Re:"up to"
You just keep claiming that, while the iPhone continues to top carrier sales charts even with old models...
Citation needed. I showed you mine, now you show me yours.
If it makes you happy to pretend, it's good that you have found peace of some kind in a world that makes no sense to you.
NOBODY expects the iPhone Inquisition! Our chief weapon is surprise...surprise and fear...fear and surprise.... Our two weapons are fear and surprise...and ruthless efficiency.... Our *three* weapons are fear, surprise, and ruthless efficiency...and an almost fanatical devotion to the iPope.... Our *four*...no... *Amongst* our weapons.... Amongst our weaponry...are such elements as fear, surprise.... (muttering) I'll come in again.

Re:Right...
Didn't people make the same argument against Jews, Blacks, and physically disabled people? I seem to remember them as Nazis. Sunstein is merely a Nazi in sheep clothing.
wow, that was a quick Godwin.

The definition in Urban Dictionary covers it well.

Modswell's Demon
How can you know that downmods are coming from homosexuals? It could be from your observance frame as a mono-sexual that all higher order sexual behaviors appear different but similar in relation to one another and thus appear to be homogenous when they are, in fact, not.

Heh, can't fool me again... I've clicked links like that on slashdot before. At least you didn't try to disguise it.
Just googled it, and it has a meaning, apparently. You live and learn.

Re:Had a bicyclist blow through a red-light today
Having taken several trips across car hoods, I'd say the same rules should apply to automobile drivers.
I spent several years riding my bicycle to and from work, as well as recreational riding and I can say with confidence that drivers are far more reckless than cyclists. There is a reason cyclists call them cagers, they are safely in their cage - oblivious to the fact that they're driving a deadly weapon.
On the other hand, I've seen people riding bicycles (as opposed to cyclists) who are oblivious to the dangers around them - swerving into the street, crossing roads without looking, horsing around....almost asking to get run over.
There are idiots on both sides of the windshield. How about we just say that everyone should act responsibly and follow the safety protocols in place.

Re:I am so embarassed ...Your link is broken. here is the correct one.
Also:Wake up still sleeping together on Skype
How do you wake up still asleep? WTF?
-
Re:I am so embarassed ...
Skype was used by some people for "Skype sleeping" http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=skype%20sleeping .
Some people do have to travel to get a work done. Sometimes for weeks or months.
It will never be the same anymore after there is a suspicion that a third party is watching or recording.
I am not sure about a personal encryption software but there will be definitively a behavioral tectonic shift now as people know for sure that it is watched and recorded. Or at least can be watched and recorded at will by some obscure organizations. -
Re:of course...
whose idea was it to use metal detectors as gun detectors? Time & technology change... and detection methods must change with them.
If non-metallic guns were truly viable, they would have been used 20 years ago to sneak past metal detectors and kill judges and politicians and airplane pilots. Plastic manufacturing has been around for a long time, the only thing 3D printers do is reduce the cost. There are well-funded spy agencies and a few individuals who would have paid hundreds of thousands of dollars for a single gun. And yet none has materialized: [1] [2] [3]

Re:Advertising
Yep, reference number 5.2 under the Urban Dictionary link in the GP post. See #7 at that same link for more info on the number's relationship to Vah Halen.
5. 5150
1. California police code used to denote an escaped criminally insane person.
2. An album that hit in 1986 by Van Halen. It's the first album by the "Van Hagar" lineup. Also, the album's name comes from the studio it (and 1984) were recorded.
1. Positive. This is Sgt. Pepper reporting a pursuit of a 5150. Do you copy?2. This is dialog from a VH concert I went to.
Sammy Hagar: And just does "5150" mean?
Mike Anthony: It means that you're a crazy motherfucker!

Re:Advertising
Used to be fairly well known as being both a Police Code for someone needing to be put on a psychiatric hold/person behaving in insane/crazy/unhinged manner and being a potential danger to themselves or others (originating in California) as well as the original IBM PC model number.

Not for those wages.
Microsoft can't get qualified people here in the States and the H1-B limits are inhibiting growth.
Microsoft can't get qualified people willing to work for sub-par wages here in the States.
H1-B limits are explicitly in place to prevent the dilution of the skilled labor market. We have the people, but they want paid a fair wage. MS and the like want the labor but don't want to pay for it when they can get it from India for cheaper. BUT Indian quality is shit, so they want to bring them here, hire them, drive the "prevailing wage" down a percentage point at a time, and then when the prevailing wage is sufficiently low in a few years they'll be able to hire low cost high skilled American labor.
It's basically the same concept as negging a girl into dating you.

Re:Scooped?
I know Slashdot is a US centric site but please remember that there are many non-native-US-English speakers reading it as well.
There's a website for that problem. And just so we're clear; There's a lot of lingo us Americans don't understand. Calling gas "petrol", for example, or a semitruck a "lorry". Seems just a bit hinky, if you ask me. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to shove off and go do the needful somewhere.

Re:I am SO conflicted...
Haven't you heard? Fag has been redefined.
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=fag
1. An extremely annoying, inconsiderate person most commonly associated with Harley riders.
2. A person who owns or frequently rides a Harley.
" Look at that fag riding that Harley."
"Why are these fags always so loud." -

Free speach
Cyberbunker are trying to paint themselves as proponents of free speach (sic) and through some magic PR they've got Anon worked up into a frenzy. But I don't really equate being able to blast out pharma spam and hosting malware as a freedom that I cherish. Blocking traffic to and from 84.22.96.0/19 is pretty effective IMO.

Re:Why?
but this is a "left a Euro on the sidewalk" type deal here...
It is not even that, since someone would have to lose a Euro for someone else to find it, and nobody "lost" anything. This is more like someone walking down the street and recording your house number. This is a classic case of manufactured outrage.

Re:Oh Canada...
You just seem more insane year after year. I wonder if there will be a day when Canadians gripe that they're on the verge of moving to the U.S.
Ok, but this is Newfoundland.
For the benefit of non-Canadians, Newfoundlanders are often made fun of for being dim-witted, slow & stupid. Colloquially they are called Newfies.

Re:Personalization? This is an upgrade?
Personalization is currently under the "settings" charm in Windows 8. If you're on the desktop, Personalization (as in desktop theme) is right there in the charm menu. If you're in Metro, then it's the first item under "Change PC settings" (as in, "Personalize" is the first damned thing you see when you launch it). The only thing they did, if anything, was change the label in the charm to be dumbed down for the casual user who couldn't find Personalize without having it spelled out for them. Probably a result of their usage studies.
Luckily, you only said "charm" 3 times. Once more and I would have insisted that you kill yourself. Please don't drink the MS vocabulary Kool-Aid lest you start squirting your mp3 files to others...
