 Hi will it be possible to add Mp5 in with current game after B2K DLC comes out? Mp5 is my favorite weapon of all time.

Apply to Expensify!
We'd absolutely love to talk with you. Please see https://expensify.com/jobs, or write jobs@expensify.com -- we look for people *exactly* like you. Here's what's written on our site: https://www.expensify.com/jobs/need
Who We Need: Engineers, Entrepreneurs, Expert Generalists
We are always hiring talented generalist programmers. But if you really like titles, we're looking for:
- Salespeople (of the future!!)
- Fresh graduates (graduating soon)
- College dropouts (graduating never)
- Senior programmers (there's no such thing as overqualified)
- Mobile developers (iOS, Android, BlackBerry, Windows Phone... even webOS)
- Systems programmers (back end performance and stability)
- Web developers (bring on the PHP!)
- Front-end engineers (jQuery, HTML, CSS, all that)
- Web designer (PSD, HTML, CSS)We're not looking to stick cogs in a big machine.
We need people who can do pretty much everything and immediately learn how to do the rest. Before even thinking about the skills, we're looking for you to be:An incredibly hard worker, even when it's not so fun.
There is a ton of work to do, and a lot of it downright sucks. After all - we do the sucky work so our customers won't need to. We need you to buck up and grind through random tasks, server logs, user emails, source code, and bug reports, without complaint or supervision, and come back asking for more.A cool person to be with.
Not a crazy party animal, just someone we can trust, rely upon, hang out with, bounce ideas off of, and generally interact with in a positive way, both personally and professionally. In fact, this is one of the most stringent requirements we have: would you be fun to hang out with day and night on some remote, exotic beach? This isn't a rhetorical question, either: every year we take the company overseas for a month (on your own dime, sorry) and work incredibly hard while having a ton of fun. We've done Thailand, Mexico, India, Turkey, and the Philippines. Where do you want to go next?Super talented, in a general way.
We're going to throw a ton of work at you of every possible sort, and you need that magic skill of being able to figure it out even if you have no idea where to start. Everyone helps with tech support, schmoozing at swank parties, hosting events, coming up with new and ever-more-ridiculous marketing stunts, etc. And if you code, you'll code everything: you might do mobile one day, front-end design, back-end optimization, low-level debugging, the works. This is not a monkey job - you're going to be a full participant in the process, and you need to bring your own unique blend of skills to the table.Even more talented in a programming way.
You can instantly visualize solutions to problems big and small. Your code is always clean, well commented, has good nomenclature and indentation. You can switch on a dime between C++, PHP, Bash, Cron, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, Dwoo, SQL — not because you know them all, but because you're the sort of person who can just pick it up and figure it out. If you're this sort of person, you'll know what we mean. If not, then this position isn't for you.
Basically, we're looking for people who want to do amazing things with their careers, and who are searching for a way to get started or take the next incredible step. Does this sound like you? If so, read on...Please check us out!

Matros was probably lying about MP5 license
The horse's mouth: http://twitter.com/#!/zh1nt0/status/137569596440973313
Your source is to those that follow him known as generally highly uninformed. This tweet was likely just a lying excuse for why they left the MP5 out of the game.
The MP5 was in Battlefield 2. If DICE and EA put an effort into licensing the equipment in its games, it would have licensed it at the time. So why would it not be in BF3? Some might speculate that perhaps the relationship between H&K and DICE/EA deteriorated. If that were true, then why is the M416 in there? How about the G3? How about the MP7?
You have to remember that many of the people that care enough about Battlefield 3 to complain about BF3 featuring this weapon or that are likely those that don't have a lot of clout in the real world -- teenagers, mostly. Matros is not going to put a lot of effort into figuring out why the MP5 wasn't included -- he likely just walked over to his PR boss and asked what a plausible excuse was and used that.
I just did a quick google on "battlefield3 equipment licenses" and turned up nothing in the first three pages, so...probably not actually licensed.
As another note, there is a little disclaimer at the bottom of the recently-released BF3 trailers (such as this one) that reads:
"The depiction of any weapon or vehicle in this game does not indicate affiliation, sponsorship, or endorsement by any weapon or vehicle manufacturer."
Some might suggest that statement implies that there is some contract between EA and these equipment manufacturers spelling out the terms by which DICE may use such equipment, including that there be such a license. In fact, I'm inclined to suggest that this disclaimer is intended to set up a legal shield to avoid having any relationship at all with equipment manufacturers.

It's not about a rounded square device, it's about a device that's made specifically to resemble Apple's style, etc. All those elements together create a copycat that makes it hard to distinguish from the competing product. Compare this to a competitor done right, as much as I hate to admit it, the Windows phones. They have a distinct style of their own, they don't need to rely on copying someone else's.

Court Order To Remainhttps://twitter.com/?photo_id=1#!/nyclu/status/136449739167240192/photo/1
Justice Lucy Billings issued an order about this.At 6:30AM ET, following a 1am police raid that kicked OWS protesters out of Zuccotti Park, Justice Lucy Billings issued an order effectively allowing protesters back in the park, with their tents, gear, and all. "ThinkProgress just spoke to one of the plantiff’s attorneys, Gideon Orion Oliver, who confirmed that the order was served on Mayor Bloomberg and the other defendants via fax at 7:50AM." During his press conference at 8am, the mayor had claimed he hadn't yet been served, and said that this is why the administration was keeping the park closed. ThinkProgress: "As of this writing, Zuccotti Park remains closed to protesters in direct contradiction of Justice Billing’s order."

Re:It was part of his job
and if its related to your job but done out side of work time they own it too
No... they own copyright to content you produce related to your job, as "work for hire". They don't own assets you create outside of work that you use in a manner related to your job.
For example... if your job entails visiting clients; your company doesn't suddenly own your personal car, when you use it one day to drive to a client's office. If you use your personal e-mail account to contact a prospect that you happen to be friends with, or you provide your e-mail address or personal phone number as contact details for a client, and you wind up signing them up... your company doesn't suddenly own your e-mail account or your home phone number.
They own the work that you provided to them, for example, the sale. They don't own personal property leveraged to do so.
So... they could own the copyright to all the twitter posts, but it's still your account. What they could do is demand you take down all the twitter posts from your account that contain their intellectual property.
Also.... you don't own the Twitter account in the first place, actually, Twitter owns it their ToS says so: All right, title, and interest in and to the Services (excluding Content provided by users) are and will remain the exclusive property of Twitter and its licensors..

Looks like they've already got their own - they're just greedy.
And no, capitalization doesn't mean jack shit.
Also, you're not very well-versed on this subject, so I'll lay it out for you since you seem incapable of doing critical thinking and research.
"In October 2010, Noah Kravitz parted ways with the mobile review site where he served as Editor-in-Chief, contributing written and video content, since April 2006. On June 8, 2011, a case entitled Kravitz vs. PhoneDog and Tom Klein (founder of PhoneDog) was filed (Case#: RG11579535) at the Fremont Hall of Justice, a County of Alameda court. In the lawsuit, Kravitz, the plaintiff, argues that he was a vested partner and owner of PhoneDog and entitled to 15% of the site’s gross advertising revenue, even after he had terminated his employment."
So this whole tit for tat is a litigation soup.
It's purely malicious.
Your reasoning is garbage.
